The Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District invites applications for  DIRECTOR OF FIELD OPERATIONS

The Director of Field Operations has overarching responsibility for the wastewater collections and surface runoff/storm drain systems; work in these two major disciplines includes the operation, maintenance, repair and replacement as necessary to assure the continuous operation and longevity of said systems.  This management position receives general direction from the District Manager and provides general direction to the Field Operations Superintendent.

The Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District invites applications for COLLECTION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN I / II to fill three vacancies.  The final filing date is Friday, March 6, 2020.

This position, under immediate (Collection Systems Technician I and Entry levels) to general (Collection Systems Technician II ) supervision, learns and performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled work in support of District’s stormwater and  wastewater collection systems including the installation, inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance and repair activities including equipment operation and mechanical repair activities for stationary and mobile equipment; and performs other duties as assigned.

Salary: $5,166- $6,290 per month

Definition

Under direct supervision performs EPA and Standard Method analyses  on water samples, provides support for laboratory operations and activities, sample receiving and  data entry through LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System),  collect water samples from specified field locations; assist field technicians with lake monitoring and treatments for algae control; and perform related work as required.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is a technical support position which assists in daily functions of laboratory services, operations and activities. This class is distinguished from that of Chemist I in that the latter is capable of performing and interpreting the results of more complex variety of analyses and engaging in analytical research projects.

Examples of Duties

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Performs routine laboratory tests such as alkalinity, hardness, color, conductivity,  pH, turbidity and other tests as necessary;
• Prepares chemical standards and solutions;
• Prepares samples for analysis;
• Clean, wash, and assemble laboratory glassware and apparatus;
• Performs quality control tests and record keeping;
• Assists in various water quality studies performing special sampling and testing;
• Compiles and records data on to worksheets; enters water quality data and results of analyses into the laboratory information management system (LIMS);
• Prepares and maintains accurate records, prepares memos, basic reports and documentation;
•  Collect water samples from specified locations; conduct routine field tests on samples and/or prepares samples for storage or transportation.
• Assist laboratory personnel in the treatment of district reservoirs, including operation of, and sample collection from a small boat.
• Observes standard safety precautions related to the work and follows applicable safety rules and regulations.
