AHA is seeking a Facilities and Maintenance Technician I to perform a range maintenance and alterations on Housing Authority buildings and facilities, HVAC, and other electrical and mechanical systems; identifying and evaluating construction-related problems; performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems; conducting property inspections, and coordinating with vendors on maintenance replacement and repair projects. To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, water meters, sewers, storm drains, pump stations and tree maintenance.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position should have previous Road Maintenance experience; sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, arrive on time, have good attendance, a positive attitude, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and a willingness to take on and learn new skills. Possessing a Class B commercial Driver’s license is desired, though not required upon hire. 

Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series.  Positions in this class will usually perform most of the duties required of Maintenance Workers I and II; however, as compared to the Maintenance Worker II, is not expected to function at the same skill level and will usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Maintenance Worker II:

This is the journey level in the Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent perform more complex maintenance duties, including the requirement to meet all Standby Program requirements, take standby duty, to work any shift, weekends, and holidays.  This incumbent Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, rubber-tired and steel rollers, rubber-tired tractor with all attachments (except backhoe attachment), striping equipment, and trencher in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.  Use concrete cutting equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Paint and install traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck; manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Install and remove traffic control barricades and cones.  Assist in a variety of tree maintenance activities including low limb, stump routing, tree watering, and tree planting.  Utilize proper safety precautions and comply with policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquiries from the general public.  Clean storm grates and drains.  Perform work in emergency situations as required.  Perform minor and preventive maintenance on paint spraying equipment, compressors, sprayers, compactors, and other construction equipment.  Work cooperatively with others.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of work experience in construction or related field.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.  Class B permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three months of hire.  A valid Class B California driver's license, Completion of Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR Certifications required prior to permanent appointment.

Maintenance Worker II

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Maintenance Worker I.

License and Certificate:  Possession of all certifications required of the Maintenance Worker I and a valid Class B California driver's license with Air Brake and Tank Endorsements required upon hire.  Possession of Railroad Worker Safety certification and Forklift certification is required prior to permanent appointment.

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for two regular, full-time positions of Maintenance Worker II assigned to the Parks and Facilities Division of the Public Works Department.

THE POSITION

This position works in parks and open space maintenance.   Under general supervision, the incumbent is expected to perform the full array of duties assigned at the journey level of the Maintenance Worker class series.  The work includes maintenance, construction and equipment operation work in the Parks and Facilities division, occasionally assist in the training of lower level Maintenance Workers, and perform other related duties as required.

A successful candidate will have experience performing municipal parks maintenance.  Training in maintenance, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, natural resource management, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, janitorial or related is desirable.  The Department is seeking a candidate who:

• Understands the principles, methods and techniques of park operations and maintenance.
• Has knowledge and experience using the materials, tools and equipment needed in the construction, maintenance and repair of park facilities.
• Practices safety principles.
• Understands methods of planning and scheduling time, labor and materials necessary for the care of park equipment, irrigation systems and landscaped areas.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker II is the journey-level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

THE POSITIONS

Under direct supervision, the Public Service Assistant II will perform litter/trash pick-up, barbeque maintenance, leaf/debris pick-up, and miscellaneous park duties in Central Park and other community parks.  The Public Service Assistant II will also perform related duties as assigned.
 
WORK SCHEDULE

The positions work up to a full-time schedule of 40 hours per week and may be required to work a regular shift that includes evening and weekend hours. These temporary assignments are limited to 999 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).
