DESCRIPTION:
Silicon Valley Power, Maps & Records department has an excellent opportunity for the position of Engineering Aide (Electric). Job responsibilities include, prepares scaled and dimensioned plans based on sketches prepared by engineering estimating personnel, maintains records of as-builts and updates existing SVP maps and records utilizing ESRI-based GIS applications, Maintains master map files, including such records of block maps, street light maps, fiber communication, electric utility single line and operating diagrams and other maps, Performs computing and drafting operations in AutoCAD, involved in checking drawings of electric utility facilities, perform other duties as assigned.

Typical Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
Under general supervision:
• Participates in field survey activities such as assisting with measuring and recording distances and elevation using Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment
• Prepares maps and drawings using geographic information system (GIS) tools to place symbols and apply color codes for the identification of facilities
• Receives, reviews, provides comments, files, and returns maps, documents, and plans using AUTOCAD
• Performs scaling and dimensioning to verify the accuracy of maps and plans
• Assists in conducting field inventory of existing primary and secondary conductors, transformers, switches, poles, pole attachments, manholes, and conduit locations
• Draws and updates electrical schematic diagrams, panel wiring diagrams, substation layout drawings using AUTOCAD, and organizes associated documentation
• Prepares scaled and dimensioned plans, using AUTOCAD based on sketches prepared by engineering/estimating personnel
• Operates a computer and standard office plotting/copying equipment
• Conducts records research including job files, property ownership, easement and right-of-way records
• Maintains records of equipment databases, log books, and map inventories
• Operates passenger vehicles requiring Class C driver's license
• Orders office drafting supplies, manages outside reproduction services, and coordinates vendor services for office drafting equipment maintenance
• Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited junior college with an Associate of Arts degree or higher in engineering or its equivalent, including satisfactory completion of college level courses in writing, mathematics, engineering and related courses; and
• One (1) year working with geographic information system (GIS) tools and systems or one (1) year working with computer-aided drafting (AUTOCAD).
 
Desirable Qualifications:
• One year (1) experience working with computer-aided drafting (AUTOCAD) and one year (1) experience working with geographic information system (GIS).
• Completion of courses in GIS and AUTOCAD.
 
Possible Substitutions:
• Three (3) years of work experience performing mapping/drafting activities of electric utility facilities, involving the use of CAD and GIS systems and tools may substitute for the required education and experience.
 
LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

• Employees are required to pass initial and periodic comprehensive background checks, which may include fingerprinting, to meet Federal, State and/or industry security requirements.
• Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.

The Position:
The Recreation Instructor is responsible for planning, instructing, and supervising a specialized class or program.  With general policy and departmental philosophy guidance from a supervisor, the incumbent exercises sound independent judgment in setting a class curriculum and schedule in a specialized area of instruction such as aquatics, arts and crafts, athletics, cultural arts, dance, drama, physical fitness, music, older adult programs, preschool, and therapeutics.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements: 

Graduation from high school or possession of a GED

 

Minimum Experience Requirements: 

• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or
• Five (5) years of current paid employment with a public safety agency or private emergency medical services agency, with high level Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and/or telephone operation; or
• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

 

License/Certifications: 

Possession of a current P.O.S.T. Basic Dispatch certificate is required.

 

Other Requirements:  

• Incumbents must have the ability to work, as assigned, on schedules that may include Saturdays, Sundays, holidays, and non-traditional work hours.
• Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment.  All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and/or psychological testing.

The Recreation Specialist is the highest classification in the Recreation Leader series.  An incumbent in this class possesses technical expertise in a specialty such as cultural arts, physical fitness, drama, older adults, athletics, therapeutics, music, pre school, day camp, teen activities, and youth sports and is responsible for the planning, development, and supervision of a specialized activity phase of recreation programs .  With general policy and departmental philosophy guidance from a supervisor, an incumbent exercises sound independent judgment in the performance of duties. The Recreation Specialist is distinguished from the Recreation Instructor in that the former has an emphasis on developing and supervising large groups of children in specialized recreation activities while the latter is responsible for developing class curriculum and teaching classroom activities.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements
• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• One thousand (1000) hours of experience in recreation leadership at the level of Recreation Leader III in general recreation programs such as day camp, sports, teens, older adults, and theater; and
• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of application

Possible Substitutions
• Completion of sixty (60) semester units of coursework, or equivalent, from an accredited college or university, preferably with an emphasis in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field may be substituted for the required experience

LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of the following is desirable:
• A valid California Class C driver's license
• A valid American Red Cross First Aid certificate

The Department:
The Parks Division provides planning, development, operation, maintenance, and rehabilitation of City parks and open spaces. The Recreation Division provides classes and programs for all ages and abilities. The Cemetery Division maintains 33,000 internment sites in a peaceful public park.  
 
The Position:
Providing customer service at Recreation Facility Front Desk (CRC, YAC, Senior Center, Reed & Grant Sports Park, Warburton and ISC Pools). The job responsibilities include data input, processing program registrations, opening and closing the desk reception area and keeping accurate records of daily sales. Daily check in of patrons, adhering to established protocols and ensuring the safety of customers as they enter and exit the facilities. Work assignment shifts will include, days, evenings and weekends.

The Recreation Office Assistant has an emphasis on performing a variety of clerical and customer service duties at a recreation facility.  An incumbent in this classification is responsible for demonstrating a high level of customer service while performing basic clerical duties including financial transactions, maintaining documents, and assisting others.  Assignments are generally limited in scope, contain fairly routine duties, and are performed within a procedural framework established by higher-level employees.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

• Currently employed as a Full Time or Part Time Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or

• Currently working as a Level I Reserve Police Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or

• Retired as a Full Time Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or two years experience as a Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency and possession of a valid Basic Certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.  

LICENSES &/OR CERTIFICATES

• Possession of a valid driver's license is required; 

• Proof of a current Basic or higher certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is required at the time of application and for the duration of employment  (Not required for Reserve Police Officers, see below);

The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 

The position of Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is the training level classification for general police and fire work for those incumbents not affiliated with an agency and currently enrolled in a police academy. Incumbents are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until successful completion of the police academy. Assignment to this classification is temporary. If incumbents do not successfully complete a police academy, they will be terminated.  Incumbents hired after the graduation from the California POST Basic Academy are not sworn personnel and are generally in this classification until they are promoted to Public Safety Officer I.

Public Safety Officer Academy Attendee/Graduate is distinguished from the higher-level Public Safety Officer I in that the latter is a sworn position where incumbents continue training for both police and fire duties. Incumbents must successfully complete the police academy prior to being promoted to the classification of Public Safety Officer I.

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or

• Five (5) years of current paid employment with a public safety agency or private emergency medical services agency, with high level Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio and/or telephone operation; 

OR

• Successful completion of probationary period as a Public Safety Dispatcher I with the City of Santa Clara.

ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTION: Possession of a valid California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic certificate, which may be substituted for six (6) months of the solo status experience. Please upload a copy of your certificate.

The Position 
As a Public Safety Dispatcher II, this non-sworn classification dispatches public safety, fire, and emergency medical services out into the community. The successful incumbent will be responsible for receiving incoming calls for police, fire, or medical assistance and dispatch necessary units. This classification is distinguished from the Public Safety Dispatcher I by a broader range of responsibility due to a higher level of experience and training.  

Candidates must attain a passing score on each phase of the examination process to qualify for the Eligible List. A department interview will be required prior to appointment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the non-sworn flexibility staffed Public Safety Dispatcher I/II series. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from the class of Public Safety Dispatcher I in that the latter is the entry level class where incumbents are trained on full range of dispatch functions under immediate supervision. This class is distinguished from the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher in that the latter has full responsibility for supervising a shift of Public Safety Dispatchers I/II.

 

 

Typical Duties

 

Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all the duties that may be performed.

• Operates base radio console equipment, transmitting and receiving routine and emergency messages
• Receives emergency and routine requests for services from the public via 9-1-1, alternate emergency lines, and business lines
• Dispatches appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel in response to those requests, in accordance with established policies and procedures
• Coordinates emergency operations between various departmental personnel and equipment
• Operates data terminals for information pertaining to daily public safety operations, and general emergency services
• Maintains written logs, files, and computer information in the prescribed manner
• Updates computer files and performs other clerical functions and tasks as directed
• Performs other related duties as assigned

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Graduation from high school or possession of a GED; and
• The equivalent of two (2) years of paid employment experience in public safety dispatching within the past five (5) years of which at least one (1) year included solo status; or

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Classroom education involving fire science or law enforcement related studies.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATES

• Possession of a valid California POST Public Safety Dispatcher Basic Certificate and a valid Medical Priorities Dispatching System (MPDS) Certificate are required prior to the completion of the probationary period.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform all the essential functions of the job assignment. All candidates will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting and may include polygraph and/or psychological testing.

PERMANENT CITY EMPLOYEES PREFERENCE POINTS
Current permanent employee candidates who receive a passing score on the examination will have an additional five (5) points added to his/her final score.
