Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluation.  Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Senior Equipment Mechanic experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

ABOUT THE POSITION

If so, the City of Gilroy is recruiting for a Senior Equipment Mechanic with the Fleet Division to take charge of the maintenance shop and lead by example. As a Senior Equipment Mechanic, you’ll be more than just a top-notch mechanic – you will be the shop lead overseeing daily operations, assigning work, mentoring other mechanics, and ensuring high standards of safety, service, and performance. Under general supervision of the Fleet & Facilities Superintendent, our Equipment Mechanics perform both routine and complex repairs, diagnoses, and preventive maintenance services on a variety of automotive, construction, and specialized municipal vehicles and equipment, both gasoline and diesel fueled. The employee in the Senior Equipment Mechanic job classification is required to be fully trained in all fleet shop procedures and have strong knowledge of all apparatuses, vehicles, and equipment in the City fleet. The goal of the Fleet Division is to provide high quality repair and maintenance services to all city-owned vehicles, heavy trucks and equipment.

In this exciting opportunity, the incumbent will learn the diverse operation that comes with a government entity such as working with public safety vehicles, public works heavy equipment & vehicles, emergency lighting and sirens, sub-electrical panels, computer hardware and other specialized equipment.

The Coordinator is responsible for providing the highest quality of guest service to all visitors. The Coordinator will be responsible for administrative duties and assist at various City facilities, as assigned. In addition, the Coordinator will monitor facility rentals and support the special events. This is potentially a year around part time position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Provide excellent customer service while performing assigned duties and have strong telephone and follow up skills
• Maintain a high degree of confidentiality in performing all aspects of assigned duties
• Process financial transactions and maintain accurate accounting records
• Communicate facility/program features to potential clients/groups
• Complete all daily opening and closing tasks in a timely manner
• Assist in protecting and safeguarding all property assets
• Resolve guest/participant concerns as needed
• Attend training and staff meetings as assigned

• Supervise part-time employees in Supervisor's absence and update employees on schedules and other essential tasks

• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by Recreation Supervisor or Assistant Recreation Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age
• Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent and have one year college or volunteer / paid experience that would qualify the applicant to perform all duties
• Must have reliable transportation to and from job assignments
• Must possess strong organizational skills and be able to multi-task
• Must be able to establish and maintain productive relations with others
• Must be willing and able to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required
• Depending upon assignment, may need to possess Class C Driver's License

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment

Satisfactory candidates will be placed on an eligibility list. Placements are anticipated immediately after the list is established. The Facility Attendant provides operational supervision of community centers during the absence of full-time staff. Work hours may vary but will often be evenings, weekends and occasionally weekdays. The location of the facility will be discussed during the interview and may be for multiple locations depending on availability.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Supervision of user fee classes and private group uses
• Light maintenance
• Provide general assistance with office work, answer telephones and assist facility visitors
• Light lifting and moving of equipment
• Interpret Department policy
• Receive use permits and payments for community centers
• Assist in organizing and implementing special events and holiday programs
• Create and prepare lobby bulletin boards and displays promoting special events and holiday programs
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

The Recreation Supervisor at the assigned community center provides general supervision

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be least 18 years of AND one year or one summer work or volunteer experience
• Willingness and ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Ability to work independently and reliably complete assigned tasks
• Must possess basic clerical and computer skills
• Ability to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitude with others
• Ability to tactfully resolve guest/associate concerns
