DEFINITION

Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Site Supervisor is responsible for the implementation and organization of activities within the Summer Fun program, supervises Recreation Leaders, Junior Recreation Leaders and program participants and enforces all facility rules and regulations effectively.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Work with part-time staff to plan, organize and implement daily and weekly recreation activities for children in a wide variety of program areas.
• Report to jobsite 15 minutes prior to program’s start time.
• Requisition all needed supplies and equipment on a weekly basis.
• Inspect all designated play areas and equipment for unsafe conditions prior to participant’s arrival each day.
• Supervise and lead daily recreation activities such as arts & crafts, games, nature, music, etc.
• Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe and healthful manner and that the site is left clean and ready for the next day’s activities.
• Ensure that all daily and weekly reports are completed and turned in on time.
• Coordinate work schedules and review time cards before submitting to Recreation Division for approval.
• Record weekly attendance and prepare weekly calendar.
• Evaluate daily programs and part-time staff in the performance of their duties and responsibilities.
• Attend all designated meetings and trainings.
• Perform other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of two years of experience working with children between the ages of 5-12.
• Minimum of one year in a supervisory position in an organized recreation or childcare environment.
• Possess knowledge of the techniques and methods of planning recreation activities for children.
• First Aid and C.P.R. Certified before the start of the program.
• Completion of Mandated Reporting Training immediately after start date.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Able to work weekends and evening hours or on an “on-call” basis.

• Work well with the Recreation Staff, volunteers and the public.
• Experience in playing fast pitch softball, slow-pitch softball, or baseball.
• Experience as a Youth Sports Official is desired.

DEFINITION:

Under general direction to plan, develop, and implement assigned city wide recreation programs of average difficulty involving supervision of support staff and to perform other related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Incumbents in this position have considerable independence in selection work methods of procedures.  Instructions given by the Recreation Supervisor generally do not provide all of the information needed to complete the assignment. The JR Giants Co-Commissioner is expected to resolve most problems confronted through the application of judgment and precedent, referring only those which involve the establishment of new procedures or which involve solutions that are inconsistent with departmental procedures and policies to the Recreation Supervisor. 

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

A junior Giants Co-Commissioner is responsible for the complete organization of the league in his or her area. Organizing a league includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Act as the liaison to the Giants Community Fund.
• Communicate regularly with Community fund staff on the league’s activities.
• Locally oversee the league’s Ambassador and assign him/her appropriate responsibilities.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

• Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles and a responsible driving record.

• CPR certified.

DEFINITION:

Under general supervision, is responsible for the safety of swimmers; enforcement of regulations, pool maintenance and swimming instruction at a municipally-operated swimming pool.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Provide swim instruction.
• Conduct rescue operations.
• Conduct classes in various phases of swimming.
• Administer CPR and First Aid.
• Direct communication and contact with swimmers and the general public.
• Maintain discipline in and around swimming pool.

DEFINITION

Under the direction of assigned Site Supervisor, assists in the provision of recreational activities for small or large groups of children. Job duties will take place in a recreational setting to plan and implement recreational activities such as sports, arts and crafts, and special events. Performs a variety of clerical duties as assigned.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of daily and weekly activities.
• Provide support to a Site Supervisor by setting up work areas, displays and exhibits, operating audio and visual equipment, operate educational training equipment, distribute, and collect papers and supplies.
• Attend in-service training sessions and other meetings as required.
• Supervise and lead daily activities for children.
• Assist in the inspection of all playground areas and equipment for unsafe conditions on a daily basis.
• Assist in supervising students in the facility, on the playground, or while on field trips.
• Assist in the preparation and distribution of student meals as assigned; perform light housekeeping duties as required.
• Assist in the completion of daily attendance/activity reports.
• Assist students in the building of self-esteem and development of a value system by providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.

RECREATION LEADER

Open until filled – two positions available

Summary Description

Under the direction of the Senior Recreation Leader or an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Recreation Leader is responsible for assisting in organizing and leading activities for children and adults in the City’s recreation programs including youth and adult programs, aquatics programs and senior programs; or when assigned to site responsibilities, monitoring the public and private use of city-owned facilities. Such use may include, but is not limited to, meetings, weddings, parties, dances, recreational events, etc. This position will provide excellent customer service both internally and externally at all times and can require set-up and clean-up for scheduled activities.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

When assigned to Recreation Activities

1. Implement all daily activities of the program as assigned, including carrying out program schedule, participating in all program activities, monitoring and enforcing rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.
2. Assist Senior Recreation Leader in implementing program objectives and collecting relevant data.
3. Assist with maintaining on-site safety for participants, observers, volunteers and other involved in the program.
4. Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior and monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.
5. Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
6. Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.
7. Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participant, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

   When assigned to Facilities/Site Monitoring
10. Monitor the use of city owned facilities and ensure the strict adherence to the rules governing the use of city facilities.
11. Responsible for the appropriate use, minor repair of, and proper storage of supplies and equipment used in city facilities.
12. Coordinate facility arrangements with instructors, rental groups and maintenance personnel.
13. Track equipment issued during rentals.
14. Provide excellent customer service to all customers, employees, citizens and guests using city facilities.
15. Ensure that facilities and restrooms are properly cleaned and ready for the next scheduled use.
16. Inspect facility for potential safety hazards, eliminate and/or report such hazards.
17. Assist in the setup, take down and cleanup processes as needed.
18. Routinely adhere to and maintain a positive attitude towards City and Department goals.
19. Perform related work as required.

The City of Patterson is currently recruiting to fill two (2) part-time vacancies for Maintenance Worker I with the Recreation & Community Services Department and to establish an Eligibility List.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under supervision, to learn to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled manual labor duties involving the construction, maintenance, and repair of parks, pools, recreation facilities, and buildings.
 

 Youth Basketball Referee

Seasonal (September to December, 2019)

Position is for Part-time employment from September to December approximately ten (10) hours per week(hours may vary depending on basketball scheduling)  Number of Positions to be filled are five (5) Part time/Seasonal positions.  Games are held on Saturday(s).  The positions work only during the sports activity season.

Sports officials are responsible for officiating youth sports programs. Most games are on evening and weekend schedules.

DUTIES:

• Officiate activities of assigned youth basketball program, including administering program schedules, participating in all program activities, monitoring and enforcing rules and regulations, monitoring games to maintain time schedules, maintaining a safe environment and collecting necessary paperwork.

• Instruct youth in sports rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to and enforce sport and spectator rules.

• Ensure appropriate use, maintenance and storage of sports program supplies and equipment.

• Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

The Recreation Leader is an entry level position responsible for providing support to recreation staff for the implementation of a wide variety of recreation classes and programs.  Areas of programming include, but are not limited to, before and after school programs for youth, teen programs, leisure enrichment classes, youth and adult sports, special events, as well as providing clerical support and customer service at City facilities.

This position is classified as part-time, temporary.  Work schedules may vary and the City cannot guarantee a minimum number of work hours.

All part-time, temporary positions are considered "at will" and continued employment is based on funding availability and the needs of the department to provide services to the public. Part-time employees are not eligible to receive benefits.
