The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors.  Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events.  It is the goal of the Recreation Services Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year.

The City of Marysville is excited to announce the employment opportunity for a Firefighter!  We are seeking energetic and outstanding individuals to join our team. 

This particular recruitment will be a 56 hour (Monday-Friday) position - with the exception of emergencies and Strike Teams.  The base weekly schedule will resemble the following example: 

Monday - 8 hours

Tuesday - 8 hours

Wednesday - 8 hours

Thursday - 24 hours

Friday - 8 hours

Our Firefighters perform firefighting, rescue, fire prevention, equipment operation and equipment maintenance activities to protect life and property; provide emergency medical and rescue services to the community; and perform related duties and responsibilities as required. The Firefighter classification receives direct supervision from the Fire Captain and may receive functional direction from the Fire Engineer.

This is the entry level paid classification in the field of firefighting. It is distinguished from the classification of Fire Engineer in that the latter is assigned more responsible and varied duties which require knowledge and experience in driving motorized fire fighting vehicles and operating related pumping, hydraulic and other specialized fire equipment.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Responds to fires, emergency rescues, first aid, fire alarms, natural and man-made disasters, and public assist service calls.
• Operates a variety of tools, power driven equipment and vehicles related to fire suppression and rescue activities.
• Connects and lays hose lines; assists in holding nozzles to direct streams of water; carries and operates various fire extinguishers and other firefighting appliances; operates engine pumping equipment as required.
• Raises, lowers and climbs ladders; makes forcible entry into buildings when necessary; ventilates buildings and searches for victims.
• Assists in overhaul, salvage and cleanup operations at any incident.
• Performs housekeeping and station maintenance.
• Studies Fire Department rules and regulations, fire hazards, firefighting techniques and related subjects.
• Participates and assists in administration of on-going training programs; attends drills, meetings, and staff conferences.
• Operates ventilation equipment; administers first aid.
• Cleans, services, inspects and test firefighting equipment and apparatus.
• Conducts inspections of building, structures, and properties for compliance with building, safety and related City codes.
• Answers general questions from the public.
• Prepares and updates reports, logs, maps, and other departmental records as needed.
• Makes recommendations to improve the manner in which the job is performed and to deliver the highest quality of service to the public.
• Studies and trains on Fire Department rules and regulations, fire hazards, firefighting techniques, and other related emergency subjects.
• Maintains regular, consistent, and timely attendance.
• May be assigned to drive and operate fire department vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (position requirements at entry) *

Knowledge of:

• Principles, practices, and procedures of modern fire prevention and suppression methods.
• Operation and maintenance of firefighting equipment, tools, and devices.
• Applicable local, State and Federal laws, and departmental rules and regulations.
• Water hydraulics, principles of fire streams and proper pump pressures, and fire behavior.
• First aid, CPR, and other rescue procedures.
• Safety practices, fire hazards, and potentially dangerous situations as they relate to fire prevention, fire suppression, fire investigation, rescue, emergency situations and hazardous materials.
• Geography of the local area including location of hydrants and mains, major traffic areas, and fire hazards.
• English usage, spelling and grammar.
• Modern office equipment, computers. and software.

Ability to:*

• Perform fire suppression, fire prevention and fire inspection activities in emergency situations in accordance with applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations.
• Demonstrate a high degree of mechanical aptitude as required in the operation and maintenance of the firefighting and rescue equipment.
• Think and act quickly and effectively in emergencies within established guidelines.
• Administer first aid including CPR.
• Drive fire and rescue vehicles with care and safety in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances.
• Keep simple records and prepare reports.
• Utilize basic arithmetic, including decimals, ratios, percentages, and fractions.

We are seeking a dynamic and energetic individual to join the City of Live Oak as a Part-Time Recreation Leader. In this role, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and leading recreational activities for community members of all ages. The ideal candidate will have a passion for promoting physical activity, creativity, and teamwork in a fun and safe environment.

Part-Time: Up to 20 hours a week

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the classification of Correctional Officer.  Under continuing supervision incumbents perform a wide variety of support in two areas: corrections, in which incumbents ensure the security, safety and care of individuals in custody; and bailiff, in which incumbents ensure the safety and security of the courts and their personnel during court proceedings; and perform related work as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to either County Jail security or Court security. 

About the Sheriff’s Department :

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. There are numerous programs operating within the facility including medical, kitchen, exercise, commissary, visiting, law library, inmate education, work programs, work furlough program, and inmate classification.

About the Position

Position is responsible for a wide variety of recreation activities, including supervising Youth Center gym rentals and scorekeeping for adult and youth sports leagues (softball, basketball, flag football soccer, bocce ball, kickball, corn hole). Responsibilities during scorekeeping will include head on site supervisor, set up and cleanup of facility or field, maintain score and game time. Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member; may work under functional supervision of a Program Coordinator as assigned.

Schedule will vary depending on sports season; mornings, nights, and weekends as scheduled. Monday-Friday between hours 5:00pm-10:30pm, and weekends as scheduled.

Essential Duties

• Works directly with the public.
• Serves as site or program supervisor.
• Directs program participants as appropriate.
• Performs site maintenance duties.
• Serves as field or gym supervisor.
• Maintains accurate score and game time. 
• Uses and maintains recreation equipment.

About the Position

Positions in this classification perform work in the organization and implementation of a wide variety of recreation activities. 

The work schedule will be Monday-Thursday 4:00pm-9:00pm but may vary based on the needs of the City.

The Program Coordinator classification is the top-level position in the Recreation Leader Series.  Advancement from Recreation Leader Level II to Program Coordinator requires 500 hours of work experience at Recreation Leader Level II, or equivalent experience.

May provide functional supervision to a Recreation Leader I or II as assigned.  Receives general supervision from a full-time Recreation Department staff member.

Essential Duties

• Provide evening customer support, which includes front desk coverage at the Adult Community Center, processing registrations and payments, processing refunds and transfers, answering phone, contacting customers through emails and calls.

• Room set ups and break downs.

• Assist with program marketing including social media and flyers.

Recreation Specialists provide a variety of hands-on support activities to an assigned program or division. Recreation Specialists are expected to:

• Provide professional and courteous customer service at all times
• Provide hands-on operational support in City recreation centers, sports facilities, afterschool and summer camp programs, and/or nutrition and food service programs
• Set up, arrange, and take-down furniture and equipment for classes, rentals, meetings, and special events
• Effectively use, learn and perform tasks on recreation software systems 
• Monitor the proper and safe use of City facilities by the general public and ensure adherence to rules and policies
• Ensure the cleanliness and safety of facilities throughout the day
• Demonstrate proficiency with word processing, data entry and organization

Depending on the specific work assignment, Recreation Specialists also are responsible for:

• Handling money and electronic transactions
• Organizing class sign in sheets
• Monitoring, organizing, and running community programs
• Basketball, volleyball and softball scorekeeping
• Leading children in organized afterschool and summer camp programs and activities
• Food preparation and food service in City nutrition programs.

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to fill current vacancies and establish an employment list for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher within the Sheriff’s Department.  The incumbent receives 9-1-1 system sheriff, fire, medical emergency and rescue calls; dispatches sheriff, fire and medical personnel following established procedures; maintains communication with officers in the field to ensure safety and provide back-up and information; provides relief coverage for the records unit; and performs related work as assigned. These classifications require shift work and the ability to make decisions and act appropriately in stressful situations. The work also involves interdepartmental cooperation with various public safety agencies located throughout the County to coordinate the most effective response to requests for assistance from the public.
