The Department of Planning and Development is currently recruiting for one Senior Planner vacancy:

This Senior Planner will play a crucial role in reviewing complex professional-level tasks related to land use and planning laws, zoning, housing, discretionary entitlements with associated report writing for consideration by the County Zoning Administrator and/or Planning Commission, and the review of building permits and environmental analysis under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Senior Planner will also serve as the lead on assigned projects, which may include overseeing a number of programs (examples include: County General Plan & Housing Element, Surface Mining and Reclamation Act, Santa Clara Valley Ag Plan, and Habitat Plan) and works independently, assuming responsibility for more complex projects (such as Stanford master planning), and must be resourceful and responsive to specialized assignments from Executive Management or the Board of Supervisors. The Senior Planner may also be responsible for reviewing development and parcel maps/subdivision proposals, as well as building plans, and permits. The County will be embarking upon a comprehensive General Plan Update, and other various vision plans and may be expected to oversee and manage these efforts. The County also processes large and complex private development applications for large private institutional uses, new quarries, places of worship and agricultural processing campuses. A Senior Planner with areas of expertise related to long-range/comprehensive planning and/or major project development processing experience, coupled with strong CEQA experience is desired. 

In addition to meeting the employment standards for a Senior Planner, candidates must possess in-depth knowledge and working experience in two (2) or more of the following areas:

• Preparing advanced California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents (e.g., Initial Studies, Mitigated Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports).
• Experience in complex medium- to large-scale development entitlement projects such as campus planning, industrial, commercial, housing, agricultural housing or processing developments, or similar projects requiring advanced CEQA processing, staff report writing, data management and analysis, public outreach and public hearings.
• Experience in the management of CEQA and technical consultants, including meeting coordination, reviewing work products, and contracting/billing. Experience in managing consultants to ensure the project is completed within the approved timeline and budget with the proper deliverable is required.
• General requirements of the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act (SMARA), preparation of annual surface mining inspection reports, and review and approval of Financial Assurance Cost Estimate (FACE), Reclamation Plans, and Mining Plans (desired, not required).
• Analytical understanding of State laws and regulations impacting land use and local government, with directly related work products that include major ordinance revisions and creation and processing of new programs. This would include preparation of professional staff reports of summarized data, conclusions and recommendations.
• Have conducted as a lead project manager or co-project manager long-range, comprehensive planning projects; e.g., general plan updates, major zoning ordinance amendments, specific plans, vision plans, etc., with working knowledge of the principals and practices of such working documents.

Woodside Fire Protection District has an exciting opportunity to join our Fire Prevention Department.

Under the supervision of the Fire Marshal or their designee, the Wildfire Defensible Space Inspector (Per Diem/Part- Time) supports wildfire prevention efforts across the District. This position is seasonal and ideal for those interested in public service, environmental safety, or fire prevention.

This part-time, per diem role is responsible for inspecting properties to ensure compliance with wildfire prevention and fuel mitigation requirements. You'll engage with residents, educate the public, and help reduce wildfire risk across the District.

All candidates that are given a conditional offer of employment are required to successfully pass a pre-employment background check with an agency designated by WFPD. You will also be required to provide a DMV Driving Record Report from the past 10 years.

Position Summary

 

Under supervision, performs inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, removal, replacement and testing necessary to maintain all District vehicles, including record keeping and written verification of work accomplished as directed. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Responsible for major rebuilding, repair and/or removal and replacement of engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, turbochargers, pumps, motors, injectors, cylinder heads, compressors and hydraulic systems, air brake, air systems, steering, air conditioning, and electrical systems and associated vehicle parts.
• Provides minor and incidental repairs to vehicles in general, including manufacture and/or repair of components to maintain equipment.
• Performs ongoing preventive maintenance, inspections and procedures, as directed, to provide the safest, cleanest, most economical and dependable transportation possible for District utilization.
• Provides normal and reasonable care of all District-owned property and tools provided
• Directly responsible for written communication concerning ongoing status of repairs completed, repairs in progress and outstanding repairs necessary to safely and economically provide vehicles for District transportation needs.
• Participates in general repairs necessary to all mechanical equipment supplementary to vehicle repairs and maintenance as directed.
• Generates and completes work orders in a Computerized Asset Management System (IBM Maximo).
• Assists apprentice mechanics, new employees and current employees in pursuing a high level of production, reliability and safety.
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned 
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 1) Completion of four (4) year apprenticeship program or approved equivalent; OR four years’ full-time experience in the repair of heavy duty diesel engines, air brakes, transmissions, differentials, and D.C. electrical; 2) Experience in the operation of machine tools common to repair shops, such as grinders, drill press, valve facers, lathes, boring bars, presses, etc.

 

Required License:  Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years. No DUI’s or Reckless Driving violations within the last 7 years. Must be able to obtain a Class A or B license with “P” endorsement within the six-month introductory/probationary period. Operates District vehicles on a regular basis.

 

REQUIRED TOOLS:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work.

  

HOURS:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority in classification.
• Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
• Must be available to work all shifts.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Occasionally lift up to 100 lbs. maximum with assistance.  Frequently lift, carry and manipulate up to 50 pounds. Working inside and outside in all weather conditions. Works around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of: 

• Common maintenance and repair practices related to heavy duty diesel engine, transmission, steering, electrical, electronic controls, air, hydraulic, brake, fuel and power train systems 
• Common maintenance and repair practices relating to multiplex and programmable logic controller electronic control systems
• District Policies and Labor Agreement (MOU) Provisions
• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position 

 

Skills or Ability to: 

• Use grinders, drill press, diagnostic computers, digital volt/ohm meters, smog testing equipment and other tools and equipment commonly found in a bus/truck fleet shop environment
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, repair and/or replace components common to bus, truck, and automotive equipment fleets
• Read, understand, follow and/or apply oral and written instructions such as complex technical instructions in maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams and schematics, and technical service publications
• Communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing 
• Establish and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships 
• Perform computerized data entry and basic business office technology functions such as use of email, data entry, work order processing and materials requisition

The Position: 

Under direct supervision, the Assistant Electric Utility Engineer performs a variety of entry-level professional electric utility engineering field and office work in Electric system planning, electric system design, construction and/or maintenance programs.  SVP invites applications from dynamic and innovative qualified candidates for an entry level engineering position. Assistant Electric utility engineer will be part engineering team to conduct design, establish standards and implement construction projects. Incumbents may be assigned to work in any division in the Electric Department reporting to a Principal, Senior Electric Utility Engineer, Electric Utility Engineer Division Manager, Assistant Director or Director.

Minimum Education/Experience Requirements: 

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with: 
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering from a college or university that is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET).

• • Possession of a State of California Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) Certificate and at least 1 year of experience in electrical or mechanical engineering office and/or field work, and Experience using AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Mathlab).

Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

Desirable Qualifications: 

• Registration as an Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineer in the State of California.

Job Description

Under general supervision, the 8562 Counselor, Juvenile Hall, is responsible for the care, custody, safety and welfare of juveniles detained at Juvenile Hall.

Essential duties include, but are not limited to: 

1. Observes behavior of detainees in an assigned living unit; directs detainees in the upkeep of personal hygiene, during mealtimes, and while cleaning the unit; maintains appropriate close supervision over detainees to prevent negative incidents; provides appropriate discipline; consults with supervisors regarding disciplinary problems; conducts regular state mandated security checks of rooms; monitors visiting sessions to ensure the safety and security of detainees and counselors.

2. Inspects windows, locks doors when not in use, and keeps count of all detainees assigned to the unit; administers emergency first aid pending the arrival of medical staff; responds to emergency conditions which may require physically subduing and restraining hostile detainees to ensure the safety and security of the unit and the facilities.

3. Completes incident reports, behavior reports, individual case reports, and other departmental forms and reports; maintains the unit log book to ensure adherence to legal requirements. Maintains and updates electronic databases and case management systems.

4. Conducts ongoing individual and group counseling sessions with detainees by communicating rules, policies, expectations, and consequences; listens and responds to questions, concerns, complaints, and requests; provides assistance in working out problems to assist detainees.

5. Directs leisure time activities; teaches and encourages good sportsmanship.

6. Transports residents to and from various locations; directs and controls residents’ movement to ensure the safety and security of the residents.

7. Facilitates the admittance and release process of residents.

8. Confers with departmental personnel and representatives of outside agencies.

Qualifications

Education:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university.

License and Certification:
Possession of a valid California driver license.
Possession of a valid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Substitution:
Experience as a counselor in a juvenile detention facility or experience involving the organization, detention, or suspension of youth groups in a recreational or correctional program may substitute for up to two (2) years of the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. One (1) year equals thirty (30) semester units or forty-five (45) quarter units.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

Job Description

Under general supervision, operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration and auxiliary plant machinery and equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility. Ensures that all equipment, machinery and systems are functioning normally and safely, and complies with all applicable safety rules and regulations.

MAJOR, IMPORTANT, AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Operates, maintains and repairs a wide variety of pumping, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and power generating equipment in a large complex or multi-faceted facility to ensure the safe, correct and efficient functioning of the facility and equipment may be required to operate computerized building management systems, preventative or predictive maintenance computer systems or Computerized Data Gathering System (SCADA).2. Inspects and tests: machinery and equipment for safe, efficient and proper operation by visual and audio inspection during walk-throughs and by standard monitoring; fire prevention equipment to ensure safe and proper functionality; water storage and multiple distribution systems, high pressure zones, wood and steel storage tanks, pumps and relief valves, and samples of water.

3. Makes entries and keeps records on shift operation by taking and entering gauge readings and accurate water laboratory analysis readings and temperatures on operating log sheets or into a computer data system to ensure preventative maintenance and equipment history; and changes charts and recordings accordingly.

4. Receives, records and stores large amounts of treatment chemicals and may handle hazardous chemicals in confined or enclosed areas; must be capable of safely and properly handling chemical spills; may also include handling and treatment of industrial or hazardous waste.

5. Contacts, communicates and is required to deal with contractors, building tenants and/or the general public in order to be able to discharge assigned duties.

6. Maintains keys, communications equipment, and security (in the absence of Security Personnel), in order to ensure the security of a plant and buildings and grounds, including public safety. As part of an emergency response team, recognizes, evaluates, and responds to potentially hazardous situations.

7. Performs control tests on water samples to determine chlorine and fluoride residual, pH, alkalinity, turbidity, color, saturation index and flocculation factors; under supervision, conducts water analysis and regulates treatment chemical dosages to maintain water quality in filtration plant, distribution system, or other large complex facility may also be required to perform water analysis on water/wastewater as required by the State of California; performs boiler water and cooling tower chemical tests, including pH, alkalinity TDS, etc., to monitor and control growth of organisms in water.
