The City of Cupertino Recreation and Community Services Department has openings for the following positions: Building Attendant for Neighborhood Special Events.

Position: Building Attendant

Hours per week: 15 to 20 (approximate)

Salary Range: $14.00 - $16.00

(Part-Time Temporary Non-Benefited Position, work hours are limited to no more than 995 hours per fiscal year)

Definition

The City of Cupertino is looking for self-motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable individuals to work as Building Attendants. This position is assigned primarily to the neighborhood special events program taking place in the parks, and may occasionally staff other City of Cupertino facilities and/or special events. Under limited supervision, the Building Attendant is responsible for setting-up/taking down equipment at venues for programs and events, opening and closing buildings, assisting staff in operating audio-visual equipment, monitoring park usage for compliance with rules and rental parameters, greeting customers, and completing pre-event and post-event inspections and paperwork. May perform additional duties as assigned. The schedule may vary from week to week, based on programs. 

Typical Job Functions

Prepare, open, and close facilities for reservations, programs, special events, and public use.

Arrange furniture and equipment for events and ensure set-up is correct.

Set-up audio/visual equipment.

Remove trash in and around buildings.

Guard against abuse to all City building and park facilities.

Perform related work as required.

Qualifications

Education:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. College level courses in environmental education, recreation, or related fields are desirable. 

Licenses and Certifications:

Must have, or have the ability to get, a Class C California driver’s license.

Must be CPR and First Aid certified within the first six months of employment. CPR and First Aid certification is offered during In-Service Training. 

Physical Requirements:
Must be able to perform physical activities that require substantial use of body, arms, and/or legs. On a continuous basis, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, and reach. Lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less.

Peace Officer Standards: This position requires the incumbent meet the standards for being a Peace Officer as outlined in Government Code Section 1031. This includes successful completion of a PC 832 training or Basic Police Academy within the last three years, unless the applicant is currently working as a California Peace Officer.

Basic Job Requirements: Must have the ability to lead and direct staff; write and present information effectively in English; work cooperatively with others with tact and diplomacy; plan and manage a budget for the assigned area; enforce pertinent laws and regulations; administer first aid and CPR; operate emergency patrol vehicles and two-way radios; perform wild land fire suppression duties as needed.

Licenses and Certifications Needed: A valid California driver license; valid professional rescuer CPR certificate and Medical First Responder or equivalent; or, the ability to obtain required certificates prior to completion of the employment probationary period; Incident Command System (ICS) courses as specified by NIMS; District approved Fire Suppression Training Certification.

Education & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in park management, law enforcement, natural resource management, natural sciences or related field is preferred; five years of increasingly responsible experience in the protection, operation, or maintenance of a park, forest, public recreation area, or the provision of emergency services is required with two years of supervisory, management, or administrative experience.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a combination of indoor and outdoor environments.  Outdoor work includes exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to travel on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform all related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on District lands. Work times may include evening, weekend and holiday hours.

THE POSITION

The Facility Attendant will greet visitors to the Joan Pisani Community Center and serve as the first point of contact during evening and weekend activities and rentals. The ideal candidate should enjoy working with people and have an interest in serving the public.

The position will typically work on two or three weekday evenings (Mon.-Fri.), approximately 5:00-9:30 pm, two Saturdays each month (approximately 6 hours, daytime or evening), and two Sundays (daytime or evening); Specific work schedule to be determined, and may be variable based on the weekly recreation program schedule. A typical schedule will be about 15 hours per week.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide friendly and professional customer service by means of greeting Community Center users, serving as main point of contact during activities and events, and maintaining a consistent presence for users at all times.
• Explain and follow City and department policies and procedures.
• May assist user group with indoor or outdoor event set up and take down of equipment and/or furniture such as tables, chairs, podiums, and A/V equipment.
• Locks and unlocks facility doors; secures buildings.
• Updates attendance sheets, tally sheets and user status sheets.
• May perform clean up duties as needed, including but not limited to: move and arrange furniture and equipment, restroom cleaning, sweeping and mopping, and garbage pick-up and removal.

The City of Burlingame invites qualified applicants to apply as a Casual Part-Time Temporary Laborer. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a similar position. 

As a Laborer you will work under the close supervision of a Leadworker and the division Supervisor, performing a variety of routine, heavy labor and manual tasks.  Tasks often require considerable physical strength and stamina and may be performed in inclement and/or potentially hazardous conditions.  You will learn to perform the more skilled tasks of the assigned division and operate motorized equipment in a training capacity.

• Assist with repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures; plunge toilets and use power augers

• Sweep and clean roadsides, gutters, curbs, culverts, catch basins and other drainage structures

• Assist in raking, smoothing and tamping repaired asphalt patches
• Assist in the layout of traffic patterns on streets and in the operation of painting equipment

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of: Use and purpose of designated hand tools employed in basic laboring work; safety precautions and practices; basic arithmetic and sufficient English to follow instructions and learn to write work reports.

Ability to: Learn safety practices necessary in working on public thoroughfares; learn geography of the City; learn to perform semi-skilled and skilled duties in the assigned division; comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and safety warnings and information. 

Skills: Ability to safely and efficiently use hand tools, air tools, hydraulic tools, jackhammers, and power and automotive technical equipment in a training capacity.

License

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, with an acceptable driving record, issued by the DMV, 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions

Ability to perform heavy manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects for short distances weighing up to 90 pounds, perform pulling, pushing, twisting and bending needed for assisting in building/facility operation and maintenance, and water/wastewater delivery system operation and maintenance; work outdoors in adverse weather; perform pick and shovel work in digging, widening and backfilling; assist in the cleaning of sewers which includes working in raw sewage.

Ability to stand and walk for considerable periods of time; twist the upper body; perform moderate amounts of crouching, stooping and squatting. Ability to climb ladders and to climb into confined spaces; to work weekends and evenings as necessary, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Sufficient vision, hearing and stamina to perform the above job duties, and use of proper safety and hearing equipment when using noisy and dangerous equipment.

Education

Education which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance typically illustrated by a High School Diploma or GED.

Experience

A minimum of one year of responsible maintenance, construction or similar work is highly desirable.

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of Parks and Open Space Equipment Operator in the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department.  The normal work schedule may include evenings and weekends.  Candidates hired will work one of two schedules:  Seasonal employees are limited to a maximum of 1,000 hours over a 5 month seasonal period.  1,000 Hour employees are limited to 25 hours per week for a maximum of 1,000 hours per fiscal year.

DEFINITION

To perform a variety of duties related to maintaining the City’s natural resources, facilities, and property.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, dump trucks and aerial lifts; operate golf cart type vehicle, mower or other machinery.
• Note and correct safety hazards; refer difficult problems/hazards for more advanced attention and recommend possible solutions.

• Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver’s license by date of application. 
• Possession of CPR and First Aid certificates within six (6) months of hire.

Necessary Special Requirement 

• Must be 18 years of age or older.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the temporary and part-time position of Tree Trimmer in the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department. The work schedule will vary and may include evenings and weekends. This position is limited to 1,500 hours per fiscal year.

To perform semi- skilled and skilled duties in the trimming, maintenance, and planting of City trees.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This class is distinguished from the Senior Tree Trimmer in that the latter performs advanced level work and provides technical and functional supervision to assigned staff.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from an assigned supervisor and receives technical and functional supervision from the Senior Tree Trimmer.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Using aerial lift and through skilled climbing, trim and prune trees to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs and lights as well as to ensure the continued health of the trees.
• Perform ground trimming using pole saws and hydraulic loppers; remove fallen trees, stumps, fallen limbs and related debris; perform stump grinding duties.
• Plant, spray, stake and maintain trees on City owned property and in the public right-of–way.
• Operate tree trimming and maintenance equipment such as boom trucks, chippers, stump grinder, dump trucks, and power tools, such as chain saws and hydraulic loppers.
• Inspect open space for hazards; respond to requests and inquiries from the general public.
• Identify equipment needs for each assigned project.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to work performed.
• Work multiple shifts during emergencies, seasonally caused circumstances, or special projects in varying climate and temperature conditions.
• Perform general park maintenance work when not assigned to tree trimming duties.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Safe work practices.
• Methods and techniques used in tree trimming and maintenance.
• ISA standards for tree planting and pruning.
• Uses and purposes of tools and equipment related to tree trimming and maintenance.

Ability to:

• Perform skilled tree trimming and maintenance work; climb trees at heights necessary to perform trimming activities.
• On a continuous basis, know and understand tree trimming and removal operations; observe safety rules.
• Intermittently, sit at a desk while studying or preparing reports; twist to reach equipment or materials; stand, walk, balance, stoop, kneel, climb, crawl, and bend while performing tree trimming and removal duties; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less.

The City of Yuba City is seeking one (1) motivated individual for the position of Groundskeeper. This is a full-time position within the Parks Department. Under immediate supervision, Groundskeepers perform manual work in the maintenance and upkeep of park facilities and landscaped grounds. Duties include, but are not limited to, planting, watering, mowing, weeding, raking, operating power equipment, and cleaning restroom facilities. The ideal candidate will have knowledge in landscape maintenance materials, equipment and tools, and safe use and maintenance of hand and power equipment.  A positive attitude, outstanding interpersonal skills, and a high degree of respect for a safe work environment are must have traits for this position.

 The City of Winters seeking Community Center/Facility Attendants to assist the public with rental and us of its Community Center and other City facilities.  These facilities will provide space for banquets, receptions and community meetings.  Must be able to work evenings and weekends.

The specific work schedule(s) of a Community Center/Facility Attendant may vary based on the needs of the City.  These positions will be flexibly scheduled as needed.  Part-Time employees are limited to working no more than 1,000 hours each fiscal Year.
