THE POSITIONTo perform a wide variety of general clerical and administrative duties for a City department; and assist the public. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy in the Public Works Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The Ideal Candidate for this position must be a “team player” with excellent customer service skills. Candidate must be able to learn the complex duties of public works quickly and work independently. Candidate will be responsible for overseeing programs that affect public health and safety, as well as strict local, state and federal permit requirements. The Ideal candidate must be detail oriented, organized, professional, and be able to manage their time efficiently and work well with both internal and external customers. The Ideal candidate must also be able to learn new software on a regular basis and be able to articulate if there are issues with the new systems.
WORK HOURS
This position will be required to work onsite during the hours of 7:00AM - 4:00PM (Monday through Friday). Regular and consistent attendance is a must.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Administrative Clerk II: This is the journey level class in the series and is distinguished from the I level by the ability to perform the full range of duties assigned with only occasional instruction or assistance.
Provides excellent customer service; answer telephone and direct callers; receive visitors at a public counter and identify a variety of needs; provide information on department policies and procedures as appropriate; schedules appointments. Performs a wide variety of routine clerical work including filing, billing, checking and recording information on records, maintaining logs for assigned functions. Type, proofread and process a variety of complex and/or sensitive documents including general correspondence, memos, and charts from rough draft or verbal instruction. Enter and retrieve data from on-line or stand-alone computer systems; operate computer systems to generate reports and perform other automated processes. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Gather information from individuals or reference sources to complete and process various forms, records and applications; compile routine information and data for statistical and financial reports as assigned. Receive, sort and distribute incoming and outgoing correspondence. Issue, receive, type and process various applications, permits and other forms. Accept payment of fees; maintain and process cash records, disburse petty cash funds, and perform related basic computations. Maintain records and process forms, such as time records, purchase requisitions and orders, and other specific to the organizational unit. Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Licenses and Certifications: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California driver’s license

Future Salary COLAs:
4% increase (eff July 2024), 1% increase (eff January 2025), 4% increase (eff July 2025) and 1% increase (eff January 2026)
Retirement:
CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members). The City does not participate in social security
Deferred Comp:
Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth) with 1% City-match effective July 2024. After successful completion of probation, new hires are also eligible for a 2% City contribution.
Medical:
CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Allowance (2024): $2,463.99 per month
Dental/Vision:
City paid Delta Dental and VSP Vision Benefits
LTD/STD:
City paid wage protection for long/short term disabilities
Life Insurance:
City provides $50,000 life insurance policy
