Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

 

Examples of Duties:

• Conduct research and analysis of State Law and Fair Housing requirements for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation
• Conduct field investigations as necessary
• Prepare and conduct surveys in association with the Housing Element implementation progress and reporting

Duties may include, but are not limited to town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research. The position will serve as a regular staff member, and will receive assignments and work direction from the Administrative Services Director. The primary goal of the internship program is to provide a recent graduate an opportunity to apply their academic training in a municipal government setting. This paid internship provides hands-on experience in the daily operations of municipal government on all levels, thus enhancing the intern’s skills and résumé for a future profession in government.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related fields, or expected college graduation in Summer 2026 or 2027; completion of some course work for a master’s degree in public or business administration, political science, planning or a closely related field in desired;

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

 

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

Description

Per Diem Communications Officer

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic;

dispatches and coordinates police, fire, public works and other municipal staff and equipment via multi-frequency two-way radio; maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records, and radio logs; and does related work as required.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Communications Officer II

This classification has primary responsibility for staffing the Town’s public safety dispatch communication center. Under most circumstances, the training and experience for this position would occur by having prior experience working for another police department as a Communications Officer for a period of at least two years.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Officer II typically performs, but is not limited to, the duties noted below on a regular basis:

• Receives and handles incoming telephone and voice radio calls for police, fire, ambulance, and public works

• Secures and records information as to exact locations and circumstances using radio or other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the emergency scene.

• Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and directs and coordinates with staff from other agencies on a mutual-aid basis, as needed.

• Operates a multi-channel two-way radio, telephones, teletype, office equipment and software systems.

• Performs numerous duties simultaneously.

• Prioritizes calls for service as well as other work-related tasks such as assisting with schedule, monitoring email account or assisting with social media.

• Maintains radio logs and records other information as required.

• Maintains resource files for computer aided dispatch system.

• Serves as trainer to newly hired dispatchers on as needed basis.

• Assist with providing state-mandated training on relevant matters to other department staff, as directed.

• Oversees and performs work related to the warrant process.

• Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment in clean and working condition

• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Definition

Under general supervision, performs a variety of complex technical accounting support duties in the preparation, maintenance, and processing of accounting and financial transactions, including payroll, general accounting, and financial reporting; and performs related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Assistant Finance Director.  Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

 

Class Characteristics

This is the advanced-level classification in the Accounting Technician series responsible for performing the most complex work assigned to the series.  Incumbents regularly work on tasks which are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment.  Positions in the classification rely on experience and judgment to perform assigned duties in accordance with federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.  Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines and methods to complete assignments.  Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This class is distinguished from the Assistant Finance Director in that the latter has full management and supervisory authority in planning, organizing, and directing the full scope of accounting and finance operations within the department.
