Temporary Maintenance Worker – Parks & Roadsides 

Salary: $20.00/hour

DEFINITION 

Perform a variety of general maintenance services for parks and roadsides and other areas as assigned within the Town.   

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position. 
• Flexible schedule up to 29 hours per week, which may include weekend work; not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year. The schedule for this position would be Friday through Monday. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED 

General supervision is received from the Maintenance Supervisor. May exercise supervision of Work Alternative Program participants as assigned. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES 

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:  

• Clean up trash in and around Town-maintained park and roadside areas. 
• Operate a variety of equipment, including: half ton and three-quarter ton trucks, Cushman and golf cart (or similar) vehicles, blowers and other two-cycle equipment, and hand tools (i.e., shovel, rake, hoe, etc.). 
• Periodically groom sports fields and bocce ball courts with equipment and/or machinery provided. 
• Prepare baseball fields and bocce ball courts for league play. 
• Assist Maintenance Services personnel on assigned projects.  

• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Knowledge of: 

• Construction and maintenance materials, methods, and terminology. 

• The use, purposes and maintenance of hand tools; and the operation of light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment in performing duties. 

Ability to: 

• Understand and follow oral and written directions. 
• Ability to work both in a supervised and unsupervised environment. 
• Perform manual labor for extended periods of time; and operate under tight deadlines. 
• Lift equipment and materials up to 50 lbs. 
• Work flexible hours. 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION 

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

Education: 

Equivalent to completion of the eighth grade. Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred. 

Experience: 

Landscape and/or irrigation maintenance experience is desirable. 

LICENCE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S) 

Possession of a valid California State Driver’s License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire and good driving record.

Job Description

This position performs preventive, routine and emergency maintenance and repair of a variety of heavy and light industrial and marine equipment, related systems and components. The incumbent will operate precision equipment and respond to trouble calls associated with the Port's ferry terminal systems, boats, sewer pumps and other Port related equipment. The nature of this work requires sustained physical effort frequently under adverse weather conditions and/or working in confined spaces. The incumbent may be required to work alternative shifts in order to do tide-dependent work.

Nature of Work: Some positions may involve exposure to adverse physical and working condition and lifting objects weighing in excess of 70 pounds. Incumbents will be required to work varying hours and/or shifts, including weekends, evening and holidays in a 24 hour/7 days-a week operation.

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

Under the administrative direction of the Ports Finance and Administration Division, the Information Systems (IS) Director plans, directs, and coordinates information system operations and activities for the Port of San Francisco. This includes overseeing system design, development, and implementation, as well as coordinating data and information systems across departments. The IS Director is responsible for the operation and maintenance of these systems.

The Port is in the process of replacing several business-critical systems in the next five years, including real estate and work order management systems.  The IS Director will lead these efforts, requiring the creation of a systems strategic plan that aligns different systems with the Port’s primary business needs while integrating with citywide financial and payroll systems.  This plan will involve collaborating with business divisions to identify and prioritize system requirements, such as vacancy, profit and loss, and common area expense allocation reports for the real estate portfolio, as well as berthing management systems for various visiting ships and boats.

The IS Director will also identify necessary business division process changes and establish short- and long-term deliverables. This position oversees two distinct functions: an applications group responsible for implementing and maintaining technology applications tailored to the Port’s needs, and an infrastructure group that ensures a stable and secure environment for desktop and mobile devices.

The essential duties of IS Director include the following:

• Develops and implements the strategic systems plan for the Port.
• Leads the IS division, building capacity and supporting the infrastructure and business applications teams.
• Plans and directs the day-to-day information systems activities for the Port, including application and infrastructure support, desktop administration and IS Help Desk support services.
• Performs continuous evaluation and assessment of all activities, providing timely reports to upper management.

The City of Foster City is recruiting for a part-time Public Works Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. The is a part-time non-benefited position working approximately 20 hours per week, and no benefits are provided. 

Important and Essential Responsibilities 
Operates hand and power tools, light and heavy construction equipment and specialized wastewater equipment. Handles and applies chemicals. Maintains, operates, inspects, repairs and installs water distribution system facilities including piping, storage tanks, meters, hydrants, valves, pressure reducing stations, pumping stations, pumps, controls, measuring devices, cathodic protection systems, communication systems, and related appurtenances.

Education and Training Guidelines: 
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be:

Education: Completion of a job or technical training program in maintenance or construction; completion of high school or the equivalent.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner.

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships; engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem- solving; and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. 

The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team provides a continuum of supportive services, from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine that is answered in 4 languages (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point.

DefinitionUnder administrative direction from the Human Services Director, plans, organizes and directs a Division of the Human Services Department which provides specialized family services; and serves as a member of the department's management team.

Class Characteristics
This professional management classification in the Human Services Department may be assigned as Youth and Family Services Administrator, Aging and Family Services Administrator or Family Resource Center Administrator. Incumbent follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; it is characterized by the responsibility to develop and implement mental and physical health and other social services that support self-sufficiency, strengthen families, help children achieve their optimal development, and help older adults remain independent and engaged in the community for as long as possible. Supervision for the Family Resource Center Administrator is jointly provided by the Human Services Director and leadership team of the Family Resource Center. Review of work is occasional or on a problem basis with incumbents presenting alternative courses for policy decisions. Routine and unusual problems are handled within the context of general plans, broad policies, budgetary limitations and professional standards. Successful performance is measured by total results. This classification is distinguished from Human Services Director by the latter's responsibility to plan, organize and direct the work of the Human Services Department, and from Clinical Supervisor by the latter's responsibility to supervise counseling or social work staff, to monitor the implementation of professional standards, and to provide training and direction to professional staff and interns. o Services for Frail Elderly including: Develops and implements operational policies and procedures for service coordination among the Friendly Visitor, Companion for Life, Senior Peer Counseling, Para transit, and other City programs; monitors and evaluates program performance; reviews existing programs for immediacy and applicability, directing revision as appropriate; coordinates programs with other agencies; provides effective problem assessment and client complaint response.
