The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Weighmaster in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! Working in the scale house at the solid waste transfer station, the Weighmaster is responsible for assessing incoming loads and providing direction to customers.
In this role, you will weigh vehicles entering and leaving the transfer station; estimate volumes of small loads and assess contents; collect established fees for dumping; provide information and direct customers; and use personal computers for data collection, computation, reconciliation, record keeping and reporting.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to completion of high school and either three (3) years of solid waste collection and disposal experience, or three (3) years of general office or accounting support work experience. Prior experience in refuse collection and/or experience in handling of hazardous materials is desirable.
Other requirements include:
Must be bondable and able to work early morning, evening, holiday and weekend shifts in a dusty, windy environment without restrictions. Within a six (6) month probationary period must successfully complete four (4) weeks of full-time equivalent on-the-job training to prepare the employee to assume the full range of Weighmaster duties, as certified by senior supervisory staff.
Successful completion of classes in Customer Service Dispute/Conflict Resolution is desirable.
