The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Water Resources Specialist.  There is one current opening in the Public Works Services Department, Water Utilities Division. Incumbents report to the Utilities Field Supervisor and performs field, office and technical work.  Responsibilities for this position include the ability to perform the most complex and skilled functions of the Water Resources Section, including duties related to the Water Conservation, Recycled Water and Cross-Connection Control programs and the functional and technical supervision of Water Resource Technicians.

 

The City of Burlingame is looking for an On-Call Librarian I/II to join our team!  There are currently openings in the Children's Services and Adult Services departments.  Candidates may use the supplemental questionnaire to indicate if they would like to be considered for Children's Services, Adult Services (Reference) or both.  Hours and shifts will vary depending on department staffing needs.

The Librarian I classification is an entry-level position; the Library II classification is the experienced, journey-level position requiring a higher level of experience and training. The Librarian I/II can be filled at either level depending upon qualifications and experience.

 

For Children's Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Providing reference and reader’s advisory to children, teens, and parents at the Children's Desk, which requires extensive knowledge of children's literature.
• Planning and conducting programs for children including story telling, book talks, and films to encourage reading, viewing and listening and use of library materials and facilities.
• Compiling lists of materials of interest to children.
• Organizing and conducting class visits for preschool and elementary age children to encourage reading and use of library materials and facilities.
• Planning and preparing exhibits, book lists and displays using creative marketing techniques to promote the library’s collections and services.
• Utilizing library computer systems and databases.

For Adult Services:

This position includes working nights and weekends, as needed.  Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Serving at an information desk; research and respond to reference questions by phone, in person, or electronically.
• Assisting patrons in use of library collections through reference interviews, database, and web searches, reader’s advisory, and instruction in the use of the online catalog, computer software, and other technology that is used in the library.
• Maintaining current knowledge of materials, resources at BPL and throughout Peninsula Library System and refer patrons as required. 
• Promoting library services to generate increased usage.
• Responding to patron complaints and problems.
• Performing other related duties as assigned. 

 

Education and Experience
Education: A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

Experience: At least one year professional experience working in a library setting is preferred.  Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra ILS  is desirable. Successful public contact experience in a library setting; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems.

Experience: Successful public contact experience; knowledge of automated systems; basic library reference materials including on-line databases and the Internet; reference interview and research methods; and knowledge of library systems. Experience working with children and adults in a library setting is desirable. Knowledge of the Peninsula Library System and Sierra system is highly desirable. 

Physical, Mental and Environmental Working Conditions: Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift and/or move books or other materials weighing up to 50-pounds; push/pull carts up to 150 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; talk and hear well enough to communicate with patrons; use hands to finger, handle, or fell objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms. 

Work indoors in a library setting, including extensive work at a PC monitor.  Extended periods of standing are required in some instances.

This vacancy is specifically for the Field Operations CSO position.

The City of Foster City is looking for a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Police Department as a Senior Community Services Officer. This position requires mature judgement and discretion and is given specialized training. We are seeking highly skilled individuals with excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Under general supervision, this position supplements administrative staff and provides support for sworn staff in police operations. There are four main assignment areas for the position, but currently there is only one vacancy in Field Operations.

Field Operations Assignment
Performs vehicle abatement duties, provides parking enforcement, performs evidence collection and processing in accordance with departmental procedures, prepares police and operational reports. Responds to subpoenas as necessary. Handle a variety of department fleet maintenance and equipment maintenance duties; run errands in support of department operations, and other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: A high school diploma or equivalent with courses in office administration or specialized job training, with undergraduate college course work, specialized administrative or law enforcement education and/or training. An associate degree is desirable.

Experience: Two (2) years of full-time experience using computers, telephones, radios and other modern office equipment and programs including preparing, compiling and distributing records, budgets, reports and statistical information.

Special Requirements

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

Applications are being accepted for the position of Engineering Intern with the City of South San Francisco’s Public Works Department - Engineering Division. This is a non-benefited, part-time hourly/temporary position.

THE POSITION
Under supervision, performs sub-professional engineering office work to assist the Public Works Engineering Division teams on programs and projects that may include engineering permits, land development plan checks, procedural and standards research and development, record and asset management, traffic research and field crew assistance.

IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION
The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in basic engineering principles and demonstrate proficiency in modern drafting and design practices. They should be familiar with engineering office tools and computer-aided drafting software such as AutoCAD, as well as design and GIS mapping systems.

We are seeking someone who is detail-oriented, highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

The ideal candidate will have willingness to learn about construction management and inspection procedures and the ability to perform accurate mathematical calculations and drafting work. They should be capable of collecting and recording engineering field data with a high level of detail and maintaining thorough documentation. Proficiency in modern office software tools, including PowerPoint, to create professional presentations is essential. The candidate must be able to prepare clear and concise written correspondence, including responses to public inquiries, and demonstrate the ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions. Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors and the public are important. Flexibility to work varied hours as needed to meet project demands is also required.

TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Performs a wide variety of responsible sub-professional engineering work including assisting engineering staff with general clerical, administrative, and technical tasks for public works projects
• Performs electronic document filing, enters data and creates reports in various software applications
• Conducts internet research and research of engineering record archives

• Assists with Traffic Advisory Committee tasks
• Assists with internal and external communications and public outreach

THE POSITION

Under general supervision of a Police Sergeant, the Reserve Police Officer is a sworn position assigned to field operations to patrol for the prevention and detection of crime and enforcement of laws and regulations within the philosophy of community oriented policing.  Incumbents are normally expected to solve most work problems independently and to refer to supervisory personnel only those matters which involve policy decisions, technical questions and unusual problems at the entry level and make recommendations at the advanced level.

The City of Foster City is looking for a Building/Fleet Maintenance Superintendent who will oversee the Building and Fleet Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. The City is seeking a Cross-Connection Control Specialist to perform a range of technical and specialized duties supporting the City’s water system, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of cross-connection control and backflow prevention programs. This role ensures compliance with safe drinking water standards as well as federal, state, and local regulations. Responsibilities include conducting field investigations, surveys, tests, and audits of work performed by third‑party vendors or contract staff; preparing reports; maintaining records and files; and performing related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by specialized training in backflow prevention, cross-connection control, water distribution, or a related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible field and/or office experience related to water distribution and cross-connection control, including inspections, data collection, public contact, and the
interpretation and application of policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record to be maintained throughout employment.
• Possession of a valid Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate issued by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) or Northern California Backflow Prevention Association (NCBPA), to be maintained throughout employment.
• Possession of a valid Cross-Connection Control Specialist Certificate issued by the NCBPA, to be maintained throughout employment.
• Possession of a valid Grade II (D-2) Water Distribution Operator Certificate issued by the State of California Water Resource Control Board, to be maintained throughout employment.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview (weighted 60%) and a practical exercise (weighted 40%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The City of Sebastopol is seeking a skilled, enthusiastic, and adaptable candidate to fill the Associate Planner position. The Associate Planner performs various complex, professional-level office and field planning work related to current and advanced municipal planning, including the review of development and land use applications, zoning, site plans, and environmental documents. The successful candidate will provide professional advice and assistance to the public on planning, zoning, permits, and environmental review. In addition, the Associate Planner provides complex professional staff assistance to the Planning Director, other departments, and the public. This position requires the ability to exercise sound judgment in the interpretation, application, and explanation of a wide variety of City policies, procedures, and regulations, as well as applicable local, State, and Federal laws.
