The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant Fire Inspector in the Fire Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to work in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Division and help administer special projects aimed at assisting residents with defensible space, hazardous vegetation cleanup, and preparing for wildfire. This position also plays an important role in grant-funded projects, program management, and outreach events as well as fulfilling technical work required. This is a unique opportunity to engage with the community to create meaningful, measurable results that increase public safety and preparedness.  

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and one year of experience in fire, building, or code enforcement inspections in a paid professional, internship, or volunteer capacity. Municipal experience desirable.

Other desirable qualifications include: Completion of California State Fire Marshal's Fire Prevention 1A, 1B, and 1C courses; Fire Inspector 1A, 1B, 1C, and 1D; or International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I; Associate’s degree in fire science, emergency management, fire protection engineering, environmental science, ecosystem management, public policy, public administration, or related field.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to: 

• Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents 

• Competitive review and assessment of applicants' education, training, and experience 

• Assessment Center tentatively scheduled for the week of November 4, 2024 

• Written Exercise (50%) 

• Oral Board Interview (50%)

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Assistant to the City Attorney! In this role, you will provide highly responsible and specialized administrative and analytical and support within the City Attorney’s Office. You'll perform sensitive, complex, and difficult analytical work as a member of the City Attorney’s staff, including providing analytical support on issues that have significant city or community implications.

Duties may include budget preparation and administration, contract negotiation and administration, and policy research and analysis. You may also provide more routine administrative support to the City Attorney as needed.

The Assistant to the City Attorney has considerable latitude to exercise independent judgment, particularly when representing the City Attorney’s Office in meetings with other agencies, boards, commissions, and community groups.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in business administration, public administration, or related field and four (4) years of increasingly responsible analytical experience that included the development and administration of programs. Government experience desirable.

Must be willing and able to attend evening meetings. Specified positions may require possession of a valid California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record.
