Salary

Child Care Aide: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.  

Child Care Associate Teacher: $19.50 - $25.00 per hour, part time, non-benefited, typically limited to 1,000 hours per year.

CHILD CARE AIDE

This position will work directly with a Child Care Site Coordinator or Lead Teacher at varying pre-school or K-6/ K-8 school sites based on program needs. The Child Care Aide is responsible for leading activities and supervising small groups of children in State-funded Title V programs.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

Basic Examples of Duties

THE TRAINEE POSITION:

Is designed to attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy and receive the academic and physical training resulting in graduation and certification required for appointment to the classification of Police Officer.

This classification is structured for the purpose of becoming a sworn police officer.  Police Officer Trainees are hired into this position for the period prior and during the time they are assigned to a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Prior to performing a variety of professional law enforcement duties which include police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities. 

Upon successful completion of training at the academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees will be sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer at the beginning of the following pay period.  

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Attend a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system including knowledge of laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid and physical fitness.

Receive training to develop an awareness of Police Department functions, as well as the responsibilities of Police Officers and how those responsibilities relate to field operations.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to:

Successfully complete a POST-Basic Law Enforcement Academy including classroom instruction, physical agility and use of firearms.

Learn proper police procedures and methods.

Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.

Think and act quickly in emergencies and to judge situations and people accurately.

Understand and interpret laws and regulations.

Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive written reports.

Become proficient in self-defense techniques.

Become proficient in the care and use of firearms.

Experience and Training Guidelines:

Education and Training:

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (High School Diploma).  Completion of 30 semester units from an accredited college or university (60 units or more is preferred).
• Must show proof of passing the PELLETB test with a minimum T-Score of 48
• Successful completion of the WSTB test (physical agility). 

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

• Free of any felony convictions.
• A citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship (Government Code Para. 1031).
• Age, not less than 21 years at time of appointment.
• Vision in each eye, correctable to at least 20/30.
• Must pass a background investigation.
• Meet all regulatory requirements for becoming a Peace Officer with a California P.O.S.T agency.

The City of East Palo Alto is seeking a skilled, passionate individual to fill one full-time Assistant/ Associate Engineer position. The Assistant/ Associate Engineer performs professional engineering field and office work related to the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of the City’s capital improvement projects, land development, traffic engineering, public works infrastructure, and daily departmental operations. The incumbent will prepare and review designs, specifications, and related engineering and construction documents. The individual will provide assistance related to consultant requests for proposals for professional and/or construction services. The Assistant/ Associate Engineer will confer with developers, contractors, other engineers, and the general public. The successful candidate will perform a variety of studies and prepare and present staff reports; and perform related duties, as assigned. The City will hire at either the Assistant or Associate level, depending on the qualifications held by the pool of candidates.

What You’ll Do

The Administrative Assistant performs a wide variety of complex and difficult clerical and secretarial duties for a major division, office, City Boards, Commissions, or Council. This role receives general supervision from professional or management personnel, or a higher-level clerical position. May exercise direct or functional and technical supervision over lower-level clerical positions.

Some duties may include: 

• Type and proofread a wide variety of reports, letters, memos and statistical charts, typing from rough draft or transcribing machine recordings; transcribe dictation. 
• Independently compose correspondence related to responsibilities assigned. 
• Apply applicable policies and procedures in determining completeness of applications, records and reports; provide information and forms to the public; collect and process appropriate information.
• Respond to complaints and requests for information on regulations, procedures, systems and precedents relating to responsibilities assigned; issue, receive, type and process various applications, permits and other forms. 
• Research, compile, assemble and analyze data for special projects and a variety of statistical, financial and narrative reports; compile budget requests. 
• May serve as Administrative Assistant to a Board or Commission as a part of the overall clerical support function within the office to which assigned; attend meetings of a Board, Commissions or the Council; record, transcribe, type and distribute minutes of meetings.
