What You'll Do:

• Conduct cross-connection surveys and tests to identify potential cross-connections to the water system. 
• Monitor the provision of backflow prevention at user connections. 
• Provide technical supervision over maintenance staff performing backflow prevention assembly installation, repair, inspection, and testing.
• Inspect potable and recycled water systems to determine the existence of cross connections and recommend corrective actions as necessary.
• Test, install, repair, and maintain backflow prevention assemblies.
• Perform plan reviews to ensure proper water system connections.   Identify potential cross-connections and provide written comments.
• Maintain records of installations, locations, tests, and repairs of backflow prevention assemblies.

 

The Essentials:

Cross-Connection Control Specialist

• Two years of experience in water system maintenance, equivalent to the responsibilities of a Water Utility Worker in the City of Mountain View
• Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade supplemented by approved courses of instruction in the theory, laws, regulations, and techniques of backflow prevention and/or cross-connection control.
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Possession of an AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate and a California Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 Certificate.  
• Possession of an AWWA Cross-Connection Control Specialist Certificate within one year of appointment.  

 

Bonus Points:

• Experience administering a water system cross-connection inspection program is highly desirable.

Silicon Valley Power

Silicon Valley Power, Asset Management Group has an excellent opportunity for the position of Senior Engineering Technician. Job responsibilities include, preparing scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering and/or estimating personnel, maintaining records of as-builts and updating existing SVP maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications, maintaining master map files, including such records of block maps, street light maps, fiber communication, electric utility single line and operating diagrams and other maps, performing computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, involvement in checking drawings of electric utility facilities, and performing other duties as assigned. 

Water and Sewer Utilities

The Water and Sewer Utilities Department is looking for a Senior Engineering Technician who desires to become a Water and Sewer Utility professional and support a talented group of engineers, administrative staff and utility operators with the sole aim of delivering safe, reliable utility services and excellent customer service to the community of Santa Clara. The Senior Engineering Technician will prepare exhibits, update CAD files, access and update asset management software, update spreadsheets and project folders, perform site visits, perform field measurements, perform research tasks, support the water sampling program, support plan checks, prepare construction documents, perform field inspections, update block books and communicate with customers, contractors, consultants, engineers, inspectors, and operators. 

The ideal candidate should be proficient in AutoCAD, the Microsoft Office Suite, working with PDF formats, navigating folder directories, and communicating effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders. Any experience, skills or certification related to the water, recycled water, sewer or general civil engineering industry is desired.

Department of Public Works

The City of Santa Clara's Department of Public Works seeks a results-oriented and innovative individual to serve out the Department's mission to provide the highest quality public works services to the residents of Santa Clara, the development community, and our customers in a responsible and efficient manner. The Department has focus areas that include Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance. Engineering Services is comprised of four engineering divisions: 1) Design, 2) Field Services, Land and Property Development, and Traffic Engineering as listed below. Currently, the Field Services Division of the Department of Public Works (DPW) is looking for individuals for the position of Senior Engineering Technician.  This position will provide support to the Field Services division through updates to the Geographic Information System (GIS) system, AutoCAD, and miscellaneous databases.  This position will coordinate internally with various DPW staff to maintain system records and support their needs to successfully complete their projects on time.

The ideal candidate should have experience using and editing AutoCAD software. The Senior Engineering Technician will assist the City Surveyor with topographic, monument, and benchmark surveys conducted in the field. Additionally, the technician will help restore missing or damaged monuments and benchmarks and perform administrative tasks such as filing permits, updating block books, conducting research, and carrying out field inspections and investigations. Employees in this role are expected to be fully trained in all procedures related to their assigned responsibilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Chief of Party, a Professional Engineer, or a Principal Engineering Technician, who assigns tasks and reviews work to ensure compliance with instructions and established engineering standards.

The Design Division manages capital improvement planning and programming related to pavement management, storm drain facilities, and sanitary sewer systems. Additionally, the division provides capital project delivery services for a variety of City projects including transportation, roadways, pedestrian and bicycle, storm drains, sanitary sewers, buildings, libraries, and parks to implement the City’s capital improvement program. The division also coordinates with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on the City’s Community Rating System (CRS) program to maintain the City’s Class 7 rating. 

The Field Services Division provides construction management, construction inspection, materials testing, and surveying for capital improvement projects such as pavement rehabilitation, traffic signals, storm and sanitary sewers, parks, building improvements and other public improvements.  The Field Services Division also provides construction inspection and coordination for developer/private construction of public improvements within the City’s right-of-way. 

The Land & Property Development Division is responsible for providing efficient and effective engineering services to support private development projects during the entitlement, design, and construction phases. The division works closely with customers, developers, utility companies and the community to ensure projects comply with local, state and federal standards. The division is also responsible for reviewing and approving encroachment permits, easements, street/easement abandonments, subdivision maps, processing encroachment agreements, collecting development-related fees, and collaborating with other Public Works divisions, as well as other City departments throughout all project phases. Additionally, the division provides customer counter services to the general public as the City’s permit center.

The Traffic Engineering Division provides traffic engineering, traffic impact analysis reviews, bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning, grant administration, and traffic signal maintenance and operation services for the City. The division also investigates resident/business inquiries related to street parking, traffic calming, intersection control, and bicycling and pedestrian travel on public streets. Finally, this division coordinates with other agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara Roads and Airports, Caltrans, and the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale related to projects, programs, and grant opportunities. 

This position may be filled within various divisions of the Public Works, Water & Sewer Utilities, or Electric Utility Departments not included in this listing.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; and
• Two (2) years of full-time paraprofessional engineering experience at a level equivalent to City of Santa Clara Engineering Technician including at least one (1) year working with Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and/or Geographic Information System (GIS) tools and software.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTION
Possession of an Associate’s degree or higher OR minor in engineering or GIS may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Overview:

The Capital Project Management and Project Controls Program supports capital projects that deliver safe, clean water, flood protection and environmental stewardship throughout the county by providing streamlined solutions for the oversight and management of capital projects. Under this program, Valley Water has implemented and now manages a project management information system (PMIS) for projects in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and other business intelligence and analytics tools to provide enhanced project data analysis and reporting. The program also oversees the quality management system documentation of procedures and work instructions relating to the delivery of capital projects; provides regular updates on the status of capital projects to the Board of Directors and the Board’s CIP Committee; and coordinates with various departments across multiple divisions to create engagement and transparency in our agency’s multifaceted business areas. This position will be expected to provide analysis and support for all aspects of capital project delivery. This position will focus on developing and maintaining performance reporting and dashboards for capital projects. Employment with Valley Water requires employees to work within 150 miles of their primary physical work location located in San Jose, California by their start date.  

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

Overview:

The Senior Engineer (Electrical) is to provide specialized electrical engineering expertise, particularly related to low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems and low voltage motor control centers used in industrial facilities, including water treatment plants. This individual will serve as a subject-matter expert, support ongoing capital projects throughout all phases—planning, design, and construction, act as the Owner’s representative for electrical engineering, and manage consultants and professional services agreements. Their role includes troubleshooting complex electrical issues, assisting with design modifications, and managing capital improvement (electrical) projects, such as the Electrical Improvement Project at Water Treatment Plants and providing electrical engineering support for the Reliability Improvement Project (RWTP). The Senior Engineer (Electrical) will also support the Treatment Plant Projects Delivery Units ongoing efforts to enhance facility operations and ensure the successful delivery of vital infrastructure upgrades.

Treatment Plants Project Delivery Unit (Position Code 1099)

Are you a bright, motivated, and skilled Management Analyst professional who values the preservation of open space and public access to preserves?  Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is recruiting a highly qualified Management Analyst II to support Midpen’s mission of open space preservation, natural resource protection, and ecologically-sensitive public access.  This position will support Midpen’s Land Stewardship & Trails Department by providing day-to-day finance, purchasing, project tracking, budgetary support and will make recommendations for organizational policy and procedural improvements.  In addition, this position will assess staff training needs, recommend appropriate training solutions to management, and track training attendance and completion. About the Position: The Land Stewardship & Trails Department is Midpen’s largest department with over 70 employees during construction season. As such, this position requires constant communication and alignment with team members and stakeholders.  This position reports to the Land Stewardship & Trails Manager and has direct supervision over one Administrative Assistant. Work Environment: This full-time position is part of the Land Stewardship & Trails Department at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, California. Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding. A minimum of three days on-site in the office is required per week. This is primarily a sedentary office classification.  Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Some fieldwork may be required, which involves the ability to walk for short distances over rough terrain, drive vehicles over unimproved roads, and stand for extended periods.

Plant Maintenance Engineering & Commissioning Unit (Position Code 942)

For the SVP Fiber Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with SVP’s fiber network. This individual will assist with engineering design, engineering pole loading analysis software, site surveys, material selection and estimates.   

 

For SVP Operations Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with communication and electrical power engineering.
