The Los Gatos Monte Sereno Police Department depends on reliable technology for public safety, investigations, communications, and record-keeping. As the Information Technology Systems Administrator, your work will directly contribute to the safety of our residents and the efficiency of our public services by making sure all systems are stable, secure, and aligned with industry best practices, state and federal data security requirements, and Town policies. You will serve as the cloud security officer for the Police Department and help maintain the Town’s IT infrastructure and the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), as needed. 

This is a hands-on role perfect for a motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. We are looking for someone who can communicate effectively with other team members and staff and work independently with little supervision.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Administer, monitor, and maintain servers, networks, workstations, storage, and related infrastructure for the Police Department and the wider Town technology environment.
• Implement and enforce security measures, patching, vulnerability management, backup and recovery, disaster planning.
• Install, configure, and support law enforcement software applications and systems such as:
  • Body-worn cameras 
  • In-car mobile audio video systems 
  • Automated license plate readers
  • Mobile data computers
  • Portable and mobile radios and handheld communication devices
  • Computer aided dispatch (CAD)
  • Records management systems (RMS)
  • Mobile data, mapping, evidence technology systems and audio and video storage technology
  • Associated mobility VPN management, wireless connections for video and data transfer, cellular data connections
• Ensure the connections to CLETS, SLETS, California Department of Justice, Sheriff’s Office, ECOMM, SVDPS meet the DOJ requirements for data security.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues; perform root-cause analysis.
• Maintain user accounts, permissions, authentication, and access control in line with department and Town policies.
• Ensure documentation, policies, and standard operating procedures are updated and followed.

• Provide technical support, both remotely and on-site, including diagnosing and resolving hardware, software and network issues.
• Plan, test, and implement system upgrades, patches, and enhancements.
• Assist with or lead procurement, installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT hardware and software.

• Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, networks, workstations, and other IT infrastructure used by the Police Department and other Town departments.
• Serve as a member of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Team responsible for developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and troubleshooting all aspects of EOC technology.
• Coordinate with and manage external vendors for system upgrades, maintenance, and new technology rollouts.
• Assist with or lead technology projects from conception to implementation.

Qualifications

Work Schedule: Work in an onsite environment, and you may be expected to work onsite in the office up to 5 days per week. In-office workdays are determined by the nature of the work and are scheduled by your supervisor.

The Position

The RTIC Coordinator is a non-sworn classification responsible for overseeing all RTIC operations. This role manages resources, develops and implements training requirements, and ensures the RTIC is functioning effectively. This position provides technical and functional oversight of RTIC to ensure the delivery of timely, accurate real-time intelligence to support field operations and departmental decision-making. The RTIC also participates directly in RTIC operations during peak periods, coordinates scheduling and staffing, and represents the City in related initiatives. Work requires a high level of independent judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to collaborate effectively with sworn personnel, specialized units, and external partners.

Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Efficiently manages resources, including personnel, budget, and technology, to enhance the overall effectiveness of the center.
• Develops training programs and ensures the continuous professional development of personnel assigned to the RTIC.
• Produces complex reports and bulletins for the Police Department to develop strategies and tactics to effectively prevent and control crime.
• Assists the Police Department with real-time information sharing; utilizes video feeds, intelligence databases, and other systems as needed.
• Assists operations and management personnel in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention and suppression of criminal activity.
• Creates and maintains informational databases; uses complex databases and software applications utilized by the RTIC.
• Participates in operations with specialized units to provide real time intelligence through radio communication and other authorized communication platforms.
• Coordinates the scheduling of the RTIC, ensuring coverage when applicable.

• Monitors the performance of operators assigned to the RTIC for compliance with policies, procedures, and relevant laws.

The Summer Learning Challenge is a summer library program that encourages kids, teens and adults to read or listen to books in the summer. The Challenge is a fun, interactive program for the whole family that includes free book giveaways, activities, raffles, and prizes for kids ages 0-18. The program starts on June 1 and runs through the end of August.

We are looking for enthusiastic high school interns to support Library staff with activities both at the libraries and at summer outreach sites throughout the City of Redwood City to promote and support the Summer Learning Challenge. The interns will be responsible for planning and delivering library programs, providing them with opportunities where their voices are elevated and valued.

Example of Duties: Under the supervision of a Librarian perform various duties as assigned for the operation of the Summer Learning Challenge. The County of San Mateo's Sheriff's Office Forensic Laboratory, which is accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board in both Testing and Calibration, is seeking to fill a Criminalist I/II position within its Controlled Substances and Toxicology Sections, which includes participation in crime scene examination.

The Forensic Laboratory was constructed in March 2003 and is located in San Mateo, California. It is managed by a civilian Laboratory Director who is currently supported by three Supervising Criminalists, one Legal Office Services Supervisor, 28 Criminalists and technicians, two Legal Office Specialists, and two Property Officers.

The Criminalist will report to a Supervising Criminalist and will analyze evidence seized in the course of criminal investigations, providing laboratory analysis and expert witness testimony in the areas of seized drug analysis, toxicology (blood alcohol and breath alcohol) and driving under the influence (DUI) interpretation. They may participate in validation studies of new technology and methods for use in casework, cold case investigations, internal audits, and guiding our intern program. Also, on a rotational basis, they will respond with a partner to investigate crime scenes for homicides and officer-involved critical incidents. The ideal candidate will:

• Be an experienced toxicologist, seized drug analyst, or laboratory chemist dedicated to staying abreast of changes within the forensic industry.
• Have knowledge/experience in blood alcohol analysis, breath alcohol analysis, and DUI interpretation.
• Have knowledge/experience in the analysis of controlled substances.
• Have a baccalaureate or an advanced degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or forensic science.
• Be experienced in using a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation, including gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and infrared spectroscopy.
• Have courtroom testimony experience.

The Principal Financial Analyst – Treasury plays a strategic role in managing the financial planning, analytics, and reporting functions for all agencies: San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), the Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA), and the San Mateo County Express Lanes Joint Powers Authority (SMC-ELJPA). The incumbent will collaborate with finance and business leaders to lead high-impact analysis and reporting, deliver recommendations on critical decisions, and manage long-term financial projections. The role will design, analyze, and implement management reports to turn analysis into action and insight. 

Essential Functions & Duties:

• Lead and perform advanced treasury functions across cash management, debt administration, investment oversight, and liquidity planning for SamTrans and related agencies (Caltrain/PCJPB, TA, ELJPA).
• Develop, maintain, and analyze short-term and long-term cash-flow forecasts to support operating needs, capital programs, debt service, and liquidity risk management.
• Support and lead activities related to debt issuance, refunding, and ongoing debt compliance, including preparation of financing analyses, debt service schedules, covenant monitoring, continuing disclosure, and arbitrage/rebate coordination.
• Prepare and review Board-level reports, presentations, and staff reports related to treasury, debt, investments, and cash-flow matters, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with governing policies and disclosure standards.

• Provide technical guidance on treasury processes, financial analysis, and reporting; may serve as a lead analyst on complex or cross-agency initiatives.
• Support annual audit and year-end close activities related to cash, investments, debt, and restricted funds; respond to audit inquiries and implement recommendations as needed.
• Evaluate and improve treasury policies, procedures, internal controls, and reporting tools, including process automation and system enhancements.
• Conduct special studies and ad-hoc financial analyses related to capital financing, interest-rate risk, liquidity strategies, and funding alternatives, and present findings to management.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, bond covenants, and internal policies, and maintain accurate and well-documented records. 
• System administrator of all agencies bank accounts.
• Identify, evaluate, and implement process improvements related to treasury systems, reporting, policies, and procedures to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, bond covenants, policies, and disclosure requirements, maintaining thorough and well-documented records.
• Perform related and other duties as assigned in support of the Finance Department and District-wide financial objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, economics, finance, accounting or closely related field.   
• Four (4) years of full-time relevant and progressive experience in leading financial analysis, financial forecasting/budgeting/planning, and operation/business analysis.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or closely related field.
• Advanced skills in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; experience/knowledge in business intelligence systems (Tableau, Power BI, Hyperion, TM1, etc.).  
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience 
• Experience in the public sector, ideally public transportation. 
• Working knowledge in accounting processes and ERP systems (e.g. PeopleSoft). 
• Outstanding analytical and quantitative skills, experience resolving complex business problems with well-structured analysis.

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is seeking experienced individuals for the position of Cook I/II.

There are multiple vacancies in the Sheriff's Office-Food Service Unit, located inside Maple Street Correctional Facility in Redwood City, CA.

 

Responsibilities of a Cook include, but are not limited to, preparing and serving a variety of dishes in large quantities; checking portioning and garnishing of food, and ensuring that it is served correctly and according to instructions; operating and cleaning a variety of industrial food service equipment; calculating ingredients needed; receiving and storing food; training new cooks; mentoring students and/or interns; supervising the work of and working alongside incarcerated persons (IP), assisting with menu planning and recipe development; and keeping all areas clean within the food services operations. 

 

An ideal candidate will possess one or more of the following: ServSafe Food Manager certification, School Nutrition Specialist certification, or Culinary Certification. The candidate will also have the ability to read and follow standardized recipes, have two or more years of experience as a Cook in the institutional or restaurant industry, and be able to work as part of a team in a large scale fast paced kitchen environment.

• Possession of ServSafe Food Manager certification or Food Protection Manager Certification is required. If the selected candidates do not possess this certification upon hire, they must obtain it within six (6) months of employment.
• Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license. Experience driving a delivery truck is preferred but not required.

 

Candidates chosen for these positions must successfully pass a background investigation in order to work in a locked facility around incarcerated persons. Felony and misdemeanor convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency.

 

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office currently has two regular full-time vacancies with additional vacancies expected. The appointment may be made at either the Cook I or II level, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate(s) and the needs of the department.

 

Cook I: $34.11 - $38.13 /hourly

Cook II: $36.90 - $41.27 /hourly

 

NOTE: The eligible list created from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, term, unclassified, and regular classified vacancies at the Sheriff’s Office or at any one of a number of the following work sites/programs: San Mateo Medical Center; Meals on Wheels Program; and Canyon Oaks Youth Center.

 

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:

• Must possess and maintain a current ServSafe Food Manager or Food Protection Manager Certification for the duration of employment in this classification or obtain certification within six (6) months of employment.
• Some positions require possession of a current and valid Class C California driver’s license or equivalent.

Experience and Education:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is: 

• Cook I: Two years of experience in a large commercial or institutional kitchen which has included preparing and serving food and cleaning kitchen equipment and facilities.
• Cook II: Two years of experience as a kitchen worker, including one year as a journey-level cook, preparing and serving food in a large commercial or institutional kitchen.

Knowledge of: 

• Volume food production techniques; methods and equipment used in production of large quantities of food; kitchen cleaning and sanitation methods; basic arithmetic.
   

Skill/Ability to: 

• Prepare and serve large quantities of food; read and accurately follow recipes and menus; work rapidly under pressure; work cooperatively with others; and direct the work of assistants.
   

Physical Requirements: 

• Must be physically able to lift, carry or push materials, supplies or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; and walk or stand for long periods of time.
   

Security Clearance: 

• Positions working in a correctional facility require that the applicant obtain and maintain a security clearance as a condition of employment.
   

Other requirements: 

• Majority of positions require employees to work weekends, holidays, evenings or other shifts and be on-call.

Application/Examination

Open and Promotional. Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, or extra-help/limited term position prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.
 
The examination process will consist of a scored evaluation of relevant training and experience. The evaluation is based solely on the responses to the supplemental questionnaire. Applicants who pass the training and experience evaluation will be placed on a list of eligible candidates and ranked according to their score (weight: 100%). Because of the training and experience evaluation, not all applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are guaranteed advancement through the examination process. All examinations will be given in County of San Mateo, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.
