THE POSITION

Under general supervision, Administrative Technicians perform a variety of technical duties and provides administrative support to a department or division's highly specialized programs and/or projects; assist with program monitoring and evaluation; research, gather, and interpret data, including statistical data; conduct program outreach; perform inter‑disciplinary policy‑related research; and perform other duties as assigned.

One vacancy exists in the Housing & Human Service Division. Examples of duties for this position includes:

• Assists with the coordination and implementation of the City’s Housing and Human Services Strategic Plan goals and objectives.

• Conducts public outreach and facilitates workshops.
• Assists with preparing grant monitoring reports to federal, state and local agencies.

• Works with the City’s financial and legal departments to develop and execute various agreements.

The City of Berkeley is now accepting applications for Assistant Inspector in the Building & Safety Division of the Planning Department! This is a temporary, two-year position with an option for a third year upon approval by the Building Official, once certain criteria and milestones are met during the initial two years.

The Assistant Inspector will learn, in phases, every aspect of the building inspection process under the tutelage of the Building Inspection Section and Permit Service Center staff. This training will include learning and understanding the building permit review and issuance process, gaining and cultivating good customer service skills, studying and learning how to enforce the California and City of Berkeley Building Standards Codes, and acquiring proper building inspection techniques.

Upon approval from the Building Official, the Assistant Inspector will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by performing inspections in the field throughout the City of Berkeley as allowed by State regulations and under the guidance of a Building Inspector as assigned. These inspections will gradually increase in scope and difficulty as new skills and knowledge are acquired and confidence grows. It is expected that the Assistant Inspector will acquire an ICC Residential Building Inspector (ICC B1) certification by the end of year one and an ICC Commercial Building Inspector (ICC B2) certification by the end of the two-year position. At the end of the term and upon Building Official approval, the Assistant Inspector will have the option of promoting into the role of Building Inspector I (certified).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and:

1. Two years of full-time paid experience in one of the following: 
   • Building, civil, or architectural design drafting;
   • Building, housing, or home inspection;
   • Code enforcement;
   • Permit processing;
   • Performing carpentry, electrical, heating and refrigeration, plumbing, or similar work; OR
2. Three years of full-time experience in support of building inspections, housing inspections, or code enforcement; OR
3. Completion of two years of education in a recognized college or university with completion of 12 semester or 16 quarter units in any of the following or similar areas: civil or structural engineering, construction technology, design, inspection technology, architectural drafting, mechanical or, electrical engineering.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill job responsibilities. When driving on city business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

Parks Planning and Design Manager Class Specification

Definition
Under administrative direction, plans, organizes, manages, and directs the activities of the Landscape Architecture Division; serves as a key staff member in the administration, development, and implementation of policies, systems, and procedures to facilitate the implementation of the City’s Park Master Plan; oversees and directs the supervision and activities of citywide tree preservation and landscape development policies; and gives professional advice on landscape matters.

Class Characteristics 
This is a single position management classification reporting to the Community Services Director.  The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of department policy as it relates to division activities and follows general guidelines or professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments; the incumbent is expected to identify policy issues and work with other staff to develop options and recommend solutions.  This classification is distinguished from the Senior Landscape Architect by the latter’s responsibility to manage the staff and activities of one or more sections of the Landscape Architecture Division.

• Plans, organizes, and oversees the landscape, site design and layout of parks, recreational areas, city facilities, roadway medians, and pedestrian ways.
• Acts as the City(s) Landscape Architect in the review, revision, implementation and interpretation of City tree and landscape ordinances, regulations, and policies.
• Directs and participates in analysis of park planning efforts and park site acquisition for compliance with the Park and Recreation master Plan and the Park and Recreation Chapter of the General Plan.
• Plans, supervises, reviews and evaluates the work of professional City and contract staff.
• Trains staff in work procedures.
• Provides policy guidance and interpretation to staff.
• Recommends design direction on high-profile urban design of public and private projects that impact landscape design and urban projects within the City.
• Manages the Park Planning and Development Plan for the City.
• Provides staff support and recommendation alternatives to the Recreation Commission and City Council in park planning policy and implementation of facility development.
• Recommends modifications to ordinances, policies and procedures and implements after approval.
• Performs professional landscape architectural work including preparing landscape plans, coordinating master plan development, and performing park planning and preparing related specifications, contracts, and cost estimates.
• Reviews and approves landscape proposals for private development, ensuring compliance with codes, policies, regulations and procedures.
• Prepares reports.
• Recommends approval or denial of various projects for submission to the Planning Commission and/or the City Council.
• Directs the inspection of and/or inspects public and private landscaping work for conformance with plans, specifications and ordinances.
• Administers and implements the Tree Preservation Ordinance, including recommending approval or denial of permits for tree removal.
• Administers the tree planting program, including maintenance of the street tree master plan, botanical designation, inspection of plantings, issuance of permits for planting, removal, and pruning.
• Serves as technical adviser to other City departments and officials on park, street tree and landscape matters.
• Reviews and analyzes federal, state and local landscape and water legislation and its implementation in the City of Fremont.
• Participates as a team member in the work of the department’s management team, understanding and then implementing assigned duties and responsibilities to support team goals and objectives.  
• Works cooperatively with other team members, receiving and sharing information, soliciting input, identifying operational and interpersonal issues, participating in the development of problem solving solutions.
• Acts as the City's representative in dealing with public and private agencies, groups and individuals concerned with parks and open space, trees, and landscape.
• Conducts park location studies to evaluate park site feasibility and proposed land acquisition and/or development.
• Responds to public requests and complaints regarding landscape development and tree preservation.
• Coordinates the work of the division with that of other departments and divisions.
• Maintains accurate records and files.
• Supervises the preparation of clear and effective reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, ordinances and other written materials.

Education/Experience
 Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge and skills necessary to satisfactory job performance would be qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills would be:  Education and/or experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Landscape Architecture, Park Planning, Horticulture, or closely related field and five years of experience in professional landscape architecture, park planning or park management.  A Master’s degree is desirable.

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda is accepting applications for the position of Courtroom Clerk I. Under general supervision, the Courtroom Clerk I records and prepares minutes of all types of court proceedings; resolves workflow and other technical and procedural problems within the courtroom; enters and retrieves information from automated and manual record keeping systems; and performs other related duties as assigned.

This is the trainee and entry-level class in the Courtroom Clerk series. The Courtroom Clerk I receives formalized and on-the-job training in the techniques and procedures of courtroom work. Progression to Courtroom Clerk II requires demonstration of proficiency in functioning independently in a variety of courtroom settings and in performing the full range of duties expected of a Courtroom Clerk.

A new eligibility list will be established to fill Courtroom Clerk I vacancies at various court locations. Courtroom Clerks may be assigned or reassigned to various locations within the County and work between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., as determined by the business needs of the Court.

9. Participates in training to ensure competency in providing services in all case types; and assists in cross-training co-workers as needed.
10. Provides coverage for courtroom clerks in departments and locations other than primary assigned as needed.
11. Assists in the Clerk's Offices as needed when court is not in session.
12. Operates electronic equipment such as communication, recording and duplicating devices when required.

Option I

The equivalent to two years of full-time experience as a Legal Processing Assistant with the Superior Court of California, County of Alameda.

or Option II

Possession of an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree or equivalent to two years of college coursework with 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university.

And

The equivalent to two years of full-time increasingly responsible clerical experience in a banking, court, education, health care, law enforcement, legal, probation or social services environment.

Additional qualifying work experience as described above may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. One year (2080 hours) of additional qualifying work experience will be considered equivalent to 30 semester units/45 quarter units.

The City of Berkeley invites applications for the position of Housing Inspector II (Certified)! In this role, you will perform skilled inspection work with City residential housing inspection programs. You will independently perform the full scope of work in the investigation, reporting and follow-up of housing deficiencies to gain compliance with housing, building, zoning, fire, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related codes and regulations.

Assignments are varied and generally require close interaction with the public, providing information and interpretation of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations. Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities.
