The Big Lift, a collective impact initiative that seeks to increase kindergarten readiness and improve third grade reading proficiency in San Mateo County, is recruiting to fill one Intern Fellow II vacancy.
 
The County of San Mateo’s Human Services Agency serves as the initiatives “Backbone Agency”. The Intern Fellow II position will support the evolving/increasing role of the Backbone Agency including but not limited to supporting the implementation, administration, facilitation of three on-going advisory councils and two working groups as well as the planning and facilitation of two annual Collective Impact Convenings and two annual Knowledge Network Convenings.

 

Specifics of assignment is dependent upon the department or division assigned to and level of internship. Some example duties include:

• Research, write, and present reports and recommendations on a variety of topics.

• Collect, compile, describe, organize, analyze, interpret, and present data and information related to area and issues under study.
• Perform a variety of clerical or technical tasks in support of department assigned to: including answering phones and assisting the public, proofreading, filing, collating materials, and maintaining a variety of records.

Role description

Under direction, the Custodian performs routine manual cleaning tasks in public buildings, schools, other facilities, and surrounding areas. 

Examples of essential duties include but not limited to the following:

• Sweeps, scrubs, mops, spots and waxes floors; vacuums and cleans rugs and carpets.
• Cleans, dusts and polishes cabinets, furniture and woodwork; empties and cleans waste receptacles and ashtrays.
• Cleans stairways and hallways; cleans and disinfects restrooms and replenishes supplies; may perform minor duties in unplugging sinks and toilets; cleans offices and lobbies; cleans ceilings, walls, window shades, light fixtures and venetian blinds.
• Assists in moving and arranging furniture and equipment.
• Turns out lights and locks doors and windows.
• Operates scrubbers, buffers, waxers and related electrical appliances and equipment; may tend simple, low pressure heating and ventilating systems; may check water levels in gauges and periodically perform routine servicing to boilers and pumps.
• In recreational areas, cleans auditoriums, gymnasiums, club houses and locker rooms; picks up papers and rubbish in play areas; hangs flags and decorations; reports evidences of vandalism, broken plumbing, windows, doors, locks, etc.
• May wash interior glass partitions and interior and exterior windows which can be easily reached from floor or ground level.
• As school custodian, may supervise and maintain order among students during recess periods; distributes milk or other refreshments to students; performs minor duties in repairing  chairs, desks and toys.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The Community  Action Program Specialist determines client’s needs for program services and provides case management and/or crisis intervention in one or more various program areas. The Community Action Program Specialist II is the full journey level class within the series and is   distinguished from the entry level class by the performance of the full range of duties, including the more complex cases. This position is full-time and is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Analyzes clients’ financial and eligibility information to determine initial or continuing eligibility for programs.
• Secures case documentation, records, and/or other information from other agencies as required.
• Interview and evaluates clients for specific program services eligibility and/or employment opportunities, including service needs assessment and crisis intervention, to assist individuals/families in achieving self-sufficiency. 
• Conducts orientation workshops for new and returning participants; explains regulations, rules and policies to clients and apprises them of their rights and responsibilities for program participation.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Housing Specialist I to join the Housing Division in the Community Development Department. Under general direction, the Deputy District Attorney I/II/III performs legal work in the enforcement of laws; prosecutes criminal cases as assigned by the District Attorney; advises the general public and law enforcement officers on criminal matters; and does related work as required. The position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

JOB DUTIES

• Prepare legal briefs for motions and appeals; prepares affidavits for search and arrest warrants; prepares trial briefs, checks questions of law.
• Provides legal and investigative analysis to police agencies; prepares briefs or opinions concerning law as applied to the jurisdiction of the District Attorney.
• Anticipates legal reasoning of defense attorneys and drafts jury instructions; presents opening statements, interrogates, and cross examines witnesses, argues points of law and makes final arguments or summations.
• Issues subpoenas; attends court pretrial conferences outside of court; represents the court in criminal calendar proceedings, including the scheduling of cases, pleas, negotiations, probation revocation hearings, motions, and sentencings.

 

THE POSITION

To perform a variety of skilled and semiskilled horticulture tasks in the construction, maintenance and repair of parks, pools, recreation, and cemetery facilities and buildings.  The purpose of this recruitment is to hire multiple temporary/part-time positions.  Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Park Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

Temporary/part-time employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per fiscal year.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Performing general grounds cleaning, including emptying trash receptacles, mopping, sweeping, and raking City park and recreation sites as needed. Water, mow, cultivate, prune, weed, renovate, and fertilize grass, plants, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Operate power mowers, chain saws, rototillers, aerators, hedgers, spreaders, front-end loader, edgers, air compressors, and other equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work. Drive vehicles and equipment as required. Prepare and maintain athletic fields and related facilities, swimming pools, and cemetery/interment operations.  Regular and consistent attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Install, maintain and replace playground equipment and fences; assemble tables, benches and bleachers. Works as a member of the City pest control crew spraying various fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other related chemicals in City park and recreation areas. Respond to inquiries from the general public. Install, maintain and repair irrigation systems. Assist in setting up community services and special events. Maintain, repair and replace plumbing systems and fixtures such as light switches, motors, wall receptacles, conduits, faucets, drinking fountains, water heaters, water closet, urinals, water regulators and pressure valves.  Work cooperatively with others. Work any shift including weekends and holidays. Perform related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Park Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  Six (6) months of experience in the care and maintenance of landscapes or facilities.

License and Certificate:  Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Position 

Under direct supervision of the Natural Resources Specialist and general supervision of the Parks Supervisor and/or Parks Program Manager, the Natural Resources Aide performs a variety of tasks and maintenance activities, including the removal of invasive plants, installation of native plants, trail repair, erosion control, and other related duties as assigned.

This entry-level classification will perform maintenance and labor tasks in support of habitat management and restoration activities under the Sign Hill Habitat Restoration Project. Work may be performed independently or as a member of a crew. Depending upon assignment, work is performed under close to general supervision. Work is reviewed while in progress and by the results achieved. Incumbents may provide limited work direction to temporary or volunteer workers.

Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has an excellent career opportunity for an experienced and motivated Field Resource Specialist who will plan, organize, manage, oversee, and participate in the implementation of vegetation management, fuel reduction, and natural resource protection and restoration projects on Midpen lands. The Field Resource Specialist participates in long-term and short-term project planning, grant application and administration, coordinates assigned activities with other Midpen departments and outside agencies. This position will supervise staff and will direct consultants, contractors, and volunteers to assist in completing this work. Supervisory and administrative tasks will include budgeting, project management, setting priorities, and providing guidance to multi-disciplinary teams. • Field Resource Specialist will report to the Foothills Field Office (FFO) in the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve in Cupertino, CA, to the Foothills Area Manager.

About the Position:   The Field Resource Specialist is an exempt/salaried position, which is responsible for administering the principles and practices of public land management including: open space or undeveloped park maintenance, resource management including resource protection, managing budgets, prioritizing work tasks, and responding to public; stakeholder agencies; and other department inquiries. The Field Resource Specialist directs the day-to-day implementation of fuel reduction and vegetation management goals of Midpen’s Wildland Fire Resiliency Program. The Field Resource Specialist will support Midpen’s utilization of contractors and act as a point of contact for a wide variety of vegetation maintenance and management tasks. The successful performance of this work will require a working knowledge of a broad range of resource management trades and technical principles, as well as a professional background and the ability to coordinate work with other Midpen departments.  Candidates with background in fire risk prevention activities and vegetation management trades are desirable. THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Program Coordinator in the Recreation Division of our Library and Recreation Department.  This position is responsible for overseeing operations of the Terra Linda Community Pool, including hiring, training, scheduling of temp/seasonal lifeguards, swim instructors, cashiers for approximately 100 employees, for a 9-month pool season.  The Program Coordinator will develop, implement, and oversee programing for the pool and be responsible for developing the pool schedule.  An understanding of safety, customer service, managing relationships with user groups, problem solving, and leadership skills are important for this program area.  Although an aquatics background is preferred, it is not required at time of hire.  The Program Coordinator will also support the Terra Linda Community Center with program development, special events, rentals, customer service, marketing and other tasks as assigned.

• Provides direction to and supervises regular, temporary and volunteer staff, including selecting, monitoring, training, scheduling and determining workloads; assists with hiring, disciplinary and evaluation processes.

• Books facility rentals for customers; attends to facility users needs, including permits and equipment; prints weekly event schedule and ensures that all setups are done, manages facility budget, including maintenance and supplies.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of/ability to:

• Good customer service techniques.
• Principles and techniques of directing group, social and recreational activities.
• Principles and practices of managing recreational programs for community parks, community centers, youth and senior centers, aquatic centers and/or athletic facilities.
• Recreation site management, including operations and maintenance.
• Techniques of effective supervision.
• Financial record keeping practices as applied to recreation programs.
• Coordinating and scheduling the work of temporary and volunteer staff.
• Coordinating and scheduling programs, events and activities.
• Inventorying and ordering supplies, equipment and materials.
• Interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures.
• Maintaining files and monitoring and tracking fees and payments.
• Developing interpersonal relationships with a variety of users and sponsors.
• Using computers and related software.
• Communication to interact effectively with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, volunteers and the general public sufficient to convey information and to receive work direction.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (or obtain within 4 months of hire).
• Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (or obtain within 1 year from time of hire).
• Must have American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (or obtain within 1 year from time of hire).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in recreation administration, physical education, leisure services or a related field AND
• Two (2) years of full-time or its equivalent of recreation experience, OR
• An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job as listed above.
