The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Library Technology Consultant provides assistance with and instruction to the public on the use of library computers, electronic resources, printing, and audio-visual equipment. The Library Technology Consultant performs complicated tasks involving computer and audio-visual equipment, sensitive patron information, and handling money.

As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Under general supervision:

• Monitors the public’s use of computer equipment in the Technology Center, meeting rooms and throughout the library. 
• Provides individual and group technology instruction, including preparing and running technology classes at various City locations.
• Assists the public with the use of library computers, software and electronic resources; resolves problems and answers basic questions regarding computer, laptop & mobile device usage.
• Performs basic troubleshooting on Library self-checkout machines, scanners, and genealogy equipment.
• Monitors the use of technology equipment to deter theft and/or vandalism.
• Cleans and inspects computer equipment, replaces printer cartridges and printer paper.
• Maintains an inventory of computer supplies and peripheral devices; checks out peripheral devices to patrons; submits requests for replacements when needed.
• Oversees the Internet queuing system and monitors patrons’ time usage.
• Troubleshoots printer problems and Internet access problems involving patron cards.
• Assists patrons with payment for print jobs, photocopies & faxes, handles cash and credit cards.
• Accesses patron library accounts on library software.
• Configures and operates audio-visual equipment in conference rooms for meetings and/or public functions.  
• Configures and operates basic types of computer hardware and peripherals.
• Assists library users in connecting to the internet with mobile devices, WiFi hotspots, and laptop/Chromebook computers.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application.
• This position will be required to work on Sundays. Sunday hours will start January 2025, with 40 hours of training in November/December required for working on Sundays.

The Literacy Technology Assistant helps Read Santa Clara's adult learners gain basic digital literacy skills. The person helps adult learners 1:1 or in small groups learn how to use the literacy program's laptops and iPads as well as how to use literacy software on their own devices. The Literacy Technology Assistant may also be called on to support volunteer tutors or Read Santa Clara staff, as the need arises. The Literacy Technology Assistant is a patient, empathetic individual, who can teach basic technology skills to adults who have little or no digital literacy skills.

Typical Duties:

• Configure and operate Read Santa Clara's devices.
• Maintain the technology inventory, including keeping track of software subscriptions and licenses.
• Meet one-on-one with adult learners who need help with technology.
• Plan and conduct small group classes for learners on basic technology skills and literacy software.
• Check in and check out RSC devices to adult learners.
• Advise volunteers on how to effectively incorporate technology in literacy instruction and assist them as-needed with the online platform used to turn in monthly tutoring reports
• Write user-friendly instructions/create tutorial videos to help adult learners/tutors use literacy software.
• Record data and provide reports of sessions held with learners and tutors.
• Support Read Santa Clara staff, as needed, on specific literacy projects.

The City of San José is recruiting for a Business Automation and Development Services Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) in the Business Automation and Development Services Division of the Information Technology Department. The position requires a highly motivated and self-driven individual to lead a team responsible for the City's Permitting and Compliance System (Granicus GovService Amanda platform), Public Web Portal, Records Management System, Electronic Plan Review System (ProjectDox from Avolve), Business Intelligence System, Queue Management System, and Digital Inspection System. The position will oversee new technology implementations, enhancements, integrations, reports, and application upgrades for all Development Services systems. This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills, as well as the ability to take initiative and direct others in an ever-changing business and technical environment.

The ideal candidate will have solid information management experience, strong interpersonal and communication skills, strong management skills, strong collaboration skills, a commitment to customer service, and the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and issues. A team leader, team player, and positive attitude are essential to this position.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Understanding of Planning, Building, and Code Enforcement (PBCE) business processes inside a large municipality.
• Planning, organizing, scheduling, and coordinating work related to Development Services applications and systems, ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
• Providing advanced technical leadership to integrate complex existing or new information system technologies.
• Maintaining Development Services Technologies and technical documentation to high standards to support planning, building, code enforcement, fire prevention, and related services.
• Hiring, selecting, training, directing work assignments, and evaluating staff performance to accomplish tasks and established objectives.
• Acting as a technical expert, analyzing complex development services business needs, recommending technological solutions, and managing implementation of complex projects with other City departments, project teams, and agencies.

• Overseeing the creation and deployment of Power BI reports, Yellowfin reports, and Crystal Reports.
• Participating in all aspects of the software development cycle: Requirement Development, Planning, Design, Code, Test, Implementation, and Integration.

Please note that the Business Automation and Development Services Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) position is currently eligible for a hybrid telework schedule. The schedule for working remotely and onsite is subject to change.

Salary Information:The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

• Salary Range (including the 5% NPWI): $146,874.00 - $178,825.92

The Supervising Applications Analyst (SAA) classification is represented by the City Association of Management Personnel (CAMP) . Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field.

Experience: five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional/ level experience. in computer applications, systems, networks, or telecommunications work, of which at least two (2) years include the responsibility for the development, implementation, and maintenance of major communications or computer systems.

Acceptable Substitution

• Additional years of increasingly responsible directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
• Completion of a Master's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required two (2) years of experience include the responsibility for the development, implementation, and maintenance of major communications or computer systems.

The City of San José is hiring an Oracle Planning and Budgeting Cloud Services (PBCS) Technical Lead (Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst) to provide technical support for Oracle PBCS which is used to prepare the City's Capital, Operating, and Revenue Budgets. The PBCS Technical Lead will also support the three custom budget applications: Fees and Charges, Ordinance Tracking, and Budget to Finance ERP Interface and the Budget Office (BO). The BO is responsible for developing and managing the City's operating and capital budgets and service fees and charges. This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills, as well as the ability to take initiative and lead others. We are seeking an individual who is willing to adapt to an ever-changing environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong technical and functional background supporting Oracle PBCS and/or Oracle Hyperion Planning, and multi-dimensional databases with strong analytical skills. In addition, development experience using .NET Framework, Java, or JavaScript to effectively manage and support custom-developed applications is essential. Expertise should cover the entire system implementation lifecycle including gathering business requirements, creating functional and technical designs, application development, and administration.
Key duties include but are not limited to:

• Collaborating with the Budget Office to understand their Oracle PBCS requirements.
• Translating business requirements into technical solution designs.
• Developing new calculations and performance-tuning existing rules.

Salary Information: The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience. Education and Experience

A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field, AND four (4) years of progressively responsible professional/journey level experience, of which at least two (2) years of experience include lead technical work in development, implementation and maintenance of electronic business systems/solutions, or application development and/or support.

Acceptable Substitution

• Additional years of increasingly responsible directly related work experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.
• Completion of a Master's Degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required two (2) years of experience which include lead technical work in development, implementation and maintenance of electronic business systems/solutions or application development and/or support.
