The Position

Accounting Assistant I - This is the entry level class in the Accounting Assistant series. This class is distinguished from the Accounting Assistant II level by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series which are performed according to established procedures, and changes in procedures or exceptions to rules are explained in detail as they arise. Since this class can be used as a training class, employees may have only limited experience. Certain positions in this class, those that contain primarily routine and less complex tasks, may be permanently assigned to the "I" level.

Accounting Assistant II - This is the journey level class within the Accounting Assistant series. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Accounting Assistant I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower grade of Accounting Assistant I, or when filled from the outside, require prior accounting clerical experience. Appointment to the higher class requires that the employee be performing the full range of duties for the class and meets the qualification standards for the class.

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Open and close accounts; maintain various ledgers, registers, journals, and spreadsheets according to established account classifications.
• Audit invoices against purchase orders; verify encumbrances; research discrepancies; approve for payment and post to the proper account.
• Maintain daily transaction records by balancing, preparing summaries, and entering into financial system; maintain records of delinquent invoices.
• Respond to citizen inquiries; research and answer employee and department questions regarding the status of accounts and payments, the proper coding of transactions, and other matters.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
• Participate in the preparation of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable as well as control and account verification of an accounting system.

Immediate and/or general supervision is provided by higher level accounting or supervisory positions.

Facilities Environmental Compliance is responsible for the oversight of compliance measures and close monitoring of all District facilities and equipment to regulatory standards from federal, state, regional and local agencies.  The Facilities Environmental Compliance position upholds that facilities/equipment are operated and inspected consistent to District’s regulatory measures and coordinates maintenance and repair actions to uphold a State of Good Repair.  This position ensures prompt notification to applicable regulatory agencies and supports District’s fulfillment of reliable, timely, effective and proactive environmental stewardship.   

 

Examples of Essential Functions:

• Act as primary environmental contact for local, regional, state and federal regulatory agencies and become fully proficient in their respective web portals.
• Monitor and oversee regulatory permit requirements and proper maintenance/retention of applicable compliance records.
• Conduct and/or coordinate with staff and/or third-party contractors for regulatory inspections and scheduled reports of District facilities and equipment.
• Ensure completion of timely and accurate regulatory tests/reports by self, District staff and/or third-party contractors.
• Plan, develop and document a comprehensive training programs to support District in meeting regulatory standards and environmental best practices.  Applicable programs will address content, teaching methods and training frequency.    
• Work with other staff and/or consultants to assist in the creation of training and education materials for a safe working environment.

• Establish working relationships with Facilities Staff, Bus Maintenance Staff, other departments, local authorities and regulatory agencies to provide technical support and/or coordination of regulatory measures.
• Develop and promote Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to guide District staff in meeting regulatory standards and environmental best practices. 
• Ensure that District staff and environmental agencies have immediate access to CERS/CUPA data for emergency personnel, first-responders, and regulatory auditors. 
• Develop and maintain current data/resources to validate District’s compliance measures relative to Authorities Having Jurisdiction – largely the CUPA and the US EPA Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act. 
• Coordinate with District staff, consultants, and/or regulatory agencies that new developments, evolving technologies, and changing site conditions are compliant to regulatory standards. 
• Participate in pre-construction conferences and visit construction sites to monitor contractor’s compliance measures. Monitor third-party contractors for field performance standards and training criteria. Resolve conflicts using progressive measures.
• Provide management with periodic status reports of assigned tasks and duties, including scope, schedule, and costs plus any applicable variances, allowable, and/or corrective actions. 
• Coordinate with District staff to assist with facility site inventories relative to the annual Hazardous Materials Business Plan. 
• Coordinate with District staff to provide existing site data relative to CEQA assessments, and/or sustainability metrics. 
• Function as a technical resource to stakeholders on environmental compliance measures, construction best practices, enforcement standards, and evolving new technologies. 
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect oneself, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. 
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Sufficient experience, training, and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability necessary to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.  In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted.  Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to: 

• Associate degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies, Safety, Public Health, or a closely related field.  
• Five (5) years’ progressive work experience in environmental assessment, compliance monitoring, safety training, and/or construction management.  
• Ability to respond 24/7 

• Ability to possess a valid California driver’s license.
• Operate PC and demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. 
• Possession of a valid 24-hour Hazardous Waste Operations Class Certification (HAZWOPR) is required within 6 months of the start of employment.  Once obtained, the certification must be maintained throughout employment.
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Prior experience with California CERS/CUPA database is desirable.
• Prior experience with Stormwater and Urban Runoff programs is desirable.
• Prior experience with Hazardous Materials and HazMat manifest tracking is desirable.
• Prior experience with Underground and Aboveground Storage Tanks is desirable.

The Position - Employees in this classification will be hired on a limited duration not to exceed two (2) years.

These positions will be responsible for conducting comprehensive data collection, operational studies, analytical reviews, and preparing detailed reports to support departmental and citywide decision making. The role performs policy research, synthesizes findings, and presents recommendations to leadership and stakeholders. It collaborates across departments on special projects, initiatives, and committees, contributing to effective communication and alignment of organizational goals. The position assists in evaluating and revising policies, procedures, programs, and systems, and provides support in project management activities including planning, assessment, and implementation. The County of San Mateo Coroner's Office is seeking a dedicated and compassionate candidate to fill the role of Deputy Coroner.

The Coroner's Office promptly investigates and determines the mode, manner and cause of death of decedents under the Coroner's jurisdiction. Services are provided in an efficient and courteous manner, respecting the needs of the families involved. As of October 2025, the Coroner’s Office has moved to a brand new location consolidating all divisions and featuring state-of-the-art forensic facilities.

About the Role

Deputy Coroners are expected to provide the highest level of professional services in determining the identification of the deceased, collecting and preserving evidence, collecting records, notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal effects of decedents, and working closely with all agencies concerned with the decedent's death.

Under general supervision, the Deputy Coroner investigate circumstances pertaining to the death of a human being, determine the identification of the deceased, collect and preserve evidence, collect records, notify the next of kin, safeguard personal effects of decedents, work closely with all agencies concerned with the decedent’s death and prepare and submit reports on the death to the Coroner.

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate deaths falling under the jurisdiction of the Coroner.
• Report findings to determine necessity for inquests.
• Take photographs for forensic pathologist and case file.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Lift and move bodies of the deceased.
• Take charge of bodies, evidence and property of the deceased.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, the Support Dog Program Coordinator oversees the Police Department’s support dog program within the Community Division. This position serves as the primary handler and caretaker of the department’s support dog.  This class supports community policing efforts by enhancing public engagement, providing emotional support services, and assisting with crisis response. The Support Dog Program Coordinator performs a combination of administrative, program management, and field-based duties, serving as a key liaison between the Police Department, community partners, and support dog teams. Performs other work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Oversees support dog program operations including, training, certification and documentation including deployment history, and compliance documentation; manages program scheduling, logistics, supplies, and budget tracking; prepares reports, correspondence, and presentations for command staff and City leadership. Coordinates and participates in support dog deployments at community events, schools, neighborhood meetings, and public safety outreach initiatives fostering trust and positive interaction with diverse populations; assists with planning, coordinating, and scheduling major events such as National Night Out, school functions, and community presentations, supports field-based engagement efforts that strengthen relationships between the Police Department and the community; assists with crisis response and critical incident support, providing comfort to victims, witnesses, community members and department employees. Builds and maintains relationships with schools, healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, and other community partners; serves as liaison for scheduling visits and coordinating services with external partners; and collaborates with other City departments to support outreach and engagement initiatives. Ensures support dogs meet all certification, vaccination, and behavioral standards; monitors animal welfare and suitability for public and high-stress environments and enforces safety protocols and respond to incidents or concerns. Responds to short-notice call-outs for community critical incidents, internal staff wellness debriefings, or other situations where support dog presence may be beneficial. Maintains awareness of social media trends and collaborates with the Public Information / Social Media team to ensure content accuracy and professionalism. Represents the Daly City Police Department with professionalism, empathy, and strong customer service in public-facing roles. Provides general administrative support for the Community Division as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:  Knowledge of community policing principles and public engagement strategies, police department structure and functions, emergency response environments and protocols; privacy and confidentiality requirements; recordkeeping, reporting and documentation practices; social media trends, basics of psychological trauma and stress responses, crisis intervention principles, canine handling including basic and advanced obedience training, socialization techniques, health, grooming and general care.

Ability to: Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, prepare effective written reports, effectively and professionally represent the City to the public, coordinate multiple projects and schedules effectively, engage diverse community groups, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle sensitive situations; demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, and adaptability in dynamic and high-visibility environments;  interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Education:  Graduation from high school or the equivalent.  Graduation from a college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Psychology, Animal Science, or a related field desirable.

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in program coordination, community engagement, administrative support, or related field. Experience supporting a law enforcement or public safety agency, background in community volunteer coordination, or crisis intervention desirable.  Experience working with dogs in a structured setting (support, service, training, animal care, etc.) is also highly desirable.

License: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License. Possession of CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Physical Requirements:  Able to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds and safely handle and interact with support dogs in various environments

Special Requirements: Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.  Able to work flexible hours based on community and departmental needs.

The Opportunity

San Mateo County Sustainability Department is seeking a creative and highly analytical individual for the position of Administrative Services Manager I (ASM) to oversee the Department’s administrative functions. The ASM will provide fiscal, procurement and grants oversight; coordinate a variety of administrative support functions within the department; assist in the development, implementation and interpretation of administrative policies and procedures; and train and supervise assigned personnel.

This Administrative Services Manager I (ASM) is a hands-on, multi-faceted role that is broad in scope but extremely detailed and technical in nature. The ASM is a supervisory management position responsible for overseeing and coordinating all or most of the administrative support functions within the department including finance, budget, administration, personnel management, purchasing, contract administration, clerical support, management analysis, research, program evaluation and/or other related functions.

The ASM will also support the department in the development and overall management of a Grant Program for identification, pursuit, and implementation of federal, state, and philanthropic grants and funding focused on sustainability programs and projects. This includes developing and supporting systems to manage the entire grants lifecycle, managing and/or guiding analyst and program level staff in identifying opportunities, developing concept papers and proposals, submitting grant applications, project implementation, and grant closeout. The ASM will receive direction from the Executive Leadership team and exercise direct and indirect leadership over professional, technical and/or clerical team members.

The ideal candidate for this position will have or be:

• Knowledge of public financial administration, budgeting, and project accounting. Able to manage the entire budget cycle from planning and developing to monitoring, analyzing, reporting, and forecasting.
• Knowledge of and experience with the County's budget, accounting, auditing, and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of relevant climate mitigation, energy efficiency, climate resilience, stormwater management, waste reduction and management programs and initiatives.
• Possession of great leadership skills and can mentor, inspire, and motivate staff.
• Proficiency in using accounting, financial, budgeting, data, analytical, and/or project management software including Excel and other information systems (such as the County's OFAS, Sherpa, Socrata, Workday, Asana).

Under the supervision and general direction of the District Engineer, this student engineering position  performs a variety of basic technical civil engineering duties such as mapping, data entry, review of residential and commercial developments, and supporting capital projects. Responsibilities include assisting the Associate Engineer with project management, plan review, fee calculations, permit issuance, maintaining engineering records, conducting field surveys, site inspections, and data analysis. Responsibilities also include assisting the Engineering Technician in GIS and AutoCAD related projects as needed.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The Engineering Intern is a part-time hourly/non-exempt position that performs varied tasks and assists the Engineering Team with applied research, inspections, and administrative support functions as part of the learning experience in conjunction with educational coursework leading to an advanced degree in Engineering.

• Performs general GIS/AutoCAD map updates and modifications including the collection of GPS data points.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision from Preschool Instructor(s) and the Recreation Supervisor, the preschool aide assists in planning, organizing, and implementing preschool programming for children ages 2-5 years old in a range of classes from introductory drop-off preschool classes to Kindergarten preparedness preschool classes. Program hours are M-F PM 8:30am – 1:00pm. Approximately 20– 23 hours a week. Preschool aides must be willing and able to both take direction from the Preschool Instructor and work independently when fulfilling tasks. Substitute and on-call positions also available.
