This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Wednesday 8:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM with occasional evening and weekend hours.

 

The Department

DEFINITION

Under immediate and general supervision, classes in this three level series provide a wide variety of responsible and complex administrative, secretarial and clerical duties for an assigned department and department head, to coordinate and participate in office functions in support of the department's goals and objectives; to provide information and assistance to employees and the public regarding departmental policies and procedures.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The emphasis of the Administrative Assistant series is on the accomplishment of general clerical and administrative support duties.

Administrative Assistant I

This is the entry level in the series. Employees perform routine duties under immediate supervision.

Administrative Assistant II

The is the journey level in the series. Employees perform both routine and more complex duties under general supervision.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Immediate supervision is provided to the Administrative Assistant I. General supervision provided to the Administrative II and III is provided by the department head of designee. The Administrative Assistant III may lead or supervise assigned staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE

FOLLOWING:

• Maintains a system of files and records.
• Composes correspondence and prepares reports independently or from oral instructions.
• Makes appointments and meets callers.
• Operates various office machines and equipment as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Invoice Entry.

 

In addition, the Administrative Assistant II performs the following duties:

• Plans, schedules and performs a wide variety of clerical and typing work related to the function to which assigned;
• Supplies information involving facts and interpretations.
• Compiles information for reports and transactions and assists in the consolidation and presentation of data.
• Prepares documents based on data obtained from records and other sources and processes them in accordance with prescribed procedures.
• Establishes and maintains systems to insure accountability and controls
• Facilitates special event and community meeting planning and facilitation
• Creates social media content and executive presentations utilizing design software

• Processes payroll and financial documents. 

• Prepares detailed and complex reports.
• Conducts transactions with the public in matters requiring a detailed knowledge of rules, procedures, policies, precedents and activities. 
• Coordinates on-boarding new staff 

The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

 

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)

The Principal Planner (Planning Administrator) Major Corridors is responsible for the development of corridor planning efforts on major corridors served by the agency. The person in this position will serve as a project manager or key supportive staff member on high profile, priority projects such as: Dumbarton West Transit Connector (Dumbarton Busway Feasibility Study), the Grand Boulevard Initiative and related El Camino Real/SR-82 corridor planning efforts. SamTrans requires someone with experience leading complex multimodal projects through planning, environmental and design phases.

Minimum Qualifications Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to: 

• Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, transportation planning, transportation engineering, geography, economics, public policy or other directly related field.
• Four (4) years of full-time progressively responsible transportation planning experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working at or with a public transit operator on corridor planning projects.
• Experience leading complex transit priority and bicycle and pedestrian projects through planning, environmental and design phases.
• Experience in technical grant writing and project scoping.
• Strong presentation skills with Boards and committees.
• Experience with GIS and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Fluent in Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), or other language often spoken in San Mateo County.

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is seeking dynamic, engaging and qualified engineers for several vacant Electric Utility Engineer positions in various divisions.

 

For the SVP Fiber Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with SVP’s fiber network. This individual will assist with engineering design, engineering pole loading analysis software, site surveys, material selection and estimates.   

 

For SVP Operations Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with communication and electrical power engineering. This individual will assist with the programming of industrial multiplexer networks. The individual should have a strong interest in industrial high-speed data networking.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with:

a) Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and two (2) years experience doing electric utility engineering work, or

 

b)  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and three (3) years experience doing electric utility engineering work and experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Mathlab)

 

Acceptable Substitution:

• A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of experience

 

• An Engineer-in-Training Certification with ten (10) years of experience in electric utility engineering work can be substituted for the degree in engineering and the required experience indicated above

 

License/Certifications:

Possession of an appropriate, valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

• Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineer in the State of California
• Experience using ESRI based Geographic Information System (GIS)
• Experience using system modeling and load flow software; Aspen one-liner software, GE PSLF, and DEW ISM

• Serves as one of the principal instructors.  Oversees and evaluates vendor provided training activities.

• Strong oral and written communications skills.  Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs.
• Demonstrated journey level mechanic experience showing knowledge, expertise and ability to troubleshoot advanced systems and make repairs.

• Zero emission technology including battery electric and hydrogen fuel cell experience highly desired.

The Position:

The Assistant City Manager works directly for the City Manager in the Office of the City Manager. The Office is responsible for the general management and oversight of Daly City’s municipal operations, including the North County Fire Authority and North San Mateo County Sanitation District. About the Position

Under general direction, performs professional-level tasks related to municipal planning, zoning, housing, economic development and environmental analysis; researches and analyzes a variety of planning data; prepares various studies and recommendations; prepares and reviews environmental documents; reviews development and subdivision proposals, building plans, permits, and parcel maps; works with developers, architects, attorneys, and the public regarding City standards and policies; may serve as staff to various Commissions and/or committees; and does related work as required.

 

This classification is a journey level class in the professional planning series.  With the requisite experience, the incumbent can independently assume responsibility for more complex projects and specialized assignments. This position differs from the Assistant Planner position by increased responsibility for project management.

 

General direction is received from the Planning Manager overseeing the Advance Planning Division. Direct supervision and supervision through secondary managers may be provided with specific project assignments in the Community Development Department. Responsibilities may include functional supervision of subordinate staff.

 

 

Essential Duties

• Conducts assigned planning projects involving long-range planning, land use, populations, structures, economic activities, housing, transportation, environmental and related subjects; conducts research, and confers with community members, interested parties, and agency representatives to identify problems and opportunities.
• Analyzes data with respect to relevant laws, ordinances, regulations, and policies; determines methods for compliance with local and state law.
• Prepares professional staff reports of summarized data, conclusions and recommendations; makes oral presentations to the public and elected and appointed decision makers.
• Conducts review of planning applications; coordinates review with various City and outside agencies; may lead a team on complex implementation of long range planning projects; responds to inquiries both orally and in writing; interprets planning policies, state laws and local ordinances, within established parameters; explains City procedures in person, over the phone and in writing.
• Drafts resolutions, findings, ordinances and amendments to them, and California Environmental Quality Act documents.
• Prepares and oversees the preparation of graphs, charts and other displays.
• Provides information on city, regional and state environmental, zoning, and subdivision requirements to consultants, developers, property owners and the general public.
• Works extensively on the computer to manage work programs, produce written documents, prepare maps and graphics, analyze data, create graphics, research on the Internet, and communicate with others through e-mail.
• May administer contracts and oversee the work of consultants.
• May provide staff support to city agencies, commissions or ad-hoc advisory groups.
• Performs duties consistent with the City’s commitment to exceptional customer service.

About the Position:  The incumbent will be part of a cohesive team of 15 in the Information Systems and Technology Department, which is part of the Administrative Services business line. The GIS Program is comprised of five fulltime staff, including this position, and an intern. The position serves as a technical leader within the department and advisor to field and office staff on data management, mapping tools, and web applications.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of and proven experience performing the most complex and varied technical tasks related to enterprise GIS operations, including:

• Installing, designing, configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting and upgrading GIS databases, applications, tools, and software across disparate platforms, servers, mobile devices, and related technologies.
• Designing relational databases and executing administrative procedures to manage database availability, security, schema, versioning, replication, and performance.
• Planning, developing, and deploying web mapping applications, dashboards, and other enterprise solutions that meet high standards and satisfy specialized user needs.
• Publishing and maintaining a large catalog of services, data stores and warehousing systems.
• Authoring Python scripts to support systems integration and automate data extraction, normalization and geoprocessing procedures.
• Ensuring data integrity and applying advanced data management theory, principles, and practices.
• Performing complex spatial analysis, data management, modeling, cartography, and visualization services to support a wide variety of District projects, programs and operations.
• Managing multiple complex projects and serving as technical lead for assigned projects, including developing project plans, schedules, and budgets, gathering user and systems requirements, researching, evaluating, and recommending solutions and technologies, working with vendors, contractors, and other project staff.
• Diagnosing and solving problems that require analysis of unique issues without precedent and/or structure.
• Writing and maintaining user and technical operating instructions and documentation, including training materials, presentations, and how-to videos.
• Providing specialized and complex technical support and training to users and advise on best practices.
• Principles and techniques of cartography and publication-quality map production using ArcGIS software.
• Familiarity with natural resource management issues and the principles and practices of open space and/or park planning.

Work Environment: This position is part of the Information Systems and Technology (IST) Department at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position following successful onboarding. In addition to working in an office setting to complete project tasks, the Senior GIS Technologist may sometimes work in the field and hike steep terrain with poison oak and wildlife.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: 

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in geographic information systems, computer science, geography, environmental science, or a related field and
• five (5) years of increasing responsible experience in information and technology management.
