Salary range for this classification is: $144,274.00 - $176,586.02 annually

This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

Planning, Building and Code Enforcement position:

The Public Information team works closely in support of each of the Department's divisions to provide information to the public and within the organization. ?The Department is currently seeking a highly qualified and experienced individual to fill the role of Public Information Manager. As the Public Information Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing public information strategies to effectively disseminate information to the public, media, and other stakeholders regarding the department's operations, policies, and initiatives.

Working under the direction of the Director, this includes additional aspects such as developing marketing and communication programs, developing and maintaining effective communication with media, community, and public relations sectors, developing and strengthening community partnerships and commitment to public education, as well as managing marketing and internal/external outreach strategies.

The Division is committed to developing, maintaining, and continually improving the quality of services and the customer experience with the goals mentioned above and the successful applicant will recognize and value these goals and qualities while striving to achieve the objectives and tasks of the classification.

Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services position:

The PRNS Department is seeking an experienced senior communicator with a diverse skillset to establish and guide the strategy for all communications, website, public relations messages, and collateral to represent the PRNS Department to the public. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent writing and presentation skills and have substantial experience with developing and executing effective communication plans using a wide range of appropriate tactics, including traditional and new media. Creativity, good judgment, initiative, and a collaborative attitude are essential, as well as the skills necessary in developing strategic partnerships, including with potential partners and donors, to ensure that equitable access to recreational opportunities are provided to all San José residents.

Candidates with public sector, corporate, or public relations agency experience are invited to apply.

Typical duties for a position within either department include but are not limited to:
 

• Develop and execute internal and external communication plans, including implementing communication/media strategies, marketing efforts, development updates, and educational resources
• Manage and develop communications strategies for department senior leadership and ensure the alignment of communication plans and messaging with City goals and objectives.
• Build and manage strategic communication channels to reach diverse customer segments and stakeholders, including websites, digital newsletters, social media, blogs, email, and direct mail.
• Develop and manage department's website content and expanding social media strategies and outreach
• Collaborating with department staff to ensure consistent and accurate messaging on all departmental communications.
• Serving as the department's primary spokesperson and media liaison, providing timely and accurate information on departmental activities and initiatives.
• Plan promotional programs to improve customer and community relations and ensure sufficient equity to public
• Develop print and electronic communications
• Work collaboratively and creatively to support public relations efforts, the functions of the department and its related activities
• Evaluate and recommend a communication plan and plan action to be taken in response to an emergency
• Work involves conceptualizing, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating major public information activities, public education, community relations, and special events and projects.

Join us to make a difference! The salary range for Warehouse Supervisor classification is $71,722.56 - $87,141.60 annually. All ranges include an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate's qualifications and experience.

The Library Department is currently recruiting to fill one (1) Warehouse Supervisor position in the Logistics Unit.
The key responsibilities of the Warehouse Supervisor may include but are not limited to:

• Plans and supervises the operations of a major warehousing facility providing a wide variety of commodities utilized City-wide, or a major warehouse with a large number of highly specialized parts and equipment unique to a department.
• Establishes minimum and maximum stock levels through knowledge of usage patterns, stock availability, lead times, specialized usage requirements, shelf life and other pertinent factors.
• Develops methods of efficient space utilization.
• Plans and supervises the receipt, storage, issuance and disposal of items requiring specialized handling.
• Supervises an inter-departmental mail and drayage service.
• Plans and supervises the rotation of stock.
• Ensures majority of stock is turned over in accordance with accepted standards.
• Coordinates with buyers, vendors, user departments and divisions to minimize inventory, eliminates obsolete parts, achieves standardization of parts.
• Maintains records of costs, vendors, usage patterns, replacement component systems, lead times and blueprints.
• Ensures handling of hazardous materials such as paints, solvents, chemicals and fertilizers complies with State and Federal regulations.
• Vehicle Tracking: maintenance on vehicles, recordkeeping.

Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Varying shifts are available including Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Under general supervision, individuals assigned to this classification assist the organization to develop and design reports, websites, social media collateral and other marketing and presentation materials. This classification focuses on the development of written and graphic representation for division or department materials. Individuals in this classification are primarily focused on enhancing the Division’s social media presence, developing all written material, performing administrative tasks, attending fairs and events to promote Recreation Services programs; and perform/ related work as required.

This position is characterized by developing new and innovative marketing collateral with limited structure or routine work. Work assignments are performed in collaboration with various divisions and levels of staff, independently, with responsibility for following through on development. Contacts are regularly made both internally and externally at all levels of the organization involving tact, discretion, good listening and customer service skills. The position requires creative ability, knowledge of how to generate graphics using The Adobe Suite, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Word and Excel and the ability to exercise a reasonable degree of independent judgment. This classification assists with development and implementation of standards for consistency in materials, written and posted on the internet. Additionally, the position requires good written communication skills, public relations, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills and abilities. The Marketing Associate receives direction from program supervisors and management staff.

Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Design and produce effective collateral for digital and print to promote programs, events and services
• Design and produce graphics materials using computer-based and traditional methods to meet organizational standards and deadlines
• Produce highly creative work within an established organizational style
• Edit electronic newsletter articles and blurbs, program descriptions for activity guide/fliers/online descriptions and social media posts
• Follow all City standards related to branding and writing (Associated Press style), or as otherwise directed, and meet deadlines
• Develop written content and edit for brochures, reports, logos and other marketing and presentation materials
• Consult with City staff and provide technical coaching and training to colleagues
• Participate in the planning, development and production of written and graphics materials
• Assist staff in the development of presentations using PowerPoint and other presentation software
• Create, develop and monitor posts and comments for social media accounts
• Represent the division at community outreach events (such as fairs, special events, etc.) by promoting community services programs and services
• Perform other duties as required

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position is required to work on the Community Center campus and may not work from home. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination when using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision when reading and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service. The need to lift, push and pull files, paper and documents weighing up to 25 pounds also is required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in marketing, communications, graphic arts or a closely related field; AND
• One year of related work experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge of:

• Computer programs utilized in the production of marketing collateral; specifically, the Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Microsoft Publisher, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Dynamics of development of social media sites
• Basic principles of graphic design
• The Associated Press writing style

Ability to:

• Follow general instructions, directions and procedures;
• Accomplish assigned work and administrative tasks working independently or with a minimum of supervision;
• Process information and data in a relevant manner to reach reasonable conclusions and make practical decisions;
• Demonstrate flexibility of style relative to specific job assignments, working environments, shift schedules and hours;

The City is currently accepting applications to fill several part-time, hourly positions to work in the theatres at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center.  Under the direction of the Technical Supervisors and the theatre department leads, the Stagehands assist with a variety of tasks related to theatre operations and maintenance.  The schedule will involve working up to 19 hours per week, depending on assignment.  The schedule includes working nights, weekends, and holidays.  On occasion, the position may involve working additional hours in a week.

Primary responsibilities:  

• Assist in the operation and maintenance of theatre sound, lighting, and/or rigging systems during rehearsals, performances, concerts, and meetings
• Assist in loading, unloading, fabrication, installation, and operation of lighting, sound, wardrobe and rigging systems and manipulation of props in theatrical settings
• Perform heavy manual labor

The total salary range for the Council Chief of Staff classification is $86,318.44 - $172,058.64. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

The District 8 Council Office, supporting Councilmember Domingo Candelas, is recruiting for a Chief of Staff position. The position will work closely with the Councilmember and lead the staff support team for the Councilmember. The Chief of Staff is an integral link between the Councilmember and the Mayor and City Council colleagues, City administration, and the community. The Chief of Staff must have excellent oral and written communication skills, effective organizational, analytical, and management skills, and a dedication to public service. The position requires the ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with community members and neighborhood organizations, key stakeholders, and City staff. The Chief of Staff will serve as a liaison to the Councilmember and will regularly represent the Councilmember at City-related meetings and functions. Bilingual language skills (Vietnamese, Chinese and/or Spanish) both oral and written are highly desirable.  

Responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Advises the Councilmember on policy, budget, and community matters. 
• Manages the day-to-day office operations. 
• Supervises staff to implement office projects and achieve identified objectives. 
• Manages staffing to include workloads, training, performance evaluations, and assisting with hiring and corrective or disciplinary actions. 
• Creates and maintains a collaborative team culture within the Councilmember's office.

Candidates must be willing to work occasional evenings and weekends, and as exempt management employees, are not eligible for overtime compensation. Employees in this classification are not members of the classified civil service and are appointed "at will." Each appointment is for a specified period to be determined by the appointing Councilmember and does not extend past the end of the elected official's or appointing authority's term.
