The Event Security Operations Manager (SM3) plays a vital senior role in the management of security, medical response and emergency contingency plans for events occurring on the Stanford campus. Accountant I

Accountant II

This is the full journey-level classification in the series. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. DEFINITION

PC/LAN Technician I: Under supervision, performs skilled technical work on the City’s Personal Computers and Local Area Network, and network servers, including hardware, software and peripherals, and performs other duties as assigned.

PC/LAN Technician II: Under general supervision, performs complex technical work on the City’s Personal Computers and Local Area Network, and networks servers, including hardware, software, and peripherals, may supervise the work of lower level staff, and perform other duties as assigned. Positions in this class require frequent use of a high degree of independent judgment and interpretative ability. Duties do not always follow standard routines; the employee recommends changes in methods and procedures when necessary. The class is required to have operating knowledge of computer systems and greater overall experience.

Positions in the PC/LAN Technician II classification are flexibly staffed and normally filled from advancement from the PC/LAN Technician I class, or when filled from the outside, require specific technology experience. Appointment to this class requires the employee to be performing substantially the full range of PC/LAN Technician duties and to meet the qualifications for the class. The class requires the ability to work independently exercising judgment and initiative and a greater knowledge of the City’s computer systems.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

THE POSITION

The current full-time opening is a professional level position requiring expertise in administrative, supervisory, and accounting functions and is under the direction of the Administrative Services Director.  The Accounting Manager oversees daily financial and accounting activities, supervises accounting staff; performs difficult and complex statistical analyses; assists with annual budget preparation; manages the annual financial audit; develops and distributes internal financial reports; plans and executes all risk management functions; and performs advanced professional, analytical, and administrative work.

Under general direction, the Senior Accountant performs and supervises professional accounting and auditing work of staff responsible for providing financial accounting and record-keeping in connection with general ledger, budget preparation, and budgetary control, purchasing activities, payroll; and performs a variety of professional accounting tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.

The Organization

The City of Pacifica is a General Law City incorporated in 1957 and operates under the Council/Manager form of government. Legislative authority is vested in a five-member City Council elected by district for four-year overlapping terms. The Mayor is selected each year by a majority vote of the other Council members. The Council appoints the City Manager, City Attorney, and members of advisory commissions and committees. 

Pacifica is a full-service city (approximately 200.75 FTE) with a proposed FY2024-25 general fund budget of $48.1 million. THE DEPARTMENT

The Finance and Administrative Services Department provides high-quality support services to all City departments and the community, including Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Risk Management functions, and ensures compliance with City policies and procedures. The Department is responsible for all financial operations, properly recording financial transactions, providing reliable technology resources, implementing best practices in employee relations, providing outstanding customer service, and promoting a positive work environment for a talented workforce. Department staff prepare the annual operating and capital budgets, coordinate the external audit process, etc. The ideal candidate will be contributing and joining a team of five team members. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

ESSENTIAL AND IMPORTANT DUTIES

The Town of Hillsborough (pop. 11,574) is a residential community located in San Mateo County, midway between San Francisco and San Jose.  

Incorporated in 1910, the Town provides a full range of essential municipal services including police and fire protection, land use planning, building permitting and inspection, maintenance of roads, and water, sewer, and storm drainage infrastructures. The Town operates with a Council-Manager form of government with five elected Council Members. The Town is known for its rural charm and the academic excellence of the public and private schools. The Organization: 

The Town is a general law city operating with a Council-Manager form of government. Policy-making and legislative authority are vested in the governing City Council which consists of a Mayor, a Vice Mayor, and three Councilmembers. Council members are elected to overlapping four-year terms in even-numbered years and the members select the Mayor and Vice Mayor annually. Among other things, the City Council is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committee and board members, and hiring the City Manager and the City Attorney (on contract). The City Manager is responsible for carrying out the policies and ordinances of the City Council, overseeing the day-to-day operations, and appointing department heads. The Town’s Fiscal Year 2024-25 Adopted Budget is $75.9 million with a General Fund Reserve of $30.7 million. The Town’s staff of 99 FTEs support the residents through the five departments: City Manager’s Office, Finance, Police, Building & Planning, and Public Works. 

The Department: 

The Finance Department is responsible for the overall financial management of the Town. The Department’s core mission is to maintain a sound and secure financial position by providing administrative and technical support to the Town’s management, City Council, staff, and the public. The Finance Department provides support services to the Town departments and citizens.  Support services include budgeting, accounting and financial reporting, treasury, and revenue management, purchasing and accounts payable, payroll, debt management, financial analysis, and other administrative functions.  Services provided to customers include water, sewer and storm drain utility billing and customer support, alarm billing, business licensing, Town main phone line reception and other services.
