THE POSITION

The Facility Attendant will greet visitors to the Joan Pisani Community Center or other City facilities and serve as the first point of contact during evening and weekend activities and rentals. The ideal candidate should enjoy working with people and have an interest in serving the public.

The position will typically work on two or three weekday evenings (Mon.-Fri.), approximately 5:00-9:30 pm, two Saturdays each month (approximately 6 hours, daytime or evening), and occasional Sundays (daytime or evening); A typical schedule will be about 13-18 hours per week. Specific work schedule to be determined, and will be variable based on the weekly facility program schedule.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide friendly and professional customer service by means of greeting Community Center users, serving as main point of contact during activities and events, and maintaining a consistent presence for users at all times.
• Explain and follow City and department policies and procedures.
• May assist user group with indoor or outdoor event set up and take down of equipment and/or furniture such as tables, chairs, podiums, and A/V equipment.
• Locks and unlocks facility doors; secures buildings.
• Updates attendance sheets, tally sheets and user status sheets.
• May perform clean up duties as needed, including but not limited to: move and arrange furniture and equipment, restroom cleaning, sweeping and mopping, and garbage pick-up and removal.

The San José Public Library System has numerous libraries throughout the City. We hire Library Pages for each of these locations, and for our Library Page Substitute Pool.  Library Pages selected for specific locations are normally scheduled to work approximately an average of 16 hours per week, on a year round regular basis. Library Pages selected for our Substitute Pool are scheduled to work at various locations as needed. The days and hours assigned will vary depending on which location you are assigned to and the scheduling needs of that branch/unit.  Most Library Pages will be required to work some evenings and weekends. 

Library Pages are responsible for providing direct customer service, filing materials on the shelves quickly and accurately so that customers can locate the items easily, providing assistance at the customer service desk, assisting in maintaining an orderly and welcoming environment by monitoring the facility, answering questions from customers in person or over the phone, explaining library policies and procedures, conducting basic searches on library catalogues, checking materials in/out, helping customers register for a borrower's card, collecting fines, interacting with and working well with other team members. 

These positions require pushing or pulling carts loaded with materials; packing, unpacking and transporting shipment boxes; reaching, bending, and stooping to put materials on low and high shelves; actively moving for several hours at a time, retrieving items from deep bins, and standing for periods of time.

City of Gilroy is recruiting for seasonal Lifeguard II/Instructors for the 2020 Summer Season. GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Pool Manager, and/or the Assistant Pool Manager, the Lifeguard II/Instructor is responsible for instructing youth and adults with basic to advanced swimming skills, supervising the safety of participants during recreational swimming, and enforce pool safety and sanitation rules whenever the pool facility is in use.  Employees in this classification instruct and supervise the participants in the summer aquatics program. This is a temporary/seasonal position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

1. Observe pool areas to insure cleanliness and safe, proper use of facilities and equipment.
2. Maintain constant surveillance over pool users to ensure that they conduct themselves in a manner so as not to endanger themselves or others.
3. Enforce pool rules and regulations as they pertain to pool users.
4. Perform rescues, administer first aid, perform CPR with AED and summon supervisors and emergency personnel as required for injuries or other medical emergencies.
5. Administers practical swim tests to determine participants’ skill level.
6. Complete report cards and certificates at the completion of each swim class.
7. Work at multiple, outdoor locations and in the water in variable temperatures and weather conditions.
8. Compile written report to document rescues, injuries, and other incidents as required.
9. Keep daily activity logs of rescues and other incidents involving the administration of first aid and enforcement of pool rules.
10. When not on lifeguard duty performing safety supervision functions, will provide swim lessons, water safety instructions or similar duties in accordance with Red Cross guidelines.
11. Plan and implement lesson plans.
12. Communicates to Manager and/or Assistant Manager any problems that take attention away from guarding pool.
13. Directs use of equipment, including diving board, games, special event equipment.
14. Set-up pool area and cleanup after instruction.
15. Develop positive relationships with pool users to ensure cooperation with pool rules and positive public relations.
16. Assist in the closure of swimming pool areas as warranted.
17. Participate in related training programs and staff meetings.
18. Perform related work as required

City of Gilroy is recruiting for seasonal Head Lifeguards for the 2020 Summer Season.  The main goal of the Recreation Department is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide-range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of the Recreation (Aquatics) Coordinator, Pool Manager, and/or the Assistant Pool Manager, is responsible for instructing youth and adults with basic to advanced swimming skills, supervising the safety of participants during recreational swimming, and enforce pool safety and sanitation rules whenever the pool facility is in use.  Employees in this classification instruct and supervise the participants in the summer aquatics program. This is a seasonal position.  Employees selected as a Head Lifeguard are classified as a Lifeguard II and assigned additional Head Lifeguard duties.  Head Lifeguard is a special assignment position and employees in this special assignment may shift to Lifeguard II at the discretion of the Recreation (Aquatics) Coordinator at any time.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES HEAD LIFEGUARD:

1. Be a leader among the Aquatic Team
2. Assist with staff in-service trainings
3. Under the supervision of the MODs, assist with office duties – collecting daily fees, entering money in Active, managing snack shack
4. Support the MOD during operation as needed
5. Cover a lunch break for a MOD
6. Assist with the management and operation of private swim lessons
7. Assist with managing group lessons
8. Lead opening and closing duties and delegate job assignments to other staff and volunteers
9. Assign the opening lifeguard rotation
10. Mentor and assist with the supervision of Jr. Guard Volunteers
11. Attend weekly MOD meetings
12. Assist the MODs in conducting red-cap drills (unannounced test of lifeguard’s skills – could be a rescue or first aid situation
13. Perform the duties of a Lifeguard II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under the direct supervision of the Pool Manager and/or Recreation (Aquatics) Coordinator and indirect supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, plan, organize and direct the physical, educational, recreational and social activities of the Summer Aquatics Programs. The Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for supervising aquatic staff in the absence of the Pool Manager and aiding the Pool Manager in evaluating the aquatics staff. This is a temporary/seasonal position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

1. Maintain constant surveillance over pool users and staff to ensure they conduct themselves in a manner so as not to endanger themselves or others.
2. Enforce pool rules and regulations as they pertain to pool users and staff.
3. Observe pool areas to ensure cleanliness and safe, proper use of facilities and equipment.
4. Assists the Pool Manager in the collection of all fees, prepares daily records of receipts and deposits same in accordance with agency policies.
5. Participate in and assist the Recreation (Aquatics) Coordinator and Pool Manager in related training programs and staff meetings. Assist in training aquatics personnel.
6. Assist the Pool Manager in planning, organizing and directing a wide variety of programs and activities to meet the recreational, education, physical and social needs of the community.
7. Assist the Pool Manager with supervising, scheduling, directing and evaluating aquatics personnel, including Lifeguards II, Lifeguards I, cashiers and volunteers in the instruction of lessons, recreational swim and special events.
8. Assist the Pool Manager with managing private and semi-private swim lesson instruction.
9. Assists the Pool Manager with the Junior Lifeguard Volunteer Program.
10. Assists the Pool Manager with the execution of outdoor pool parties (set-up, hosting and clean-up).
11. Assist staff in performing rescues, administering first aid, performing CPR, using an AED and summoning supervisors and emergency personnel as required for injuries or other medical emergencies. Follow the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) as it relates to injuries on waterslides.
12. Maintains, analyzes and submits pertinent records in respect to daily patron admissions and revenue, sanitary water conditions (chlorine and pH readings), accidents, rescues and assists, and first aid.
13. Ensure parent evaluations are distributed and collected at the end of each swim session for all classes taught.
14. Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

City of Gilroy is recruiting for a seasonal Pool Cashier/Registration Assistant for the 2020 Summer Season. The main goal of the Recreation Department is to offer excellent recreation programs that provide community members with a wide-range of opportunities to celebrate life and community through people, parks, programs, and special events which are delivered by a team of employees dedicated to offering quality recreational, social, and cultural services to all Gilroy residents.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Under direct supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator, Pool Manager and/or Assistant Manager, performs basic cashiering duties and varied clerical work of average difficulty as needed to facilitate swim lesson participant registration and fee collection for recreational swimming program.

Please note:

• Summer Aquatics Program would like all staff to begin employment on May 1, 2020 for training and work shifts on Saturdays and Sundays.
• Staff who are unable to begin work on May 1 will begin employment on June 8.
• Applicants who can commit to the entire season (May 1 – August 14) will be given preference.
• All staff beginning employment on May 1 must attend HR Orientation on April 27, 28 or 29.
