What You’ll Do

The Public Works Maintenance Leadworker performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and repair of sewer infrastructure, road ways, sidewalks, and storm conveyance system. The Leadworker assigns and participates in the work of maintenance crews, operates power driven equipment, and performs related work as required.   This position is responsible for lead supervision of a sewer, street, storm or traffic safety maintenance field crew. Valley Water Telework Program: Eligibility for telework will depend on the type of work performed, operational needs, and the ability for the employee to perform the essential functions of their job duties while teleworking. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Public Works Maintenance Worker I is the entry-level classification in the series of Public Works Maintenance Worker. It is the journey level in the class series. The current two vacancies are in the Right of Way Division.  Incumbents receive immediate supervision from higher-level staff progressing to general supervision with training and experience.

 

 

A few typical duties may include:

• Perform street maintenance duties; operate construction and maintenance equipment such as trucks, tractors, and skip loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks and gutters.
• Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.
• Use concrete cutting and breaking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete, construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.
• Set up traffic safety devices and barricades as necessary.
• Perform emergency street or other public service maintenance work as required.
• Paint or stencil such traffic directional markings as crosswalks, safety loading zones, bus stops, parking and center lines and railroad and school crossings.
• Paint light poles.
• Install, repair, and/or fabricate stop signs, parking signs, speed signs, railroad signs, and police watch signs.
• Install and maintain parking meter poles and electronic parking meter maintenance.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on equipment as assigned.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Secretary of the District, performs complex and highly analytical work for the Secretary of the District, members of the Board of Directors and associated committees.   Departmental lead on government tort claims, legal documents and communications and participating in complex, sensitive, and detailed analytical work in the areas of budgets, historical preservation and economic, regulatory and administrative policy. Provides internal customer service by assisting managers and executive level staff in complex analysis.  This position requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, and robust customer service skills. 
 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Serves as the primary analytical support to the District Secretary;
• Interprets meeting proceedings and prepares draft meeting minutes, with minimal oversight and as assigned, may attend meetings in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs legal functions of the office and guidance to office staff in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs a wide variety of complex legal analysis, research and briefings about claims for the District, Bridge, Bus and Ferry Divisions, and works with legal counsel in the areas such as government tort claims, subpoenas, Brady requests, small claims and lawsuits;
• Provides a wide variety of complex, confidential analytical duties in support of the District Secretary, Board of Directors, and standing Board committees;
• Independently composes, researches, compiles, summarizes, and prepares a variety of complex correspondence, reports and documents; reviews finished materials for completeness and accuracy; ensures documents comply with District standards, policies and procedures;
• Perform special studies for the District, and coordinates assigned activities with other District departments, and divisions, and outside entities;
• Independently responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints;
• Coordinates and assists in the development of the annual budgets of the Board and District Secretary’s Office and monitors, reviews and approves department expenditures, and performs financial analysis for budgetary purposes;
• Assists the District Secretary with providing direct support in varied, analytical administrative projects related to the Board and its committees;
• Independently prepares and presents a variety of oral and written reports, correspondence, and statistical analyses with extreme attention to detail and accuracy;
• Works with Procurement to select vendors and purchase department services as needed for projects, and participates on panels for various District procurements especially those related to the District’s third party administrators for public liability and workers compensation, insurance advisors and e-document conversion;
• Has an in-depth understanding of the department’s functions and especially its role with the Board of Directors such as the steps involved in planning and executing Board events and maintaining key Board documents such as Rules of the Board, Master Ordinance and record of the Board’s proceedings;
• Autonomously draft client correspondence and legal documents, using proper format and appropriate language and content;
• Oversees newspaper advertisements for public hearings/meetings;
• Monitors activities and ensures maintenance of files related to insurance and accident claim matters to fulfill department records retention schedule;
• Engages with a wide variety of District representatives including the Board of Directors, Executive Team, mid-managers and staff in a wide variety of roles including those engaged in specialized trades;

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) currently provides over 40 percent of Santa Clara’s electricity from carbon-free renewable resources. In addition to using green energy from large-scale wind, solar, geothermal and hydroelectric projects outside of the area, SVP employs innovative ways to locally produce electricity by capturing and burning methane gas from a closed city landfill and using power from solar generating systems on city-owned garages and vacant, unusable land. The Position:

Silicon Valley Power (SVP) is seeking dynamic, engaging and qualified engineers for several vacant Electric Utility Engineer positions in various divisions.

 

For the SVP Fiber Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with SVP’s fiber network. This individual will assist with engineering design, engineering pole loading analysis software, site surveys, material selection and estimates.   

 

For SVP Operations Division, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with communication and electrical power engineering. This individual will assist with the programming of industrial multiplexer networks. The individual should have a strong interest in industrial high-speed data networking.

 

For SVP Engineering and CIP projects, this position will be assigned engineering work associated with electrical power engineering, substation design and Transmission and distribution systems. The individual may manage or will assist in managing Capital improvement Projects (CIP) to support growth of the electric utility. The candidates should have strong background and interest in electric systems.

 

For the Customer Development and Project Management Division, this position will assist in monitoring the operation of power generation equipment to ensure that it operates within the desired specifications, conducting routine inspections and maintenance of plant equipment to prevent failures and ensure maximum efficiency, Implementing upgrades and modifications to existing systems to improve performance and reduce environmental impact, coordinating with other technical staff and management to discuss and strategize plant operations, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to safety and environmental protection, preparing reports on plant operations, outage planning, and other performance metrics necessary for proper management and planning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with:

a) Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and two (2) years experience doing electric utility engineering work, or

 

b)  Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and three (3) years experience doing electric utility engineering work and experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft office (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Mathlab)

 

Acceptable Substitution:

• A Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of experience

 

• An Engineer-in-Training Certification with ten (10) years of experience in electric utility engineering work can be substituted for the degree in engineering and the required experience indicated above

 

License/Certifications:

Possession of an appropriate, valid Class C California driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

• Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineer in the State of California
• Experience using ESRI based Geographic Information System (GIS)
• Experience using system modeling and load flow software; Aspen one-liner software, GE PSLF, and DEW ISM

 

Special Conditions:

May work unusual hours in emergency situations, or while acting as supervisor, or at other than the regular job site.

Position Duties

This position requires flexible availability. Shifts may include morning, afternoon, to evening availability Monday – Sunday. Shift rotations may be required and will be based on the needs of the department. 

Under the direction of the Security Services Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing work focused around supporting safety and delivering de-escalatory security services at any of the 24 SJPL library branches. This position has the unique opportunity to establish and build community trust and safety. The Senior Security Officer will perform duties related to enforcing SJPL Behavior Policy, monitoring and responding to security related incidents at library branches, be proactive in mitigating/deterring criminal activity and damage, performing accurate incident reporting, as well as providing security coaching and training to staff. The Security Officer will monitor inside the library building, as well as the outside perimeter of library building and library parking lot. 

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Interact with a diverse population of library customers and employees to preserve a safe and inviting community environment; provide customer service to library customers. 

• Patrol multiple library branch locations, including building interior and exterior, to identify and deter illegal activities, report suspicious behavior or dangerous situations, while promoting a positive visual presence.

• Address and deescalate library security incidents in alignment with the library’s Behavior Policy and enforcement of violation guidelines. 

• Ensure a courteous and professional demeanor when dealing with difficult library customers and demonstrate excellent customer service to both customers and all levels of library staff. 

• Determine, using sound judgement, the best means of addressing security situations, including informing customers about library policies, reporting incidents appropriately to local law enforcement, producing accurate documentation/reporting, warning customers of rule infractions or violations, assisting staff with escorting people out, and serving suspension paperwork.

• Investigate and document potentially hazardous conditions and communicate with library facilities, executive management, Police, Fire, and other agencies as appropriate; liaise with the partner University Police Department and San Jose Police Department, as needed.

• Write incident reports of library conduct policy violations, activities, and irregularities, such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences. Maintain security-related records and information.

• Draft library customer suspensions requests and serve suspension paperwork; gather and present data related to incidents.

• Evaluate and recommend revision of security and emergency procedures and policies.

• Interpret, implement, and relay legal statutes, laws, departmental policies, procedures, and regulations.

• Provide security-related trainings to library staff.

• May provide training to contract security officers, monitor effectiveness, and evaluate performance/process improvements; ensure current training of all security personnel is complete.

• Respond to emergencies at any of the branch libraries; ensure accurate reporting and follow up with library executive management; Respond to medical emergencies and may provide first aid or CPR.

• Current CPR and American Red Cross Standard First Aid certification desired but not required time of hire. Training can be provided.

• Bilingual skills preferred.

 

The salary range for Senior Security Officer is approximately $76,789.44 - $93,300.48 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

 

The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to interpret, implement and relay policies, procedures, laws, regulations with the public and partner departments, and possess the ability to mitigate and deescalate conflict.

The City of East Palo Alto is now actively seeking a compassionate, organized, responsible Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant performs a variety of complex office administrative, secretarial, and clerical duties in support of an assigned Department Director or for the East Palo Alto Sanitary District (EPASD), including coordinating, organizing, and overseeing the administrative operations and functions of the assigned office. THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.

This essential role provides logistical support to ensure the operational readiness of all five City Fire stations and assists city-wide departments through reliable mail, materials, and records handling.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provides logistical support to all five of the City’s Fire stations and departments by delivering essential supplies and materials to maintain operational readiness.
• Picks up, sorts, and delivers interdepartmental and USPS mail, packages, and materials to City departments and external entities; processes outgoing mail, meters postage, and maintains departmental records of postage use.
• Assists in maintaining and retrieving City records from storage, ensuring timely delivery to appropriate departments.
• Operates a City vehicle safely and efficiently during daily tasks.
• Uses handcarts and lifting devices to transport materials as needed.
• Operates a personal computer to manage inventory and storage records.
• Maintains positive working relationships with staff and the public through courteous and professional interaction.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated or standing position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; lift from the ground and carry 60 pounds; move several boxes via hand truck or cart. Travel to different sites and locations; must maintain safe driving record; maintain a clean and neat appearance.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Licenses/Certificates:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Valid CPR “Healthcare Provider” card (American Heart Association or equivalent) is highly desirable. Selected candidate without a CPR card will be provided training by the department
