THE POSITION:

Under general supervision, this part-time position performs a wide range of library tasks; assists patrons by answering reference and other questions and in selecting library materials; and performs related duties as required in the Sonoma Valley Regional Library.

TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; and two (2) years of work experience in library services. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

• Principles and practices of paraprofessional library work, including library reference, readers’ advisory, and other library services.

LIBRARY ASSOCIATE    

Under general supervision, provides excellent customer service, performs a variety of paraprofessional duties that follow established procedures and involve a variety of library support services such as reference, readers’ advisory, and collection maintenance and management; provides direct patron support through instruction and aid in the use of library resources; provides supplemental circulation services; may be assigned as the Person-in-Charge in the absence of higher-level Library staff; and performs related duties as required.

Receives general supervision from a Central Branch Manager, Branch Manager, or other management or supervisory staff.  May provide work direction, training, and functional supervision to clerical or technical staff and/or volunteers.

Class Characteristics

This is the journey-level class in the Library Associate series, functioning as support staff to a Branch Manager or Librarian by assisting patrons with reference questions and readers’ advisory.  Direct customer service is further provided through instruction and aid in the use of library resources including the catalog, databases, and equipment, as well as through supplemental circulation services as needed.  Incumbents participate in managing the collection through assisting in ordering activities.  Employees in this classification also regularly assist with collection maintenance by determining condition of materials and mending, discarding, or labeling as needed.  Participation in shelf maintenance activities including shelving, arranging, and weeding is also common.  At this level incumbents work independently within identified parameters and resolve problems of diverse scope where analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors.  Performance expectations include the application of broad job knowledge in performance of the full range of responsibilities within the classification.  This class is distinguished from the Senior Library Associate class in that the latter performs a variety of complex paraprofessional library support duties of a specialized nature, provides lead direction, or may be assigned responsibility for the administration of a Special Collection or oversight of a Rural Station.

Physical Demands

Must possess mobility to work in a standard office and library setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone.  This classification primarily works indoors and requires movement between work areas.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve materials and data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate standard office equipment.  Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to retrieve and shelve materials.  Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items, storage containers, and shelving units weighing an average of 20 pounds, and up to 50 pounds of weight, in order to move materials from one place to another, with the aid of lifting/moving equipment.

Environmental Elements

The City of Foster City is accepting applications for a Part-time Parks Maintenance Worker.

This is a part-time position assigned to parks maintenance, which includes weekend rotation in parks and assistance to other departments in emergency and non-routine situations. Maintenance Worker is an entry-level position and receives general supervision from Parks Maintenance Supervisors and ongoing training on a wide variety of equipment, operational rules, guidelines, procedures and methods.

Performs mowing, weeding, trimming, pruning, cultivating, fertilizing, pest control, planting and cleaning of lawns, trees, plants, and parks; removes and disposes of trash and litter; maintains park and maintenance equipment, buildings and facilities; maintains irrigation systems; performs construction and demolition of park facilities, drainage, low-voltage electrical and irrigation systems for new, expanded and renovated park facilities as part of capital improvement projects; performs minor plumbing or building repair duties; supervises and coordinates Sheriff’s Work Program personnel; operates small trucks, dump trucks, ride-on and walk-behind mowing equipment; may be required to operate heavy equipment; utilizes a wide variety of construction tools and mechanical equipment; may be required to interact with customers on site or when requested; may be required to utilize department or City-wide software applications to maintain records or perform various duties. Involves significant time walking, stooping, bending, squatting, walking, lifting heavy objects, operating hand and power tools, equipment, and vehicles on a daily basis. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting for a part-time Communications Assistant for the City’s Communication and Engagement program with the Administration Department. The main goal of Communication and Engagement program is to provide timely and accurate information to the media and public regarding routine city operations, special events and emergency operations and maintain robust communication strategies to convey information to the widest possible audience.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The part-time Communication Assistant provides support in the City’s Communication and Engagement program under the direct supervision of the Communication and Engagement Manager. The Communications Assistant will work in the areas of written communication, print and digital media communication, marketing, community engagement, photography and videography, and customer service. POLICE CADET

$12.24 - $14.88/hr.

DEFINITION:  The Cadet Program is designed to introduce recent high school graduates (ages 18 to 24) to a law enforcement career and to prepare them for entry into the Police Academy.   Under direct supervision, the Cadet position performs a wide variety of police support duties and clerical assistance for the Fontana Police Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The employee must have the ability to:

• Perform reception duties; greet visitors and direct to appropriate staff; answer questions and provide general information to the public; answer phones and forward calls as appropriate.
• Provide assistance in property control as needed; log incoming property into computer, release property, transport evidence to crime lab, appear in court to testify regarding the validity of evidence.
• Provide support assistance and learn the duties performed in the following areas:  lobby reception, records, crime prevention, dispatch, patrol, and property control.
• Provide clerical support as needed; type, file, provide requested forms and reports; release vehicles to individuals as appropriate.

The City of Albany is seeking motivated candidates to apply for a part-time opening in our Police Department.  Under direct supervision, the Police Cadet performs a variety of routine and progressively more difficult tasks in an apprenticeship program in preparation for a career in law enforcement. The Police Cadet performs assignments in various divisions of the Police Department and completes related work as required.

Police Cadets are hired into this temporary non-sworn, non-benefited position for up to a four-year period while the Police Cadet and the department explore the incumbent’s interest and competency for employment opportunities in law enforcement. Police Cadets serve at the pleasure of the Chief of Police. A significant degree of initiative, independent judgment, and discretion is required. Individuals hired will be required to wear a uniform which is provided by the Police Department. This is not a sworn Peace Officer position; no weapon will be authorized.

Class Characteristics

The classification of Police Cadet is used for apprenticeship type programs in the field of law enforcement to familiarize incumbents with public service in various policing occupations. Police Cadet is a non-sworn, multi-incumbent class which performs the majority of duties. Duties assigned to this class does not require the incumbents to have Police Officer status. Experience in this position exposes Cadets to various working units and practices within the Police Department over a period of time, generally less than four years. A Police Cadet is not expected to have prior experience but is expected to have a demonstrable interest in public service, specifically a career in policing.

• Must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in at least 6 semester/8 quarter units of Police Science, Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice or a related field, or, if not currently enrolled, must have earned at least 12 semester/18 quarter units of Police Science, Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice or a related field at an accredited college or university.
• Must be able to successfully pass a police department pre-employment screening process which includes background, polygraph, psychological and medical investigations.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include overtime, emergency call back, shift work, nights, holidays and weekends to accommodate department needs.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors in a front counter or office environment and may occasionally be performed outdoors with full exposure to the elements. An incumbent drives a vehicle on City business, sits and stands for periods of time, uses a computer, walks and may run on slippery/uneven surfaces, climbs, kneels, crouches, twists, reaches, bends, crawls and grasps, lifts, carries, pushes, pulls and drags equipment and other items weighing up to 30 pounds. When assisting with traffic control, an incumbent may be exposed to vehicular traffic and fumes. When assisting with property and evidence, incumbents may be exposed to dust, dirt, bugs, rodents and rodent droppings inherent in storage facilities and a variety of hazardous compounds which may be found on property/evidence to include materials contaminated by blood and other human products, explosive materials and dangerous narcotic compounds. • Collaborate and exchange information with other public agencies and housing authorities.
• Schedule and assist with initial inspections of Section 8 residences to verify eligibility, and inspections of existing clients to verify continuing compliance.
• Maintains a variety of data specific to the City’s affordable housing program, including waiting lists, participant income, allowances, and family compositions.
• Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies, City management and staff, and the public.
• Performs related duties as required.

Education/Training:

Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Specialized general office and clerical training is highly desirable.

Experience:

  One year of customer service experience involving a high level of public contact.

License or Certificate:

• Possession of an appropriate driver’s license.
• A current typing certificate, within the last 12 months, demonstrating a minimum net proficiency of 30 wpm, must be submitted along with the application. Failure to comply will result in disqualification. Certificates must be provided by a recognized source, i.e. employment service, business school, etc. Employees of Suisun City who are currently working in a position that requires a minimum net typing speed of 40 wpm are exempt from obtaining a typing certificate.

THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking to fill one exciting part-time opportunity to serve as a Community Garden Farmer for the Therapeutic Community Garden. The Community Garden Farmer position will appeal to individuals who love to work outdoors and are passionate about teaching and mentoring individuals with behavioral health needs about gardening.  The Community Garden Farmer will report to the Clinical Program Manager.

This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Maintain and care for the garden, teaching and mentoring Tri-City staff and program participants about gardening;
• Maintain produce logs/reports, conduct horticulture research to manage plants, irrigation systems and pest control;
• Form beds for planting;
• Select seeds or plants for planting; cultivate and prepare soil for planting;
• Sow seeds or alternative germination techniques; weed; and prepare and conduct composting;
• Assemble and maintain irrigation systems, in addition to manually watering crops, plants and trees;
• Plan plant production to ensure ample harvest will be available for marketing and distribution;
• Assist team in developing group curriculum that integrates horticulture skills;
• Participate in community events and presentations to promote the garden and other duties as assigned.
