The Town of Hillsborough is seeking part-time clerical assistance in the Planning & Building Department.    

Position requirements

Position will work four days a week, four hours per day.

Monday - Thursday  8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

The successful candidate will provide general office clerical assistance, including but not limited to:

• Scheduling inspections
• Answering phones
• Filing
• Scanning
• Mailings
• Other duties as assigned

Minimum requirements

Graduation from high school and one year responsible clerical office experience.  Working knowledge of computers and Word/Excel software programs.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  Previous experience in a Planning Department is desirable.

About the Position

This opening is in the City’s Community Development Department, whereby primary support will be given to the Planning, Economic, and Housing Divisions.

Positions in this advanced-level classification perform a variety of clerical work including: complex multiple financial transactions and record keeping; extensive interaction with the public and other interested parties; and other responsible and complex support functions where there is minimal supervision of work that involves standard operating procedures.

Positions in this classification are distinguished from those in the lower class of Administrative Clerk through the complexity of the work performed, the job knowledge required and the independence with which duties are performed.  Senior Administrative Clerks independently compose written documents.

Positions in this classification are distinguished from those in the higher class of Administrative Assistant in that the latter perform technical and administrative work in support of a department head and principal staff.

May exercise limited supervision of part-time or temporary personnel.  Work is performed under minimal supervision or independently depending upon assignment.

Essential Duties

• Processes transactions in support of department programs which entail: substantial interaction with interested parties; knowledge of procedures and policies; and the accounting for payables and monies received.
• Provides information and assistance regarding department programs, policies and procedures to the general public, City personnel, vendors and contractors.
• Processes forms, invoices and other documents in accordance with established procedures; and checks for accuracy and completeness of entries, and for compliance with applicable City, statutory and other requirements; may transcribe documents, and arrange for official recording of documents with County Recorder.
• Computes and receives fees in accordance with department schedules and procedures, records revenue received and provides for the deposit of monies.
• May provide limited supervision to part-time or temporary personnel.
• Enters data and information in the preparation of reports, correspondence, forms and other documents.
• Prepares or assists in preparation of agenda packets for Council, Board and Commission meetings, act as minute taker and prepares minutes for such meetings, post agendas and minutes to City website.
• Processes accounts payable and prepares cash deposits.
• Works to solve customer complaints and issues related to assignment.

The Town of Los Altos Hills is seeking an Assistant or Associate Planner, depending on qualifications, to join its outstanding team of community development professionals. The Town is looking for an individual who wants to make a difference in community planning and who will support the Town’s goals of maintaining its open and rural atmosphere.

Incorporated in 1956, Los Altos Hills is a residential community of nine square miles with a population of 8,334. Town Hall is located on a 2.2 acre campus that is within walking distance of downtown Los Altos. The current Town Hall opened in 2005. An extensive pathway system comprised of about 85 miles of trails and off-road paths connects most of the community and provides a nice environment for walking, running or cycling.

Assistant Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university, with major course work in planning, urban design, geography, architecture, environmental studies and/or a related field.
• At least two (2) years of professional experience in urban or environmental planning, with public sector experience being desirable. A Master’s degree can be substituted for one year of experience.

Associate Qualifications:

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Community Development Department is seeking a full-time Assistant/Associate/Senior Planner. The Planner Series includes Assistant Planner, Associate Planner, and Senior Planner.  This is a single, flexibly staffed position that can be filled at the appropriate level based on complexity of assignment and candidate knowledge, skills, and qualifications.  

Assistant Planner is the entry-level class of this series.  It is characterized by the responsibility for providing staff support in policy and land use-planning activities under close supervision.  Incumbents learn to apply professional principles within a local political environment.  Performs a variety of professional planning duties to develop, and maintain, the City’s General Plan, and to administer the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances.

Associate Planner is a full working level of the series, competent to independently perform the full scope of duties required.  Incumbents may be responsible for administration of a specific project or program.  Performs a variety of professional planning duties to develop, and maintain, the City’s General Plan, and to administer the Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances. 

Senior Planner is distinguished by its responsibility for the administration/supervision of a major part of a planning program.  This class is the advanced journey level classification in the Planner series.  Under administrative direction, is responsible for the program, administration, and the performance of a comprehensive planning/economic development division; performs professional current and/or advanced planning work; and supervises the work of professional and support staff members.

Assistant/Associate Planner:

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Responds to inquiries from the public by providing information regarding the General Plan, the Zoning and Subdivisions Ordinances and statistical data.
• Receives and reviews land use permits, design review applications, zoning and General Plan amendments for conformance with the General Plan, Zoning, and Subdivision Ordinances and other requirements; and prepares staff reports recommending appropriate action.
• Conducts environmental review including preparation of initial studies and negative declarations, technical and administrative support on the preparation of environmental impact reports and staff reports on all phases of environmental review.

• A Master’s degree in planning or a related field may substitute for one (1) year of work experience.

Associate Planner:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in planning, urban studies, geography or related field AND
• Three (3) years of full-time work experience at the Assistant Planner level in municipal or regional planning.
• Any combination of education, experience, and training which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities may substitute for the education (degree) on a year-for-year basis. 
• A Master’s degree in planning or a related field ay substitute for one (1) year of the required work experience.

Senior Planner:

• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or related field AND
• Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional planning experience.

• Public agency experience desirable.

Under the direction of the General Manager and direct supervision of the Assistant General Manager of Operations, perform and assist in Geographic Information System (GIS) data editing and geodatabase maintenance, map and exhibit generation, routine CAD drafting, and the support of District departments in their use of District data and applications.
