Overview:

Under general supervision, this role assists in the implementation of the Pure Water Silicon Valley (PWSV) project, including planning, design, and validation studies of the advanced water treatment facility (AWTF) and the distribution of product water for direct potable reuse (DPR). Key responsibilities encompass the development of water quality testing plans, validation of treatment processes, provision of technical support for design, piloting, operational planning, monitoring plans, ensuring regulatory compliance with DPR regulations, managing Reverse Osmosis Concentrate, and aiding in the integration of purified water into the current water supply and distribution system.

The Associate Engineer additionally acts as a technical liaison for the Water Supply Outreach team-evaluating outreach materials for precision and conducting tours of the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center for stakeholders and community organizations. The associate engineer would also assist the R&PW Unit in its ongoing collaboration with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division regarding State and Federal grant and loan applications. In addition, the incumbent would assist in the development of agreements for the PWSV. This position is essential for the implementation of the Pure Water project and ensuring that Valley Water achieves its long-term recycled water objectives while securing community backing and regulatory approvals.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Supporting the planning, design, piloting, and validation studies of the advanced water treatment facility (AWTF) as well as the distribution of purified water, while also assisting in the formulation of water quality testing strategies, validating treatment processes, providing technical assistance for design, operational planning, and monitoring strategies, ensuring adherence to DPR regulations, managing Reverse Osmosis Concentrate, and facilitating the incorporation of purified water into the existing water supply and distribution network.
• Articulating the needs for various stages of PWSV such as Pilot/Demo phase and outlining a clear pathway to implementation through technical support for design reviews, engineering support, submittals, change orders, RFls, etc., and acting as a technical oversight during the design and construction phases for the Pilot and Demonstration Facilities and supporting the sampling, testing, data management, report preparations, etc.
• Supporting the R&PW Unit in enacting a robust communications plan for outreach and associated strategies for promoting potable use and also technical tours at SVAWPC and continued proactive communication with key parties-consumers, elected officials, regulators, advocacy organizations, media outlets, utility staff- before, during, and after PWSV project development and continued leadership for the purified bottling and taste-testing efforts.
• Support the R&PW Unit in its continued coordination with the District Financial Planning & Management Services Division on State and Federal Grant and Loan applications.

• Experience in preparing long-range planning studies, technical presentations, engineering cost analysis/reports, technical memorandums, master plans, and feasibility studies for water, wastewater, or water reuse projects.

Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. The Administrative Services Department has a rewarding full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity to begin in June of 2026. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

 

The workload will be a balance of assisting in daily municipal operations and special projects. Duties may include, but are not limited to town-wide capital inventory, risk management, citizens’ requests, record management, benchmarking, policy analysis and research. Job Description:

The Town of Los Altos Hills is recruiting a college intern to work in the Community Development Department. The intern will split time between the planning and building divisions of CDD. The role for planning will include support of both short range and long range planning.  Interns working on long range planning will work primarily as a research aide for the Town’s 2023-2031 certified Housing Element implementation.  For short range planning and the building division support interns will be focused on day to day permit activities, but may also work on other more general department duties as needed.

Class Characteristics

Description

The Town of Hillsborough is seeking highly motivated, positive, and people-oriented candidates for part-time per diem Communications Officer positions in the Police Department. Shift coverage is needed on daytime and overnight shifts. This position is only open to candidates with two or more years of experience as a Public Safety Dispatcher in California in the previous five (5) years.

 

Per Diem Communications Officer

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, receives and transmits routine and emergency telephone and radio traffic;

dispatches and coordinates police, fire, public works and other municipal staff and equipment via multi-frequency two-way radio; maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records, and radio logs; and does related work as required.

 

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Communications Officer II

This classification has primary responsibility for staffing the Town’s public safety dispatch communication center. Under most circumstances, the training and experience for this position would occur by having prior experience working for another police department as a Communications Officer for a period of at least two years.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications Officer II typically performs, but is not limited to, the duties noted below on a regular basis:

• Receives and handles incoming telephone and voice radio calls for police, fire, ambulance, and public works

• Secures and records information as to exact locations and circumstances using radio or other equipment to dispatch appropriate units to the emergency scene.

• Maintains radio contact with local units on assignment and directs and coordinates with staff from other agencies on a mutual-aid basis, as needed.

• Operates a multi-channel two-way radio, telephones, teletype, office equipment and software systems.

• Performs numerous duties simultaneously.

• Prioritizes calls for service as well as other work-related tasks such as assisting with schedule, monitoring email account or assisting with social media.

• Maintains radio logs and records other information as required.

• Maintains resource files for computer aided dispatch system.

• Serves as trainer to newly hired dispatchers on as needed basis.

• Assist with providing state-mandated training on relevant matters to other department staff, as directed.

• Oversees and performs work related to the warrant process.

• Maintains dispatch center work area and equipment in clean and working condition

Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Physical Skills: Able to use standard office equipment, including a computer; mobility to work in a typical office setting to use standard office equipment; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, and radio; lift and carry 35 pound boxes, files, and materials.

Work Environment: Work in a standard dispatch center environment.

Ability to: Travel to different sites and locations; locations; drive safely to different sites and locations; maintain a safe driving record; handle public information emergency situations.

About the Position: The Planning Department is seeking TWO interns who are interested in learning about open space and planning for ecologically sensitive public recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents related to Midpen programs, lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in project management, planning research, analysis, and written communication.  For additional information about the position, see the Job Description on our website. Working Conditions:  This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  The selected individuals will be required to work a minimum of three days on-site per week, and assignments may vary between field and office work. Field work is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm. Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-to-9-month period. This is a non-benefited position.

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff.  Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Seasonal employees are provided with a uniform.  The start date will be in June  and the selected individuals will continue working through December 2026.   See Job Description for additional information.

Requirements: Must have the ability to learn Midpen lands, pertinent laws and regulations and contact, educate and inform the public about the lands and regulations; administer first aid and CPR; operate and maintain various power tools and equipment; operate two-way radios; communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing; and other duties as assigned.

 

Certificates Needed: A valid California driver license is required upon appointment; valid professional rescuer CPR certificate and basic First Aid certificate (Midpen will offer training to candidates who do not possess CPR/First Aid certificates upon appointment).

 

Education & Experience: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service-related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

 

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off), depending on the field office operational needs. Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

 

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

The County Executive’s Office is seeking a well-qualified Assistant County Chief Financial Officer (Assistant County CFO) to join a high-performing team of public finance professionals supporting the County of San Mateo’s fiscal stewardship and service delivery.

 

The Assistant County CFO, a new position, is being added to the County Executive’s Office to help shape the trajectory of finance for the County for the future.  This visionary leader will be expected to look at the County’s finances in their entirety now and in the years ahead.

 

This executive management role helps lead the Finance Department of the County Executive’s Office, which includes these four divisions: Budget and Performance, Procurement, Assessment and Appeals, and CEO Administration. 

 

Under general direction of the County Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant County CFO provides day-to-day oversight, integration, and coordination of assigned budget operations and will supervise and mentor staff. The position requires a high level of judgment and discretion within the legal and policy frameworks established by the CFO, the Board of Supervisors, and applicable state and federal laws.

 

In addition to the responsibilities of complex budget development and oversight, this position plays a key role in helping develop practical, yet creative solutions to modern government funding and cost pressures, identifying options that are implementable, transparent, and aligned with Board and County priorities.

 

This is a unique opportunity for a high-impact public finance leader to develop and test new methodologies and ideas combining innovative yet practical problem-solving, forward-looking fiscal leadership, and enterprise-minded approaches with fiscally disciplined stewardship.  We are looking for someone who can keep the County financially strong while helping departments navigate growing community needs, rising costs, and limited revenues by bringing fresh thinking, analytic rigor, and collaborative execution to budget solutions.

 

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

 

Fiscal Strategy, Sustainability & Decision Support

• Develop data-informed options to address funding gaps and cost pressures, including scenario planning and clear articulation of tradeoffs and impacts.
• Support strategies to strengthen fiscal sustainability, including evaluation of cost controls, cost recovery, service delivery alternatives, resource reallocation, and other legally permissible approaches to improve revenues and/or reduce expenditures.
• Monitor department expenditures and revenues; identify trends, risks, and mitigation options.
• Review, analyze, and report on pending state and federal legislation with significant fiscal impacts.

 

Budget Leadership & Performance Management

• Assist in planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the development and oversight of the County budget.
• Lead development and implementation of budget policies, calendars, tools, and processes.
• Oversee the development and implementation of performance-based/outcome-based budgeting approaches.
• Coordinate budget and fiscal activities with all County departments and special districts.

 

Organizational Improvement & Implementation

• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness through process redesign, automation, continuous improvement, and improved financial/performance reporting.
• Partner with departments to move from recommendations to implementation, building shared ownership, accountability, and measurable results.
• Lead and participate in high-priority department and county-wide projects and system implementations.

 

Executive Communications & Representation

• Explain and interpret budget and financial policies, rules, and procedures.
• Represent the County CFO with the County Executive, Board of Supervisors, special districts, media, community, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Inform the County CFO regarding overall fiscal condition and emerging issues that could affect the County’s financial position.

County of San Mateo: Fiscal Stewardship & Innovation

• Four years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of fiscal, administrative, and managerial duties in a large, complex public agency, including one or more years in a senior-level administrative or management position.
