The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a term-limited Housing Specialist I to join the Housing Division in the Community Development Department. The term-limited Housing Specialist I will focus on the planning and implementation of unhoused services and programs. Under direction of the Housing Officer, Homeless Services Manager, or the Affordable Housing Manager, the term-limited Housing Specialist I will play a key role in the planning and development of new affordable housing, creating new housing programs and unhoused services and programs, implementing the Housing Element, applying for grants/funding to support affordable housing, and monitoring housing legislation. The term-limited Housing Specialist I will perform technical and professional level planning and community development work, with an emphasis on creation and implementation of programs that serve people experiencing homelessness and/or affordable housing programs. This position will closely collaborate with affordable housing developers, various housing advocacy groups, local non-profits, and the community. The ideal candidate will be a passionate affordable housing professional who is a motivated self-starter able to work independently, while also being a team player who can communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, consultants, and decision-makers. (2) a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, architecture or a related field; AND Two years of professional housing programs/policy experience, real estate development, land use planning program experience, or program management, planning, development and/or evaluation of unhoused services or programs.

Facility and Sports Field Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel! This job entails setting up for events and rentals, opening and closing facilities, general janitorial services, sports field preparation, working in concessions and selling food during sports games. DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Santa Clara Fire Department was established in 1854 when local residents formed the Columbia Hose Volunteer Fire Company. Today, the city has 9 fire stations (one more in design process) consisting of 8 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue/light unit, 1 hazardous materials unit, 1 ambulance and 2 command vehicles. The fire department is comprised of 175 personnel staffed across five divisions and serves a population of approximately 130,000 people spread over 18.4 square miles.  The Fire Administration Division provides management, organization, and support for the various divisions of the fire department actively engaged in the protection of life and property.  The Emergency Medical Services Division is responsible for training personnel to deliver pre-hospital emergency medical services to people who live, work and visit in Santa Clara.  The Community Risk Reduction Division is primarily responsible for fire safety education, fire cause determination, inspection of high hazard occupancies, and fire code enforcement. This division also maintains a vital role as technical consultant to the fire department, the City, and the business community, advising on site construction, process installation, and the safe use and handling of hazardous materials as outlined in federal, state, and local regulations. The Field Operations Division efficiently manages over 11,000 emergency responses annually.  The Training Division provides services to the Fire Department, other City departments, industry, and the community at large.

The Position:

Firefighter I is the entry level classification in the Firefighter series. An incumbent in this classification responds to medical emergencies, fire alarms, performs rescue services, and protects life and property endangered by fire. When qualified and assigned, Firefighter I's may be assigned to paramedic duties. Performs related duties as assigned.

• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment. A valid California Class C driver's license with Firefighter endorsement is required within 24 months of appointment 
• All of the listed licenses and certifications must be maintained as a condition of continued employment in this classification for as long as they are required

Desirable Qualifications:

• Demonstrated proficiency in a second language, in accordance with the City's needs
• Military experience, journey-level status in the building construction trades, or other work experience relevant to the fire service
• Community service experience
• Completion of thirty (30) or more units of coursework in Fire Science/Technology at an accredited college
• An associate's or higher-level degree from an accredited college or university
• Possession of a valid California Paramedic (EMT-P) license (required prior to appointment to a Paramedic assignment)
• A valid California Class A or B commercial driver's license

Other Requirements:  

• Typically assigned to a 56-hour workweek (24-hour shifts); may be assigned to a 40-hour workweek as required
• May be required to work odd and unusual hours, including weekends and designated holidays and to be subject to call-back in the performance of job duties
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment

Physical Requirements:

• At least 21 years of age 
• Able to distinguish primary colors (red, green, amber), each eye free of any abnormal condition or disease which might affect performance of job duties, visual acuity in each eye of at least 20/50 vision (uncorrected) and 20/30 (corrected), and normal night vision 
• Normal hearing without correction in both ears
• Free from disabling speech impediments, disabling neuroses or psychoses, and disabling physical conditions or diseases 
• Strength and physical abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Firefighter I. A valid CFFJAC CPAT card issued within 6 months prior to the date of a conditional offer of employment is required.

Position Duties

As part of the Engineering Services Division, Survey Section of the Public Works Department is responsible for delivering land surveying services on a variety of City projects including street widening/improvements, storm and sanitary facilities, library/community center/fire station sites, and airfield projects. These land surveying services include, but are not limited to the following:  topography, property acquisition, construction staking, pavement marking layout, and monument preservation. 

The Survey Section is currently recruiting to fill two (2) Instrument Person vacancies. An Instrument Person performs a variety of sub-professional surveying and engineering functions of moderate difficulty either on a survey crew in the field or in the Survey Section office. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:  

• Acts as instrument person on a survey party. 

• Records field notes and prepares maps and sketches from survey data. 

• Sets up, adjusts, and operates all types of survey instruments. 

• Provides lead direction and training to other survey personnel. 

• Uses modern, survey-grade Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment. 

• Calculates grades and enters data into field books. 

• Turns angles and extends horizontal line using a total station. 

• Uses the level to obtain vertical control. 

• Uses the level, total station, rod, targets to perform topographic surveying in order to describe the existing features of a piece of land in order that it may be reproduced as a plan map. 

• Locates survey points by measurement, magnetometer and from maps of former surveys. 

• Assist with transferring electronic field data to a PC workstation, processing and interpreting the data, and checking for errors. 

• Assists with producing high-quality, computer-generated topography maps and tables using sophisticated engineering software. 

This is the journey level class in a four class surveying series. This class differs from the next higher class of Survey Party Chief in that incumbents of the latter perform sub-professional surveying work and are usually responsible for completing only a segment of a surveying program or project.

The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (Athletic Fields).    This position is responsible for supervision of athletic fields during assigned work hours while providing a positive and welcoming presence at the park.  The Facilities Attendant serves as an ambassador to park visitors, ensuring renters have access to their permitted spaces, unlocking soccer goals as needed, and promoting responsible use of the facility.  The Facilities Attendant also positively enforces park and field rules, encourages users to clean up after themselves, and helps to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.  Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.
