SUMMER AQUATIC STAFF POSITIONS
Salary Range: $17.37 to $30.68/hour; non-benefited, DOE and position offered

The Town of Danville strives to provide an aquatic environment that is safe, instructive and fun through recreational and lap swim, special events, the Learn to Swim program, Junior Lifeguard program and Lifeguard training classes.

PROGRAM LEADER (SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour

QUALIFICATIONS  
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week:  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid (Lifeguard).  

Aquatics staff members generally work 3-5 hours per day, in morning, afternoon, or evening shifts at San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista Pools.  Most staff members will work an average of 15-20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. 

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Pool Managers, Program Coordinator and Program Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring aquatic safety and providing instruction for pool patrons.  Swim Instructors/Lifeguards must enjoy working with children and the general public, be patient, reliable and have lots of energy.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
Job duties include lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, leading pool programming, mandatory staff training, pulling tarps, required daily fitness swims, and administrative duties, including some weekend shifts.  Also: 

• Provide aquatic safety and instruction for pool patrons.
• Use positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.

Salary Range: $18.52 to $30.68/hour

QUALIFICATIONS 
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and it is preferable to have a Water Safety Instructor certificate as well. Senior Guards must have at least two years of lifeguard/swim instructor experience; leadership experience is highly desired.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Provides operational site management by assisting class placement of participants.
• Teaches swim classes and acts as a lifeguard as needed.
• Maintains inventory of pool equipment and supplies, assure pool equipment is in excellent condition and arrange repairs as needed.
• Maintains proper and accurate attendance and cash handling records.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards. 

Position Summary

Under general direction of the Secretary of the District, performs complex and highly analytical work for the Secretary of the District, members of the Board of Directors and associated committees.   Departmental lead on government tort claims, legal documents and communications and participating in complex, sensitive, and detailed analytical work in the areas of budgets, historical preservation and economic, regulatory and administrative policy. Provides internal customer service by assisting managers and executive level staff in complex analysis.  This position requires a high degree of accuracy, discretion, confidentiality, excellent communication skills, and robust customer service skills. 
 

Essential Responsibilities

• Serves as the primary analytical support to the District Secretary;
• Interprets meeting proceedings and prepares draft meeting minutes, with minimal oversight and as assigned, may attend meetings in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs legal functions of the office and guidance to office staff in the absence of the District Secretary;
• Performs a wide variety of complex legal analysis, research and briefings about claims for the District, Bridge, Bus and Ferry Divisions, and works with legal counsel in the areas such as government tort claims, subpoenas, Brady requests, small claims and lawsuits;
• Provides a wide variety of complex, confidential analytical duties in support of the District Secretary, Board of Directors, and standing Board committees;
• Independently composes, researches, compiles, summarizes, and prepares a variety of complex correspondence, reports and documents; reviews finished materials for completeness and accuracy; ensures documents comply with District standards, policies and procedures;
• Perform special studies for the District, and coordinates assigned activities with other District departments, and divisions, and outside entities;
• Independently responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints;
• Coordinates and assists in the development of the annual budgets of the Board and District Secretary’s Office and monitors, reviews and approves department expenditures, and performs financial analysis for budgetary purposes;
• Assists the District Secretary with providing direct support in varied, analytical administrative projects related to the Board and its committees;
• Independently prepares and presents a variety of oral and written reports, correspondence, and statistical analyses with extreme attention to detail and accuracy;
• Works with Procurement to select vendors and purchase department services as needed for projects, and participates on panels for various District procurements especially those related to the District’s third party administrators for public liability and workers compensation, insurance advisors and e-document conversion;
• Has an in-depth understanding of the department’s functions and especially its role with the Board of Directors such as the steps involved in planning and executing Board events and maintaining key Board documents such as Rules of the Board, Master Ordinance and record of the Board’s proceedings;
• Autonomously draft client correspondence and legal documents, using proper format and appropriate language and content;
• Oversees newspaper advertisements for public hearings/meetings;
• Monitors activities and ensures maintenance of files related to insurance and accident claim matters to fulfill department records retention schedule;
• Engages with a wide variety of District representatives including the Board of Directors, Executive Team, mid-managers and staff in a wide variety of roles including those engaged in specialized trades;
• Performs additional related duties as assigned; and
• Regular and reliable performance and attendance is required.

Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Senior Information Systems Manager, this position provides system support during implementation and ongoing support after implementation including report writing, configuration, routine inquiries and user support for the District’s various enterprise technology systems including UKG Pro Workforce Management Time & Attendance and Central Square Technologies Finance Enterprise.   The Business Information Systems Engineer works with end-users, vendors, and members of the Information Systems Department to identify, analyze, and resolve systems issues and provide maximum capability and satisfaction to users.

Essential Responsibilities

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter/Engineers who are licensed paramedics. Under direction of the Fire Captain, the Firefighter/Engineer will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighter/Engineers also provide Advanced Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

Experience and Training Guidelines:
A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Two years (2) of full-time firefighting service.
2. Possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter I certificate is required.
3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver’s license.
4. Must have a valid Paramedic License from the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and will need to obtain San Mateo County Paramedic accreditation prior to completing probationary period.

Required Certification and License:

Additionally, applicants must meet the following education and experience requirements to qualify:

Education : Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Experience:

Deputy Probation Officer I ($43.07/hr-$53.84/hr) - One year of experience in a human services capacity involving communicating and interacting with a diverse population either on an individual or group basis for the purpose of interviewing, counseling or rehabilitating, such as in the role of an institutional counselor, peace officer, or mental health or social services professional.

Deputy Probation Officer II ($48.09/hr-$60.07/hr) - Two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of an entry level Deputy Probation Officer I in San Mateo County.

There are currently various vacancies in the Probation department. Depending on qualifications, the vacancy may be filled at the Deputy Probation Officer I or Deputy Probation Officer II level.

Selected candidates must be available to work flexible shifts, including graveyards, day shift, swing shift, weekends and holidays at any of the Probation Department locations. Selected candidates must also successfully pass a background investigation, including fingerprints, medical examination, psychological evaluation, a truth verification test and be free from any physical, emotional or mental condition which might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a Peace Officer. Felony and misdemeanors convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Deputy Probation Officers I must complete 200 hours of core probation officer training coursework within one year of appointment.

Important Information About The Examination Process

Qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) Selection Examination for the Deputy Probation Officer I/II position. If you have taken the BSCC exam within the last six months at another agency and you would like to utilize that T-score, please attach your exam results to the application. Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Interview adults or juveniles, their families, and interested individuals to determine the nature of their marital, domestic, employment, financial, environmental or other difficulties.
• Formulate plans of probation and present recommendations to supervisors and the court.
• Recommend and set up payment schedules for restitution and fines; evaluate and make recommendations on restitution claims submitted by victims and on probationer's ability to pay.
• Explain procedures, rights and responsibilities to probationers.
• Inform juveniles, adults or their families of available community resources.
• Propose alternative probation plans as needed.
• Obtain releases for medical, psychiatric or other necessary information on probationers.
• Supervise the welfare and conduct of adults on probation and of juveniles who are under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court and assist them to comply with court orders.
• Identify treatment, educational, employment or other programs needed by the probationer; make referrals and follow up to verify and evaluate services received.
• Take necessary legal steps to report non-compliance of probationer with court orders.
• Initiate court process when probationer violates probation terms.
• Consult with professionals in the fields of law enforcement, medicine, religion, law and mental health.
• Cooperate with representatives from state and local welfare, school, and law enforcement agencies.
• Keep informed of departmental policies and procedures.
• Maintain records and prepare reports.
• Participate in mandatory training programs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education Requirement:

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. A degree in sociology, psychology, corrections, criminal justice, counseling or a closely related social or behavioral science is preferred.

Experience Requirement:

Deputy Probation Officer I ($ 43.07 / hr-$ 53.84 /hr) - One year of experience in a human services capacity involving communicating and interacting with a diverse population either on an individual or group basis for the purpose of interviewing, counseling or rehabilitating, such as in the role of an institutional counselor, peace officer, or mental health or social services professional.

Deputy Probation Officer II ($ 48.09 /hr-$ 60.07 /hr) - Two years of experience performing duties comparable to those of an entry level Deputy Probation Officer I in San Mateo County.

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age on or before date of appointment.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States by federal law.
• Must not have been convicted of a felony.
• Deputy Probation Officers I must complete 200 hours of core probation officer training coursework within one year of appointment.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation prior to employment.
