ABOUT THE POSITION

The Executive Assistant/Deputy District Clerk independently performs a full range of highly responsible, confidential, and complex administrative duties to a small team of Executives. Additionally, this classification supports the District Clerk in preparing and delivering the District Board agenda packets, meeting notices, resolutions, and related materials;  coordinating District election processes; provides administrative support maintaining the District’s records management system; attends Board and Committee meetings and facilitates streaming technology; and functions as the District Clerk in their absence. You will be part of a high-performing  and dynamic team.  They are a small, hardworking team, consistent work product, great attitude, and fantastic customer service for both external and internal customers who work directly to supports Midpen’s mission to protect and restore the natural environment and contributes to providing nature’s benefits to everyone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The Executive Assistant/Deputy District Clerk will be required to attend evening Board/Committee meetings. Meetings may be held in Los Altos or offsite.  This position is part of the General Manager’s office at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by two (2) years of college-level coursework in business or secretarial science and
• Three (3) years of responsible secretarial experience involving assisting executive management or a high-level officials with administrative duties.

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

Position Duties

The Fleet Management Division in Public Works Department is responsible for the management of the City’s fleet including the comprehensive inspection, maintenance, repair, acquisition, and disposal. The City’s vehicle and equipment fleet currently consists of over 2,700 assets. 

The Department of Public Works Fleet Management Division is recruiting to fill one (1) Equipment Mechanic Assistant I/II (EMA I/II) position. The EMA I/II is responsible for performing inspections, communicating with other staff and customers, servicing, installation of electronic electrical equipment, ordering parts, entering data in the fleet management system, road testing and diagnosing problems to make various repairs and adjustments on automotive, heavy truck and/or heavy equipment. While working under general supervision, the EMA I/II will be expected to perform safely and follow all rules required by the City of San Jose. These positions, depending on facility assignment, will require working various shift hours and overtime.

Located in many remote areas of the Santa Cruz and Diablo Mountain ranges in the beautiful Santa Clara Valley, this unique opportunity as a new Valley Water Hydrographer I employee offers work assignment variability non-typical of other standard Hydrographer positions and long-term job fulfillment in a fun, relaxed atmosphere while offering a competitive salary/benefit package. The new position supports the allocated $2 million Hydrologic Data Measurement and Management Project within the Hydrology, Hydraulics, and Geomorphology Unit which provides basic modeling calibration Surface Water data for Valley Water’s Flood Control and Groundwater Recharge programs, and many other internal/external customers. This entry level Hydrographer I position is required to support continuing expansion of the current 210 location surface water monitoring network including new gages for SB88 water rights reporting, and Water Supply Operations requirements.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Operating and maintaining stream/reservoir/precipitation/water temperature stations including installation, calibrating, operating, troubleshooting, and repairing electronic dataloggers/sensors and radio telemetry.
• Performing stream flow measurements in all ranges of flow to create, update, and maintain stream flow rating curves.
• Obtain, process, compute, analyze, interpret, and evaluate hydrologic data while operating and maintaining a specialized hydrologic database and completing an annual station record.
• Respond to requests for information from internal/external customers including engineers, consultants, other public agencies, and the general public.
• Performing surveying at stream gaging stations utilizing differential leveling.
• Provide support in emergency preparedness functions; participate in emergency drills, earthquake response testing and other emergency operations.  Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the hydrologic data field.

Ideal Experience:

• One (1) year of experience in gathering and analyzing hydrologic data.
• Hydrographer experience utilizing USGS policy/procedures.
• Learning in operation/maintenance of stream gages, stream gaging in all flow ranges, and compiling an annual stream gage record.  
• Proven track record of working independently and in a team environment.

Ideal Skills and Abilities:

• Learn to operate and maintain field equipment for gathering and analyzing hydrologic data.
• Learn methods and techniques involved in gathering and analyzing data related to surface water use.
• Learn to operate and maintain a specialized application interfacing a hydrologic database. for inputting and analyzing hydrologic data.
• Aware of applicable federal, state, and local policies, laws, and regulations.
• Read and interpret maps, charts, graphs, plans, drawings, schematics, and diagrams.
• Respond to information from Valley Water employees and outside customers.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ideal Knowledge:

• Some knowledge of basic principles and theories of hydrology, geology, and meteorology
• Some knowledge of scientific data collection and proper field notes .
• An introduction to operational characteristics of mechanical current meters and/or acoustic flow measurement devices, telemetering equipment, and other mechanical and electronic devices.
• Principles of sciences/mathematics including algebra and trigonometry.
• Principles of analytical report preparation.
• State Senate Bill 88 (measuring and reporting the diversion of water).

Training and Education:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in engineering, geology, hydrology, hydraulics, sciences, or a related field.

Hydrology, Hydraulics and Geomorphology Unit (Position Code 281)

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to live within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for an Accounting Division Manager to join the Finance Department. The Accounting Division Manager leads a team of 10.5 Full Time Equivalent positions and plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the activities of the accounting division which includes functions such as all aspects of accounting services, accounts payable, accounts receivable and debt and investment management. This position is also responsible for regulatory federal and state reporting, acts as the staff liaison with external auditors, leads the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), and provides highly complex staff assistance to the Director of Finance.

The Department: 

The Department of Public Works (DPW) constructs, maintains and improves various components of the City’s infrastructure providing quality, cost-effective, and timely services for the residents and businesses of Santa Clara. Acceptable Substitution: 

Course completion from an accredited institution or an appropriate trade school, or technical coursework from an accredited institution, in diesel or gasoline-powered mechanics leading to an Associate degree or journey level certification may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience.

Desirable Qualification: 

Possession of a valid California Class A driver's license with Air Brake Test is highly desirable.

License/Certifications: 

• Possession of an appropriate, valid California class C driver's license is required at time of appointment.
• Possession and maintenance of the following State of California Licenses and Certificates is required prior to completion of the probationary period:

                               Class A California driver's license with air brake test
                               ASE Certifications-A, A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 and A9 or L1 or L3

• Incumbents shall be required to obtain and maintain any other license(s) and/or certificate(s) that may be required by future regulation for the performance of listed typical tasks.

Other Requirements:
