DEFINITION:

To assist in implementing, coordinating, and evaluating recreation and programs and events, including but not limited to Teen Programs, Youth Programs, After School Programs, Aquatic Programs and events, promotional events, special events and excursions.

• Experience scheduling, organizing, assigns, and monitors program volunteers.
• Is able to creates publications and flyers using Microsoft Office or web-based solutions like Canva.
• Is familiar and able to creates promotional materials, including press releases and social media posts.
• Experience in planning, coordinating, and directing events, programs, and activities.
• Able to work with others and create relationships with partner non-profit organization.
• Experience collecting data and creating reports from all senior programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Implement, coordinate, and evaluate recreation programs, aquatics programs, special recreation events and services; publicize programs, events and services. Train, schedule and assign program staff and volunteers; assist in the development of staff evaluations. Assist with coordination and scheduling of the recreation or aquatics programs.  Promote and maintain safety in the work place. Maintain records and statistical data on programs. Issue, secure and maintain program equipment and supplies.  Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that Employee must be present to work to complete assigned tasks.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Enforce all rules and regulations. Teach aquatic programs as assigned. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

Community resources adaptable to the development of community services programs for specified recreation programs.  Principles of program coordination, training and evaluations.  Emergency procedures, First Aid and CPR.  Safety principles, practices and procedures.

Skill to:

Apply First Aid methods and safety precautions related to assigned programs.  Develop and maintain support for programs from the community and local organizations.  Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.  Oversee train and evaluate assigned staff.  Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of the required duties.  Operate office equipment, including a personal computer.

Ability to:

Develop cooperative public relations with the general public.  Remain calm in stressful situations.  Be consistent when enforcing rules and regulations.  Maintain authority and control over programs.

Minimum Education and Experience:

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent.  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation or a related field is preferred.

Experience:

Two (2) year of increasing responsible experience in the delivery of recreation services. A Bachelor’s Degree may be substituted for one year of experience.

License or Certificates:

When only assigned to recreation duties, the following is required and must be maintained during the course of employment.

• Required upon hire:
  •  Valid California Driver’s license,
• Required within six months of hire,
  • Possession and maintenance of a current American Red Cross First Aid Certificate or equivalent and
  • Current American Red Cross Community CPR Certificate or equivalent

The pay cycle is biweekly.  With the exception of worker's compensation coverage and sick leave, no other benefits compensations are provided.  Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.

Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

Water Safety Instructor

Position Details:

Under general supervision of Recreation Services Supervisor, the Water Safety Instructor provides direction to Swim Instructor/Lifeguard staff at an assigned facility and ensures that the City of San Bruno guidelines, safety policies and procedures are being followed. The Water Safety Instructor ensures a safe and clean environment for customers, implements preventative Lifeguarding procedures, while monitoring programs. In emergencies, they must determine proper action and direct staff.  This position may be responsible for opening and closing buildings, managing swimming pool patrons and activities, monitoring facility use including facility and guest safety during rentals, setting up tables and chairs for rentals, City programs and events, performing light janitorial and custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of facilities, and performing other duties as required.

Examples of Duties for these positions may include:

• Staff lead for issues related to programs and customers
• Overseeing operation of swimming pools or “dry” activities and rentals
• Opening and/or closing facility
• Monitoring facility for safety, cleanliness and appropriate use
• Checking daily facility schedule and/or rental setup diagrams
• Set up and break down the facility for rentals and events

• Cleaning, sanitizing, and organizing assigned program area
• Greeting patrons and answering phone calls

Water Safety Instructor Duties and qualifications:

• Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources
• Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long term plans
• Supervises classes and co-sponsored programs
• Actively scan the pool, deck and locker rooms for safety and potential hazards and address the situation properly to remedy it
• Recognize and respond to emergencies in accordance with the facility emergency action plan
• Know and enforce all facility rules, policies, and procedures while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons
• Perform daily inspections or equipment and facility; correct and/or report any and all unsafe conditions to supervisor
• Teach swim lessons and aquatic classes to a variety of skill and age levels; evaluate participants according to program outlines and goals
• Lifeguard Instructor certification required
• Must test negative for Tuberculosis within the past 2 years
•  Must be patient and courteous with all members of the public
• Be dependable and punctual
• Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
• Ability to withstand exposure to the elements outdoors and in enclosed spaces

Working Conditions:

Work is assigned at both indoor and outdoor facilities, and may include exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals, and some noise. The successful candidate must be able to work variable hours, including mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends.

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. Program Coordinators may be asked to provide recreation leadership, supervision, and assistance in various recreation programs, including day camp, youth and adult sports, special events and outdoor spaces.

This position is well-suited for applicants with experience as a Recreation Leader or Youth Leader, can work independently, and effectively lead staff members.

Being a Program Coordinator can include working shifts that are scheduled during early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays all year around.  This is a position that is considered temporary/part-time and employees are limited to no more than 980 hours per fiscal year.

Under general supervision, plans, organizes, coordinates, develops, implements, promotes and evaluates assigned program areas and provides lead direction to lower-level staff and volunteers.

ABOUT THE POSITION

This Recruitment is for Returning Moraga Day Camp staff. The returning Recreation Leader I and II position has previous experience working for Moraga Day Camp and is responsible for providing high-level programs and services through the Parks and Recreation Department which provide concrete, positive experiences for youth and which promote qualities that are essential to raising successful young people.

Position Details:

Under general supervision, this position is assigned to perform a variety of duties to support the users of various indoor and outdoor City facilities and programs. The Recreation Specialist will oversee programs and rental activities. This includes opening and closing buildings, managing swimming pool patrons and activities, monitoring facility use including facility and guest safety during rentals, setting up tables and chairs for rentals, City programs and events, performing light janitorial and custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of facilities, and performing other duties as required. • Actively scan the pool, deck and locker rooms for safety and potential hazards and address the situation properly to remedy it
• Recognize and respond to emergencies in accordance with the facility emergency action plan
• Know and enforce all facility rules, policies, and procedures while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons
• Perform daily inspections or equipment and facility; correct and/or report any and all unsafe conditions to supervisor
• Teach swim lessons and aquatic classes to a variety of skill and age levels; evaluate participants according to program outlines and goals
• Lifeguard Instructor certification required
• Must test negative for Tuberculosis within the past 2 years
•  Must be patient and courteous with all members of the public
• Be dependable and punctual
• Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
• Ability to withstand exposure to the elements outdoors and in enclosed spaces
• Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

Work is assigned at both indoor and outdoor facilities, and may include exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals, and some noise. The successful candidate must be able to work variable hours, including mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends.
