The City of Orinda Planning Department seeks a strong customer-service oriented Planning Technician to primarily staff the Planning Counter and process code-enforcement cases.  Depending on experience, the successful candidate may also gain opportunities to assist with various current and long-range planning tasks.  This non-exempt position reports to the Director of Planning.

Receive, track/monitor and investigate public staff municipal codes and ordinances, standards, health and safety and other complaints.
• Conduct review of discretionary planning applications for design review, exceptions, tree removal, and other related requests.
• Serve as the City’s staff liaison to various groups (i.e., Orinda Historical Society)
  Basic mathematical principles.

The Aging and Adult Services Division of San Mateo County Health is seeking a Deputy Public Guardian Conservatorship Investigator III (DPG). The position is on the Probate Conservatorship Investigation team and is the intake section of the San Mateo County Public Guardian program.

 

The team receives referrals from all sources, for individuals who are no longer able to make decisions for themselves due to a disabling condition other than mental health. The probate conservatorship investigators conduct a very involved inquiry into the individual's past and present life to prove to the court that there are no other alternatives to conservatorship that will allow the individual to continue to live independently in the community. Conservatorship is a very invasive process as it removes most of an individual's rights. Therefore, it is as a last resort that a petition for conservatorship is filed with the Superior Court.

 

The current vacancy is in the Aging and Adult Services Division located in San Mateo, but will drive to visit clients at various locations, attend meetings, and perform various duties of the position. This person will report to the Supervising Deputy Public Guardian of Aging and Adult Services.

DPG's have responsibility for managing estates and providing casework services. They administer complex property and litigation cases, prepare complex court reports and testify in Court as needed and may develop comprehensive care plans. DPG III's also provide lead direction and training to other deputies, serve as liaisons with specific County and State department and community agencies, handle those cases that present the greatest liability to the client and/or the County, and may provide 24-hour emergency response services.

THE POSITION

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City park and recreation sites as needed. Water, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Works as a member of the City pest control crew spraying various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, conduits, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves.  Work cooperatively with others. Work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

The Department

This entry-level classification will perform maintenance and labor tasks in support of habitat management and restoration activities under the Sign Hill Habitat Restoration Project. Work may be performed independently or as a member of a crew. Depending upon assignment, work is performed under close to general supervision. Work is reviewed while in progress and by the results achieved. Incumbents may provide limited work direction to temporary or volunteer workers.

Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced and motivated Field Resource Specialist who will plan, organize, manage, oversee, and participate in the implementation of vegetation management, fuel reduction, and natural resource protection and restoration projects on Midpen lands. The Field Resource Specialist participates in long-term and short-term project planning, grant application and administration, coordinates assigned activities with other Midpen departments and outside agencies. This position will supervise staff and will direct consultants, contractors, and volunteers to assist in completing this work. Supervisory and administrative tasks will include budgeting, project management, setting priorities, and providing guidance to multi-disciplinary teams. About the Position:   The Field Resource Specialist is an exempt/salaried position, which is responsible for administering the principles and practices of public land management including: open space or undeveloped park maintenance, resource management including resource protection, managing budgets, prioritizing work tasks, and responding to public; stakeholder agencies; and other department inquiries. The Field Resource Specialist directs the day-to-day implementation of fuel reduction and vegetation management goals of Midpen’s Wildland Fire Resiliency Program. Details:

• Regular full-time position, alternative 9/80 work schedule with alternating Monday or Friday off
• Salary range $35.83 to $45.86 hourly with an Excellent Benefits Package (see below) 

 

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, geography, public administration, environmental science or a related field.

Experience: One year of planning experience is desirable.
