SENIOR RECREATION LEADER

Part-time Position

Summary Description

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor/coordinator, the Senior Recreation Leader is responsible for implementing programs at a given site, including administering program curriculum and supervising program staff.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly wage position without City-paid benefits.  Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays.

Representative Duties

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices:

• Implement all daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations, maintaining a safe environment and collecting any necessary paperwork.
• Instruct program participants in rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to program guidelines and enforce rules.
•      Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
•      Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance and storage of all program supplies and equipment.
•      Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.
•      Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.
•      Assist with training and directing staff and volunteers to ensure program activities are accomplished.
•      Provide information and open communication with appropriate individuals.
•      Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

Youth Basketball Officials (Referees)

Number of Positions Open: 3

$18.46- $20.35 per hour

This is a Part-time/Seasonal position. Recruitment continuous through the 2024 season or until filled. This position works only during the sports activity season (September through November), approximately ten (10) - fifteen (15) hours per week (hours may vary depending on basketball scheduling).  Youth Basketball Referees are responsible for officiating youth sports programs.  Games are held on Saturday(s) and recruitment is for three (3) Youth Basketball Referees for the Youth Hoopsters Basketball Program.

SPORTS OFFICIAL (Youth/Adult)

DEFINITION

The Sports Official is responsible for officiating youth/adult sports programs, including meeting program objectives and participating in program activities.  This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, position without City-paid benefits.  Sports Officials are typically paid on a per game basis.  Most games are in the evening and weekends.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Officiate activities of the youth/adults sports programs as assigned, including administering program schedules, participating in all program activities, monitoring and enforcing rules and regulations, monitoring games to maintain time schedules, maintaining a safe environment, and collecting any necessary paperwork.

Assist Recreation Site Manager in carrying out program objectives and collecting relevant data.

Instruct adults and youth in sport rules, model appropriate behavior, monitor strict adherence to and enforce sport and spectator rules.

Assist with maintaining on-site safety for participants, observers, volunteers and others involved in the program.

Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.

Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance, and storage of all program supplies and equipment.

Maintain appropriate customer service and sportsmanship at all times.

Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff and those contacted in the course of work.

Exhibit enthusiasm and support for the program.

Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience officiating relevant sporting events involving youth or adults, preferred.

Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of assigned sport program.

Able to work assigned program hours.

Must be able to run, squat and bend, see and hear for the duration of a game.

Ability to:

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and understand and carry out oral and written directions.

Learn pertinent City rules, policies, ordinances and program requirements.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

First Aid/CPR Certification desirable.

Under the direction of the Recreation and Community Engagement Department, the position is responsible for Reception/Cashier duties at City Hall and assisting with City events.

This entry-level classification requires limited time on the job before an incumbent can function at the full journey level. When assigned to the front desk at City Hall, one will perform various clerical tasks, including receptionist duties, basic cashier, customer service, program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of special events or projects.

When assigned the task of Recreation Assistant, will perform a variety of functions to support the Recreation Department's programs, including working directly with youth participants, assisting with planning activities, and providing customer service. Responsibilities may include clerical duties like program registration, record keeping, data entry, filing, and support of Department special events.

This position is not responsible for the direct supervision of other Department staff but may provide direction and assist other staff/volunteers during a program and/or activity.
