The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

Role description

Under general supervision, assists in analyzing, planning, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing large complex systems or networks consisting of a combination that may include mainframes, mini-computers, personal computers, mobile devices, LANS, WANs, servers, data storage and the physical and logical components that integrate these systems together as an enterprise networking backbone. 

The 1042 Security Engineer is the journey level position in the Engineer series. The class is distinguished from the Senior level by the complexity of the tasks, projects or duties assigned, and is more independent than the Assistant level. This classification performs a wide range of complex analytical, design, planning, implementation, enhancement and problem resolution tasks on large complex systems and networks. Works within a framework of established procedures and interprets policies, procedures and guidelines. This level may formulate recommendations consistent with directives, policies, standards and regulations. Incumbents require only occasional instruction or assistance. Work is reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Serves as a technical architect and systems integrator for large complex systems or networks, with a focus on securing vulnerabilities and reducing risk of system and/or asset compromises.

Essential Duties:
 

1. Determine requirements for the development environment and / or enhancement for large complex systems that serve HSA’s programs. May research and conduct feasibility studies on new technologies.
2. Design, plan, integrate, test, implement, document and enhance large complex systems. This may involve the analysis, coding (.NET C#, Cold Fusion), web application design, database design, and evaluation of systems software, hardware and communications strategies.
3. Perform systems integration for interoperability over dissimilar platforms and technologies. This may involve the integration of various protocols and systems software.
4. Determine the proper installation parameters for software for smooth integration and efficiency in relation to the enterprise system and network.
5. Write code to customize large systems software which may involve specialized programming languages.
6. Read and understand requirements documentation and other documentation in order to write code to implement the required features for application systems.
7. Analyze, detect, identify and correct complex systems software or hardware deficiencies. Analyze, research and debug program logic and systems; modify program logic; analyze service requests for system changes or new requirements to determine the most effective approach and the appropriate staff time required to achieve the needed modification.
8. Provide emergency technical support for application issues to ensure system availability and data integrity. May provide on-call support to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission-critical systems and networks.
9. Act as the liaison between vendors, technical support hot-lines and departments to resolve complex systems. Coordinate and implement corrective measures; this may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote systems and participation in technical committees.
10. Facilitate the demonstration and training of staff in the use of new hardware or software products.
11. Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems software and hardware; develop technical documentation and review documentation prior to general distribution.
12. Plan, develop and implement backup and recovery procedures for large systems.
13. Communicate with managers regarding system performance and operational issues. Suggest improvements to management.
14. Research and test new software technologies; report results; recommend software purchases. Learn and implement the new technologies that are brought in. Coordinate and work with vendors when needed. 
15. Attend meetings, workshops, and demonstrations; perform duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles to transport passengers along specific, assigned routes according to the District's requirements. Provide service in a safe, courteous and reliable manner. Responsible for written reports and other information as required. Upon completion of the Golden Gate Transit Training Program, the employee operates regularly scheduled assignments. All runs will originate in either Santa Rosa, Novato or San Rafael.

Hourly Pay: $31.29/hour to $36.81/hour

 If selected for the position, new hires will need to complete Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District’s Bus Operator Apprenticeship Program ($31.29/hr benefits not included) which is approximately twelve (12) weeks, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Upon successful completion of training, pay increase granted to $33.13 per hour, plus benefits. All new hires will be required to complete a 120 probationary period upon completion of training.

SIGN ON BONUS! $1000 UPON COMPLETING TRAINING. ADDITIONAL $1000 ON 1 YEAR EMPLOYMENT ANNIVERSARY.

Essential Responsibilities

• Transports passengers along assigned routes, making designated stops as required or requested 
• Uses the fare box to accurately collect fares, issues transfers and gives general information • Completes reports on patron count, non-scheduled mileage, vehicular deficiencies, fare box, accidents and other reports as required 
• Operates automatic lift on buses and assists passengers in wheelchairs, those using crutches or walkers, or who have speech or mental difficulty 
• Ensures that Driver’s license and all other documents required of a commercial licensee are maintained and are current and valid 
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job 
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos and cares for carpets and rugs.
• Dusts and polishes woodwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, walls and other fixtures.
• Empties and cleans trash containers and wastebaskets; picks up paper and other debris.
• Cleans rest rooms and maintain supplies.
• Locks and unlocks doors, as necessary, provides for other forms of building security.
• Sets up rooms for meetings and other special events.
• May deliver materials and supplies to and from City locations.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of janitorial experience 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.
