The Kitchen Aide receives general supervision from the Community Programs Manager, and technical and functional direction from the Nutrition Site Supervisor. The Kitchen Aide exercises no direct supervision over staff. In the absence of the Nutrition Site Supervisor, the Kitchen Aide may provide technical and functional direction over and provide training to other staff.

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 5-14 years of age) in beginning to intermediate tennis camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of tennis, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

Schedule: Camp will run from June 8th through June 18th.

Group A (5-7yrs) 9:00AM to 9:45AM

Group B (8-10yrs) 10AM to 10:45AM

Group C (11yrs+) 11AM to 11:45AM

Location: LOHS Tennis Courts  

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

• To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in sports programs.
• Provides encouragement to participants and provides a positive atmosphere for play.
• Supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities. 
• Implement lesson plans to be provided by the City.
• Maintains rosters and City forms.
• Advises participants on game and facility procedures and policies, as appropriate.
• Develop and lead daily tennis specific drill and game components.
• Reports accidents and prepares accident reports as required.
• Communicate effectively with children, other coaches/referees, parents, and community members.
• Sets up equipment and ensures its return in serviceable condition.
• Maintain program areas by cleaning up after activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director.
• Make recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Director regarding program enhancement and any concerns regarding operations.

PART-TIME LIBRARIAN I/LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time librarian who is passionate about public service, shows initiative, and has a strong work ethic to work the adult reference desk. This is a great opportunity to get experience in reference work and assisting patrons with their needs. You will work in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.  

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

Will work at least one shift per week with additional sub hours available. Applicant must be able to work Saturday (9:15am - 5:15pm) and/or Sunday (11:30am - 5pm) and one weeknight until 8pm. 

Salary: $24.77 - $41.04/hour depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Staffing the Adult Reference Desk is the primary responsibility of this position. A knowledge of literature or the desire to read widely is essential in making book recommendations and understanding types of computers and assisting with technology troubleshooting is crucial. The Mill Valley Library is fast-paced and innovative; the person in this position needs to learn new skills quickly, adapt easily to change, be detail-oriented, and patron focused. Many part-time staff are cross trained to work in other Library departments as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provide reference services including readers’ advisory. 
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons with consistency and in line with library policies.
• Assist patrons troubleshooting technological issues on both library computers and personal devices.
• Help with programming as needed.
• Additional duties based on interests and demonstrated quality of work.

PART TIME SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

1. Implement all daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.

2. Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.

3. Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.

4. Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.

5. Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

6. Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.

7. Assist with training and directing staff and volunteers to ensure program activities are accomplished.

8. Provide information and open communication with appropriate individuals.

9. Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of: Recreation programs and curriculum Ability to: Work assigned program hours. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and understand and carry out oral and written directions. Learn pertinent City rules, policies, ordinances and program requirements. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Education: the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Minimum qualifications: Possession of high school diploma or GED certificate.

Education/Training: First Aid and CPR training. Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible recreation or program administration experience AND prior experience working with age appropriate groups (children through adults).

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver License. Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certificate.

Description 

Under the general direction from the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist – Enrichment is responsible to act as a liaison to the Department’s flourishing enrichment (after school) program and ensure the smooth operation of programming for preschool and elementary aged classes both on and off-site. This includes the elementary-aged afterschool programs Supervised Play at Old Mill Elementary School and Center of Play at the Mill Valley Community Center. This position requires a high level of customer service, attention to detail, marketing prowess, evaluation and oversight of programs, independent contractors, and part-time staff, and the ability to build relationships throughout the community. The Recreation Specialist- Enrichment will assist other staff in the Youth and Teens Division for seasonal programs as needed. 

The ideal candidate will have significant experience working in elementary aged programs, ideally in a fast-paced and dynamic setting. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field with a minimum of two years of experience in delivering kindergarten, elementary and/or youth programming, etc. is preferred.

NOTE: This is a part-time, non-benefitted position for the Mill Valley Arts and Recreation Department.  

DEFINITION: Communicate with participants, families, instructors, staff and elementary school sites to coordinate class schedules, registrations, and program needs for the TK-5th grade After School Enrichment programs. Hours are approximately Monday-Friday, 12:30pm-5:30pm. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: 

• Facilitates recreation activities for specific age group: Transitional Kindergarten through 5th Grade. 

• Organizes, implements, directs, supervises and/or promotes specific programs and activities. 

• Processes program payments promptly and thoroughly. 

• Programs enrichment classes for each season (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).  

• Participates in the preparation and administration of assigned program budget. 

• Works with local School District, PTAs, and community groups in developing, promoting, and providing programs and activities. 

• Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 

• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively and professionally with schools, staff, parents, and children. 

• Monitors the day-to-day operations of the programs, including making site visits, handling and resolving complaints not requiring the attention of a supervisor and ensuring that programs and events have required materials, staff, and supplies. 

• Assists in the evaluation of programming including conducting customer satisfaction surveys and analyzing reports on program effectiveness. 

• Enforces safety and operating procedures and provides for maintenance needs including compliance with health and safety codes. 

• Creation and development of new programs, as needed. 

• Accurately maintain attendance records. 

• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably. 

• Perform related duties as required. 

• Must be able to lift 50lbs.  

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.
