Under direction of a Senior Civil Engineer, the Civil Engineer helps define, design, and/or review minor projects and phases of large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines. In the Engineering Division, projects may include such things as bridge repair and replacement, culvert repair and replacement, new retaining walls, pavement management, road improvements, new stormwater management devices, new traffic management devices, and others.

Community Development Agency: Building & Safety Division Opportunity [Structural Civil Engineer]

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Senior Civil Engineer for the Utilities Department. The Senior Civil Engineer (CE) plans, manages, and coordinates the engineering program. Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Engineer, under the general direction of the Division Manager, leads and manages the New Development Review Team, overseeing the review and delivery of complex private development projects. Quality Assurance Group: 
The QA Group supports all capital improvement programs for the Division during planning, design, procurement, construction and closeout phases of highway, rail, transit and facilities projects.  As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring delivery of quality products and services for the Division. It is the responsibility of the QA Group to ensure the development of each project’s Contract-specific Quality Management Plan (CQMP) and to conduct audits and surveillances, based on the approved CQMPs, to monitor and assure effective implementation. The annual salary range for this position is $87,161.88 - $111,436.32. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range. 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or tested equivalent, including satisfactory completion of courses in mathematics

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

One (1) year working with geographic information system (GIS) tools and systems OR one (1) year working with computer-aided drafting (CAD).

Acceptable Substitution: 

Post-secondary education equivalent to thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units including satisfactory completion of courses in mathematics, engineering, CAD, GIS, or related subjects may be substituted for the experience requirement.

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

Computer-aided drafting (CAD) AND geographic information systems (GIS) experience
Completion of post-secondary coursework in GIS and CAD.
