The salary range for Staff Specialist is approximately $76,330.80 - $92,820.00 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

This is a class-based recruitment. Staff Specialists perform paraprofessional administrative work of considerable complexity in various areas of public administration. An employee in this class performs a variety of administrative assignments related to the execution of administrative detail and assisting in departmental administrative service areas. A Staff Specialist may act as a lead to lower-level clerical classifications but is primarily an individual contributor with a high level of expertise in generalized office administration.
Typical duties and results may include:

• • Create surveys and compile data for general or departmental use; perform statistical and clerical work by creating, analyzing and preparing reports, and abstract written materials.
  • Participate in budget preparation and review by assembling and analyzing data of operating departments, such as staffing and equipment requests.
  • Provide assistance with personnel functions such as position control, interviewing, benefits, handling routine grievances, disciplinary actions, classification matters, claims, employee relations, and interpretation of personnel rules and procedures.
  • Supervise the maintenance of files and records, including automated recordkeeping systems; developing filing systems and procedures for file use; and ensure irretrievability of filed information.

Planning, Building and Code Enforcement position:

The Public Information team works closely in support of each of the Department's divisions to provide information to the public and within the organization. ?The Department is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Public Information Manager. As the Public Information Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing public information strategies to effectively disseminate information to the public, media, and other stakeholders regarding the department's operations, policies, and initiatives.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent writing and presentation skills and have substantial experience with developing and executing effective communication plans using a wide range of appropriate tactics, including traditional and new media. Valley Water is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the Strategic Programs Administrator position within the Office of Integrated Water Management reporting to the Assistant Chief Executive Officer. The Strategic Programs Administrator serves as a strategic right-hand to the Assistant CEO helping to develop and maintain key agency-wide processes and procedures and oversee strategic projects and special initiatives. The ideal candidate will possess a unique blend of expertise in project management, financial analysis, and policy development. To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, water meters, sewers, storm drains, pump stations and tree maintenance. 

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position should have previous Road Maintenance experience; sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, arrive on time, have good attendance, a positive attitude, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and a willingness to take on and learn new skills. Possessing a Class B commercial Driver’s license is desired, though not required upon hire. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, rubber-tired and steel rollers, rubber-tired tractor with all attachments (except backhoe attachment), striping equipment, and trencher in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.  Use concrete cutting equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Paint and install traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck; manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Install and remove traffic control barricades and cones.  Assist in a variety of tree maintenance activities including low limb, stump routing, tree watering, and tree planting.  Utilize proper safety precautions and comply with policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquiries from the general public.  Clean storm grates and drains.  Perform work in emergency situations as required.  Perform minor and preventive maintenance on paint spraying equipment, compressors, sprayers, compactors, and other construction equipment.  Work cooperatively with others.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of work experience in construction or related field.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.  Class B permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three months of hire.  A valid Class B California driver's license, Completion of Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR Certifications required prior to permanent appointment.

BENEFITS

POSITION

Depending on assignment, essential duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Removal and clearing of debris from gutters, culverts, and drainage structures.

• Perform meter and meter box maintenance functions to improve meter readability; test meters for proper operations; perform meter replacements and minor meter repair work.
• Assist Utilities Division with water and sewer maintenance and repair efforts, such as manholes, fire hydrants, valves, meters, vaults, boxes, and lids.
• Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of beach facilities, including dumping trash cans, picking up debris along waterline, cleaning rest rooms, driving 4-wheel drive trucks on beach, performing minor plumbing and building maintenance, removing graffiti, painting, hand-picking litter and other related duties as assigned.

THE POSITION

Reporting to the Director of Administrative Services, the Management Analyst (Risk Management) provides professional support to risk management programs including: workers' compensation, safety compliance, review and approval of contracts and Certificates of Insurance, risk transfer, and leave and disability administration. 

In addition, you will have the opportunity to coordinate and oversee workers' compensation claims management including monitoring accepted claims and providing information to claimants, attorneys, and the workers' compensation carrier. You will also serve as a consultant to City departments and employees on Risk Management (workers' compensation, safety, contract insurance) problems and communicate regularly with internal and external parties to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of assigned programs and activities, minimize risk, and advise of claim developments. Licenses and Certifications

The District 8 Council Office, supporting Councilmember Domingo Candelas, is recruiting for a Chief of Staff position. The position will work closely with the Councilmember and lead the staff support team for the Councilmember. The Chief of Staff is an integral link between the Councilmember and the Mayor and City Council colleagues, City administration, and the community. The Chief of Staff must have excellent oral and written communication skills, effective organizational, analytical, and management skills, and a dedication to public service. The position requires the ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with community members and neighborhood organizations, key stakeholders, and City staff. The Chief of Staff will serve as a liaison to the Councilmember and will regularly represent the Councilmember at City-related meetings and functions. The Office of Racial Equity is hiring an Assistant to the City Manager position to serve as the Inclusion and Belonging Manager for the City of San José.
