GIS Intern projects for 2026 include:

• Conducting research on easements and reference maps using:
  • San Mateo County’s Property Maps Portal
  • Paper files in the Planning Department
  • Existing folders on the shared drive
  • Microfiche records at the San Mateo County Assessor’s Recorder’s Office
• Maintaining a tracking log documenting:
  • Properties researched
  • Easements found and mapped
  • Easements referenced but not located
• Using ArcGIS Pro to map discovered easements

The City of Brisbane's Public Works Department will be sponsoring two summer internships this year. Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector.  You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

Projects for 2026 include:

• Public Works (Engineering & Operations Support) – Provide support to the City’s Public Works Department across engineering, development review, and capital project delivery. Primary assignment will focus on documenting and improving development review processes, including application completeness and interdepartmental coordination. Secondary assignments may include assisting with capital improvement program tracking, permit review analysis, and evaluation of asset management systems to support more efficient service delivery.

• Public Works (Utilities) – Provide support to the City's Public Works Department - Utilities Division with various engineering projects in drinking water distribution, water resources, sanitary sewer collection, and storm drainage. Primary assignment will focus on mapping and geolocating drinking water facilities to comply with new state regulatory compliance.  Secondary assignments may include field engineering support on construction of capital utility projects and assisting with various engineering reports and studies.

The City of Brisbane will be sponsoring a History internship with the City Manager's Office. Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector. You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

The History Intern will work closely with staff in the City Manager’s Office to help preserve and protect the City’s History Collection, ensuring materials are properly safeguarded and prepared in the event of a disaster. This role includes digitizing and photographing historical items, accurately cataloging them in the City’s archival system, and supporting ongoing records management efforts. The intern will also collaborate with the City Council History Subcommittee to research, plan, and develop future exhibits for the Library’s History Room, helping make the City’s rich history accessible and engaging for the community.

The City of Brisbane will be sponsoring a City Clerk internship this year. Our internships are project-oriented and designed to give college students a good general overview of future employment opportunities and current issues in the Public Sector. You will have the opportunity for exposure to various areas of City Administration during your internship and to network with fellow interns and participate in professional development activities in San Mateo County and/or Santa Clara County.

City Clerk Intern project for 2026:

• Records Management – Assist in project oversight of our records management project, create innovative best practices to implement the records retention schedule and policy, and support the daily records management tasks in the City Clerk’s Office

YOUTH TASK FORCE COLLEGE SUMMER INTERNSHIP

Gilroy Police Department

20 – 25 hours per week 

Bachelor’s Intern - $16.90 – $18.84 per hour

Master’s Intern - $19.56 – $21.74 per hour

ABOUT THE POSITION

Are you a college student with a passion for making a difference in your community? Are you interested in a future career in law enforcement, public service, or community outreach? The City of Gilroy is seeking a college level Youth Task Force (YTF) Summer College Intern to work in the Gilroy Police Department Violence Prevention Unit. This is a unique opportunity to gain real-world experience, develop leadership skills and work alongside dedicated professionals who are committed to community safety and engagement. The Intern will participate and work with an experienced team and gain skills and knowledge in planning, organizing, and coordinating various youth and community projects, programs, events and tasks related to violence and gang prevention efforts. 

In this exciting opportunity, the YTF Intern will work under the direction of the Youth Task Force Coordinator, and will help carry out community events, participate in community organizing, community forums, community surveying, support engagement projects, and will help lead recreational and outreach programs at San Ysidro Park. The internship is a balance of office/administrative work and hands-on work in the field.

This internship has potential to be extended to the Fall semester.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Gilroy Police Department is seeking a motivated and community-minded undergraduate Police Administration Intern interested in gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic law enforcement environment. This internship offers the opportunity to work alongside sworn officers and professional staff while supporting public safety initiatives that benefit the Gilroy community.

The intern will assist multiple divisions within the department by providing clerical and administrative support related to crime analysis, youth task force and gang prevention initiatives, public safety communications, and community outreach programs. This Internship is offered as part of a Regional Internship Partnership to introduce and encourage current students and new graduates to local municipal governments. Job Description:  

The intern will work in the Public Works/Engineering Department and will be assisting engineering project managers with general clerical, administrative, field work, and technical tasks for public works projects.  Tasks may include electronic document filing, checking mathematical calculations, creating spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel, preparing presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint, entering data and creating reports in various software applications, performing field data collection or investigation, construction management, internet research, creating map displays using Auto CAD, Google Maps/Earth, compiling and organizing data or documents.  The intern may also assist in other areas such as internal and external Department communication and public outreach.

Qualifications:

• Ability to learn new information quickly
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong research and analytical skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and web-based resources
• Ability to prioritize assignments and utilize good organizational skills
• Exhibit a positive attitude and flexibility in accepting assignments
• Have an interest in working in public sector engineering and construction management
• CADD experience is desirable

• Support the Building Division by developing permit examples for website 
• Assist Fire Prevention with entering firework code cases and processing booth permits
• Research and collect data for Public Records Act (PRA) requests
