Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. This position provides direction and mentorship to more junior staff and oversees both technical and administrative work performed by their staff and ensures that projects are completed efficiently and effectively for the public good. About the Position
 
The Engineering Division evaluates permit applications and reviews permit renewals for equipment and operations that emit air pollutants in the Air District’s jurisdiction. The division provides technical support to other agency programs and assists businesses, trade associations, agencies, environmental groups, and community members with issues related to permitting and compliance.
  
 Beyond specific permitting work, some of the important programs and projects in which the Engineering Division are actively engaged include but not limited to:

• Emissions modeling of toxic air contaminants including Health Risk Assessments
• Verification of emissions inventories
• Data/database development and management

The Town of Truckee is seeking an experienced, highly-motivated, collaborative team member to play a vital role in the Town’s Engineering Division. The primary focus of this position advertisement is to find a key team member to join the Division in either the Assistant or Associate Engineer role, depending on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
The Engineering Division works on the implementation of a variety of Capital Improvement Projects (CIPs) including new trails, roundabouts, streetscape improvements, roadway infrastructure, and miscellaneous Council priorities, such as new parks or new Town facility improvements. This position will be involved in the planning, design, permitting, and construction management of a variety of these types of CIPs. On the private development side, the Division oversees the design and construction of site and right-of-way improvements associated with private development, such as the Soaring Ranch Development (Raley’s shopping center), Truckee Railyard projects, subdivisions, commercial projects, and affordable housing projects. The distinction between the Assistant/Associate levels is the ability to perform up to the full range of duties assigned, including differing levels of independent use of judgement, under the general supervision of the Senior Engineer or Engineering Manager. The Associate Engineer level requires current registration as a licensed professional engineer in the State of California. The Assistant Engineer does not require registration as a licensed professional engineer, although education in an engineering or related field is desired.

The Senior Construction Inspector(s) assigned to Permits in the Engineering Services Division is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and performing materials sampling and testing of various construction materials to ensure compliance with City and State Standards and Specifications. Under the supervision of Principal Construction Inspectors, the candidate will perform the key responsibilities listed below.

This division is responsible for the design and construction of all capital projects and infrastructure required to provide a safe, reliable and efficient transportation system for Santa Clara County. These responsibilities include program and project management, design development, engineering management, project controls, construction management and turnover of various projects that are part of VTA's rail, facilities and highway transportation improvement programs.

This division is also responsible for the implementation of the projects identified in the 2000 Measure A Program, which includes the planning, design, and construction of the Eastridge to BART Regional Connector, that connects light rail system to  regional transit systems.

VTA’s Engineering and Program Delivery (EPD) Division is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer for the Quality Assurance (QA) Group under the Technical Services Department.  

Quality Assurance Group: 
The QA Group supports all capital improvement programs for the Division during planning, design, procurement, construction and closeout phases of highway, rail, transit and facilities projects.  As a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will play an important role in ensuring delivery of quality products and services for the Division. It is the responsibility of the QA Group to ensure the development of each project’s Contract-specific Quality Management Plan (CQMP) and to conduct audits and surveillances, based on the approved CQMPs, to monitor and assure effective implementation. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with VTA staff, consultants and contractors, attention to detail and ability to lead the QA team with day-to-day activities are desirable skill sets.

Overview:

Do you want to be part of a dynamic team that helps ensure sustainable groundwater supplies? Valley Water is seeking qualified candidates to join the Groundwater Management Unit. This position uses and maintains groundwater models to simulate current and future groundwater conditions, supporting groundwater supply and planning programs and contributing to sustainable water management. Related analyses include mass balance, statistics, or other methods to prepare or review hydrogeologic reports and engineering analyses. Work directly supports water supply operations, managed aquifer recharge, drought response, Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) compliance reporting, and the Water Supply Master Plan. Two (2) years of professional level experience with responsibility for compliance with environmental permitting, water supply planning or distribution, groundwater management, mitigation of natural resource impacts, or hydrogeology or engineering civil.

• Proficiency using and maintaining groundwater flow models. 
• Project based work experience in groundwater management and hydrogeology including issues like groundwater overdraft, managed aquifer recharge, groundwater/surface water interaction, and/or seawater intrusion. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with functions, graphs, and pivot tables in Excel. 
• Experience using GIS and performing statistical analysis (e.g., trend test), and use of computer programming language.

Assistant Water Resources Specialist I or Assistant Engineer I

• Effectively analyze, interpret, summarize, and present technical information and data.

Assistant Water Resources Specialist II or Assistant Engineer II (in addition to level I)

• Evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and prepare effective technical reports. 
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. 
• Thorough knowledge of principles, practices, concepts, and standards of water resources management, hydrogeology, geology, and hydrology.
• Proficiency in numerical groundwater flow modeling, groundwater budgets, and long-term water supply analysis.
• Recent and on-going water resources related developments, including information technology, current literature, and sources of information related to the operations of assigned areas of responsibility.
• Independently conduct comprehensive water resources studies, investigations, and analyses.
• Interpret, apply, explain, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local policies, procedures, laws, and regulations, and Valley Water’s water resources policies and procedures.
• Effectively represent the unit and Valley Water in meetings with governmental agencies, community groups, and various businesses, professional, and regulatory organizations and in meetings with individuals.

Ideal Training and Education:

Assistant Water Resources Specialist I/II

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in water resources management, natural resources management, planning, civil or other field of engineering, geology, physical sciences, earth sciences, natural sciences or a field related to assigned functional area(s). 

Assistant Engineer - Civil I/II

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering or a field related to assigned functional area(s).

OR  

Possession of a valid California Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certificate with two (2) years of associated paraprofessional engineering experience.

Registration with the State of California as a Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus. (if registered, a 2.5% differential will apply).

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule, typically working 40% remote and 60% onsite.

The City of Berkeley is seeking PE-licensed candidates who are passionate about improving infrastructure for a more sustainable and resilient city. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge and experience toward the creation and maintenance of state-of-the-art infrastructure, amenities, and facilities. 

When assigned to Public Works, the Associate Civil Engineer will contribute to exciting new projects across the City. Upcoming developments include large mix-used buildings in downtown Berkeley as well as UC Berkeley projects that will require review for impacts to public right-of-way. Other assignments include Construction Management and Inspection, Buildings/Facilities, and Streets. 

When assigned to the Parks, Recreation & Waterfront Department, the Associate Civil Engineer functions as a project leader for Capital Projects with an emphasis on engineering design. Capital improvement teams are responsible for coordinating with stakeholders and managing contracts to get projects ready for bidding and construction. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in civil engineering and three (3) years of professional engineering experience in design and construction work at a level equivalent to the Assistant Civil Engineer class.

Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college coursework on a year-for-year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Civil Engineer and possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
