EXAMPLES OF DUTIES ‑ Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Building Inspector I/II

• Conduct combination field inspections of industrial, commercial, and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling; ensure proper and safe installations of routine and complex building systems; ensure building progress conforms to all applicable California Building Standards (Title 24, California Code of Regulations), City adopted codes and ordinances, and pertinent provisions of Federal, State and County health and environmental ordinances.
• Respond to emergencies when called upon by supervisor, or emergency dispatchers, to assist as technical expert in evaluation of safety.
• Issue permits for work to be performed.
• Review plans and specifications.
• Assist in the plan checking of residential and commercial projects.
• Participate in Fire Department and County Health Department inspections as required in one or more inspection disciplines such as electrical, plumbing, or mechanical.
• Coordinate inspection activities with other City departments to ensure compliance with conditions attached to projects by the Development Review Board, the Planning Commission or the City Council.
• Conduct inspections with the Code Enforcement officers to verify complaints and/or conditions violating building and zoning codes; conduct follow up inspections to check and verify that conditions are completed.
• Conduct inspections, prepare reports and serve as needed to assist the City Attorney in legal actions initiated by the Building Division.
• Respond to and resolve citizen inquiries and complaints regarding the City's building inspection function.
• Advise property owners, contractors, and others on matters relevant to construction and repair methods and materials; interprets codes and regulations and explains inspection programs; investigates and resolves complaints and problems.
• Retrieve, investigate and analyze building, assessor's parcels, files and other computerized records from computer database as required.
• Confer with architects, contractors, builders and the general public in the field and office; explain and interpret requirements and restrictions; review reports from special inspection agencies, engineers, and architects relating to specific projects.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records and prepare reports.
• Monitor compliance, including after violations.
• Provide public assistance and information over the counter.
• Conduct review of complex technical documents for conformance with accuracy, industry standards, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
• Prepare reports, warning letters, citations, calculations, analysis, grants, diagrams, or technical materials for City, City Committees, public vendor, state and federal filings, and advisory reports.
• Participate in the development of policies and procedures and make recommendations on programs and projects.
• Proficient in using computer software and specialized equipment relevant to job duties.

The Position

In June 2025, the County’s Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to reestablish a countywide human trafficking prevention pilot program in the District Attorney’s Office. The pilot program is an investment in technology and expertise to provide education and outreach, protect victims, prevent exploitation, identify traffickers, and bring perpetrators to justice.

 

Working under the direction of and closely with the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations, the Human Trafficking Prevention Analyst (Prevention Analyst) will help conduct research and track and collect data regarding human trafficking crime activity, as well as targeted prevention efforts, to guide the county’s efforts to combat human trafficking and support the victim/survivors. 

 

The Prevention Analyst will work closely with partner agencies – including community-based organizations, law enforcement agencies, agencies providing victim services, local cities, and school districts to track the scope of human trafficking in San Mateo County.  In addition, the Prevention Analyst may attend daytime and evening meetings with community-based and other organizations, representing the Director of Interjurisdictional Operations.  

 

Using the research findings and the collected data, the Prevention Analyst will draft high-level reports to inform policymakers, including the Board of Supervisors, of the progress of the human trafficking prevention initiative.  

 

Expertise in research and data extraction, management, and reporting are essential to success in this position. Additionally, strong verbal and written communication skills are required to prepare analyses, reports, and presentations.  Versatility and flexibility will also be important in this position.

 

Examples Of Duties:

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Conduct independent research.
• Collect, aggregate, and analyze data.
• Create representational (dashboards, graphs, charts, etc.) and written reports based on research and collected data.
• Collaborate with law enforcement, community-based organizations, local jurisdictions, school districts, and county departments.

Depending on the selected candidate, this position could be filled at the Management Analyst level or the Associate Management Analyst level.

• Associate Management Analyst is the first level classification in the Management Analyst series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents with basic professional administrative education and/or experience perform analytical and technical work. The impact of decisions is moderate, and the work is typically one of interpreting, explaining, or gathering information. The annual salary range for an Associate Management Analyst is: $104,811 – $130,998.
   
• Management Analyst is the fully experienced level classification in the Management Analyst series. Incumbents support the work of departmental management staff by conducting day-to-day administrative support activities and acting as a professional-level resource for organizational, managerial, and operational analyses and studies. The work has technical and programmatic aspects requiring the interpretation and application of policies, procedures, and regulations. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. The annual salary range for a Management Analyst is: $121,264 – $151,611.
     

Limited Term Position

Funding for this pilot program has been approved through December 2026, so this position is being filled as a Limited-Term position.  Limited-term positions are full-time, fully benefited, temporary positions.   Limited Term employees receive medical and dental benefits, like regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan (401-A).  Depending on need, the position could become a regular position, but there is no guarantee of this.

  
Work-Out-of-Class Opportunity for County Employees

For current and regular County of San Mateo employees, this position could be a work-out-of-class or a development opportunity.   Employees who are interested in this assignment must submit application materials and compete in the selection process. 

 

If you are successful in the selection process and are being considered for the assignment, HR will work directly with you and/or your department for an effective transition into the position. You would remain as a permanent employee, just in a different assignment.   At the end of the assignment, you will return to your original position.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, data analytics, computer science, social work, psychology, public administration, or business administration, or a related field. At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level, and at least three years for the Management Analyst level.

Experience with data analytics is required.

Because of the sensitive and difficult information this position will encounter previous experience or education in criminal justice, social work, social services, and/or psychology might be helpful.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports. Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; 2 years general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net). Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills.

• Salary: $6,987 to $9,050 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Redwood City Fire Department is seeking individuals for the position of Cadet Firefighter. The Cadet Firefighter Program is designed to allow students an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of fire department operations. Fire Department Cadets spend a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 96 hours per month at the firehouse, participating in calls for service, station duties, and training. Cadets will also be expected to attend department-sponsored community functions outside of their 96-hour monthly commitment. Though the goal is to immerse the cadet into all aspects of fire department life, they are not allowed to participate in situations deemed Immediately Dangerous to Life and Health (IDLH).

 

This Fire Cadet position is a non-benefited volunteer position.

ABOUT THE POSITION

 

The Redwood City Public Library is looking for a community-centered, values-driven person who will deliver active and engaged customer service, with a focus on supporting self-service and delivering a top-notch experience for each visitor of the library. The ideal candidate will work well with others to achieve goals in a fast-paced, innovative team environment. The candidate will be friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic, creative, technologically savvy and able to consistently provide superb service to a diverse community of library users. This selected candidate will work year-round 5-15 hours per week including nights and weekends, at any of our library facilities – Redwood City Downtown Library, Redwood Shores Branch Library and Schaberg Branch Library. 

 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following: 

• Greet customers when entering and leaving the library;
• Provide customer service at all service points;
• Assist customers with self checkouts and other self service needs;
• Perform library services using new technologies;
• Issue library cards to new customers;
• Collect fines and fees; answer routine in-person and telephone information questions;
• Explain library policies and resolve problems and complaints;
• Assist customers with computers and other devices;
• Follow opening and closing procedures;
• Assist in preparation and maintenance of displays of library materials;
• Collect statistics;
• Assist with preparing library materials for circulation;
• Perform routine clerical assignments and perform related duties as assigned
