The City of Pacifica is a beautiful coastal community, just south of San Francisco with an exciting opportunity. We are currently hiring for Maintenance Assistants to join our team. Under general supervision, Maintenance Assistants perform unskilled/semi-skilled labor and maintenance work.

SALARY

$19.00 - $23.00 per hour

This is a part-time, at-will, non-benefited position. Hours are limited to less than 1,000 hours per year.

BASIC EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform a variety of unskilled/semi-skilled maintenance or custodial duties involving manual labor of facilities, parks, storm drains, streets, etc.
• Clean and inspect facilities for vandalism or potential hazards.
• Sanitize surfaces, repair minor plumbing problems, diagnose basic sewer issues, replace components on fixtures.
• Maintain area(s) as assigned including parks and public buildings, performing basic repairs, inspections and landscaping.
• Load and unload supplies and materials.
• Assist with various areas of public works such as minor asphalt repairs, brush removal, facility repairs, stewardship of protected species, etc.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.

Central County Fire Department (CCFD) serves the Cities of Burlingame and Millbrae and the Town of Hillsborough. The Department serves a population of 66,045 from six fire stations across a service area of approximately 15 square miles. CCFD is supported by 91 FTEs and a FY2024-25 operating budget of $37 million. 
 
CCFD is recruiting for a full-time Fire Inspector to join our dynamic, well-regarded Prevention Division! Under the direction and supervision of the Fire Marshal or Deputy Fire Marshal, the Fire Inspector performs responsible, technical, and specialized work in life safety inspection, fire investigation, and engineering and code enforcement. An integral member of the department, the Fire Inspector position offers a variety of exciting ways to make a direct impact in the communities we serve. From inspections, plan reviews, code compliance, fire prevention education, and investigating the cause and origin of fires, the Fire Inspector facilitates the overall safety and well-being of the public. 
 
Salary range $138,781.76 - $168,690.08; salary supplemented by highly competitive benefits. Placement within the range will be dependent on qualifications and experience.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City.  See Firefighter Trainee job description for more details. Upon successful completion of the Firefighter Academy training program and Field Training Orientation (FTO/Apprentice), incumbents of this non-sworn classification may be appointed to the sworn classification of Firefighter/Engineer and serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months. Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighters or Firefighter/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units.  Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

1. Must possess a valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate or valid Paramedic license.
2. Provide proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPT) certificate prior to appointment to the classification of Firefighter/Engineer.  CPAT must be current.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.  Driving record will be reviewed and any infractions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Knowledge of:

• Basic life support

Ability To:

• Act in accordance with departmental policies, rules, and instructions in the field of firefighting.
• Apply principles practices and procedures of modern firefighting.
• Safely operate fire apparatus, equipment, tools, devices, facilities and use properly.
• Perform tasks relating to firefighting, medical aid and other calls for assistance.
• Maintain an Emergency Medical Technician Certification as required by the State of California.
• Act appropriately in emergency situations.
• Understand and follow oral and written directions promptly and accurately.
• Analyze fire and emergency situations and adopt effective courses of action.
• Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Establish, maintain and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Operate and maintain voice radio equipment, and a computer terminal or personal computer.
• Drive and operate fire apparatus and motor vehicles proficiently and safely.

Special Requirements - Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:

• Must be eighteen years of age;
• Vision Standards: Must pass a pre-employment medical exam according to the standards set by The National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and freedom from color blindness;
• Hearing Standards: Must pass a pre-employment medical exam according to NFPA;
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, lift and carry in excess of 100 lbs.; pull and/or drag 175 lbs.; work in the following environments: cold, extreme heat, extreme noise, outdoors, confining work spaces, elevated areas; work with electrical hazards, vibration, chemicals, dust, toxic waste, mechanical hazards, and explosive materials; availability for shift work.
• This position shall serve a probationary period of eighteen (18) months.
• As a condition of employment, employees shall comply with mandated medical monitoring.
