The Crossing Guard position is a temporary position, approximately five hours per day, two (2) hours in the morning and three (2) hours in the afternoon, Monday through Friday. Crossing Guards work a school year (September through June). Applicants must be able to work outdoors, have reliable transportation or ability to report to assignment consistently.

Hiring Incentive Pilot Program:
- Candidates hired as a Public Safety Radio Dispatcher-TRAINEE on or after February 9, 2020, shall be eligible to receive a non-pensionable lump sum payment of $2,000.
- Once the Public Safety Radio Dispatcher-TRAINEE is eligible for promotion and enters into the Public Safety Radio Dispatcher classification, the employee is then eligible to receive an additional non-pensionable lump sum payment of $2,000.
Under direct supervision, the Police Officer Trainee attends a Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) approved Police Basic Recruit Academy and successfully completes the academic and physical training required for appointment to the classification of Police Officer Recruit II. Police Officer Trainees are considered at-will employees. Police officer probationary status begins when the trainee is sworn in as a Police Officer Recruit II after completion of the police academy.
The City of Sunnyvale invites applications for Public Safety Dispatcher in Training. Under supervision and in a trainee capacity, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire-fighting, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and, performs other related duties as assigned.
