The City of Half Moon Bay will host an internship position within the Communications / City Clerk Department.

About the City

The City of Half Moon Bay is a Bay Area coastal community of approximately 12,500 residents and is located 25 miles south of San Francisco. The City is governed by a five-member elected City Council and utilizes the council-manager form of government. The City Council appoints a City Manager who is responsible for the oversight of daily operations and provides leadership for the City’s programs. The City currently employs 40 full-time employees in the following departments: City Manager’s Office, Administrative Services and Finance, Community Development, Public Works and Communications/ City Clerk. The City also contracts Public Safety with San Mateo County Sheriff's Department.

About the Department

The Communications / City Clerk Department is seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated, and innovative individual interested in sharpening their skills to learn how municipal government operations function. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for an individual interested in enhancing their knowledge and experience in city administration, local government, and community engagement. The successful candidate will also learn how to maintain contracts, agreements, and other legislative actions, as well as, gain knowledge on inner workings of policy and accurate record keeping. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to assist in outreach, digital media, and other communications initiatives.  Through mentorship and under general supervision, the successful candidate will be responsible to complete specific projects and a variety of ongoing assignments to help develop their knowledge and skills. Some of the various projects and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Assist with Social Media content and monitoring
• Assist in the development of community outreach programs and events
• Assistant with legislative advocacy tracking and grant applications
• Assist with records management projects and related tasks
• Assist with elections and district election community meetings (planning and outreach)
• Support the Communications Director /City Clerk, Communications Program Manager, and Deputy City Clerk on numerous interdepartmental projects

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

Some completed coursework leading to an Undergraduate degree, with major in Public Administration, Communications, Public Policy, or Business Administration.

Knowledge of:

PRODUCTION ASSISTANT | CABLE TELEVISION

Paid Internship for someone who wants to do Television Production. Sure, go to the big stations and you will get to sweep, file and answer phones. Work at San Bruno Cable TV Channel 1 and you will operate cameras, set up lights, troubleshoot, edit, program and more! Pay starts at $16/hour.

We are looking for enthusiastic people who ask questions. A flexible schedule is necessary, as we have evening meetings, and we tape programs during the day. Must be available Tuesday evenings for City meetings. The Production Aide may be required to work multiple evenings per month. Availability for productions during the daytime is helpful. Office and prep hours may be scheduled as mutually agreeable. Expect to work up to 15 hours a week. A reliable vehicle to get to locations is a must. 1 year prior experience in video production setting necessary. The Production Aide works directly with government clients and will be expected to take care with his or her appearance. A familiarity with the workings of local government and an interest in government would be very helpful.

BENEFITS
This is a part-time, at-will temporary position with a flexible schedule, and does not provide any benefits, with the exception of paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

County of San Mateo Health System is excited to be able to offer a unique job opportunity to well-qualified individuals for the position of Supervising Nurse Practitioner (Supervising NP) as part of the County of San Mateo Obstetrics and Gynecology team. This is a full-time, benefited position.
 
The successful hire will receive direction from the Medical Director of Specialty Care and will exercise supervision over assigned Obstetrics and Gynecology NPs, who are located in three clinics (San Mateo Main Campus, Coastside Clinic, and Fair Oaks Health Center). The supervisory scope includes quality improvement, program development, on-site and remote supervision of nurse practitioners, and continuing partnership with the contracted Obstetrics and Gynecology group. This classification is distinguished from the Nurse Practitioner Series for having full administrative supervisory responsibility over other Nurse Practitioners. Clinical supervision of assigned staff is provided by the medical director, supervising physician, contracted physician and/or manager.
 
The Practitioner will work within all clinical areas that serve our Obstetrics and Gynecology patients. Work may include both clinical and administration support throughout San Mateo Medical Center. Examples Of Duties:

• Work with our contracted Obstetrics and Gynecology Physician group in establishing and meeting quality metrics and goals for patient care
• Establishing workflow process and standardizing the clinical practice throughout San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) system.
• Supervise the Nurse Practitioners that work in the all Obstetrics and Gynecology clinics in SMMC, this includes selection, performance evaluation, and corrective action.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, hospital staff, community organizations and others.
• Work with our Quality process (LEAP) to have meaningful, data driven improvements in work flow and quality.
• Work with Core team in each location to standardize and ensure best use of resources to meet patient quality care.
• Work with referring providers to improve referring patterns and communications throughout SMMC.

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is three years of practice within specialty area or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
 
Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a California license as a Registered Nurse.
• Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Nurse Practitioner Certification.
• Possession of a California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Furnishing Number.

Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) offers a broad spectrum of mental health and substance use services for children, youth, families, adults and older adults in San Mateo County in the prevention, early intervention and treatment of mental illness and/or substance use conditions. Mental health services are also available for emotionally disturbed children, older adults at risk of institutionalization, children in special education or at risk of out-of-home placement, uninsured residents of San Mateo County and people of any age in a major crisis.
 
Correctional Health Services provides integrated medical, dental, mental health, and chemical dependency treatment to San Mateo County's incarcerated adults, and medical and dental care to the juvenile hall population. Medical services include health screening, treatment, education, and 24-hour emergency response for juveniles and adults.
 
The San Mateo Medical Center is a public hospital and clinic system fully accredited by the Joint Commission. The Medical Center operates outpatient clinics throughout San Mateo County and also an acute-care hospital. We serve the healthcare needs of County residents, serving as the healthcare home for underserved and underinsured residents, with an emphasis on education and prevention. Under general supervision, Nurse Practitioners will provide services such as conducting complete physical examinations, developing diagnostic impressions, and managing care of patients working in one or more specialty areas, such as geriatric, pediatric, family health, or OB/GYN practice.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

The Nurse Practitioner is fully competent to independently perform a variety of responsible primary health care services and other clinical procedures that require the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients in a specialized nursing area office support duties. Positions in this series differ from those in the class of Staff Nurse in that Nurse Practitioners provide primary health care services and other clinical procedures that require specialized licensure and the exercise of a high degree of clinical judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients in a specialized nursing area.

Examples Of Duties: 
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assess the health of patients to determine their physical, emotional and social status by taking a complete medical history, doing a physical examination, initiating screening and diagnostic procedures etc; evaluate results of clinical findings and laboratory tests; report any abnormalities to a physician.
• Identify and manage in collaboration with a physician, common illnesses and/or other health problems and refer these problems or illnesses that require immediate medical attention to the appropriate practicing physician; assume on-going responsibility for follow-ups.
• Collaborate with physicians and other health professionals regarding health problems and illnesses following established protocol relative to diagnosis and treatment of patients.
• Counsel parents or other family members regarding health maintenance in the area of specialization.
• Coordinate and facilitate referrals to other health or social agencies.
• Maintain accurate records of assessments, follow-ups and evaluations.
• Supervise the work of subordinate health workers and participate in professional and administrative meetings.
