ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Building Attendant. This position requires weekday and weekend shifts and may include both daytime and evening hours. A person in this classification will work flexibly, up to 20 hours per week. San Mateo Consolidated Fire Department

The Opportunity:

To perform technical inspection and investigative work in enforcing compliance with laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the prevention and control of fires; and do related work as required. The Fire Prevention Inspector I/II position is flexibly staffed based on experience.

This is the entry level class in the Fire Prevention Inspection series. This class is distinguished from the Fire Prevention Inspector II by the performance of the more routine tasks and duties assigned to positions within the series including weed abatement and smoke detector inspections, which do not require prior specialized experience. Generally, work is observed and reviewed both during performance and upon completion, and changes in procedures and exceptions to rules are explained in detail as they arise. Since this class is typically used as a training class, employees may have only limited or no directly related work experience.

What You’ll Do:

• Interpret and enforce provisions of fire prevention and fire safety laws, ordinances, and other regulations.
• Perform periodic inspections of new and existing buildings, structures and installations requiring fire clearances; identify fire hazards; recommend corrective actions; perform follow-up inspections to see that corrective actions have been taken.
• Investigate complaints pertaining to violation of fire prevention laws; issue correction orders as necessary.

DEFINITION

The City of Live Oak Internship Program is designed to attract, develop and mentor innovative individuals interested in pursuing a career in the public sector. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

Interns generally work under close supervision and perform simple or routine tasks while learning to perform the more difficult and responsible ones. Interns are hired as limited term employees and employment service is dependent on the length of the project or the particular City service needs.

Intern positions are by their nature temporary employment and Interns are not eligible for City benefit programs unless specifically approved in writing by the City Manager.

About the Role

Deputy Coroners are expected to provide the highest level of professional services in determining the identification of the deceased, collecting and preserving evidence, collecting records, notifying the next of kin, safeguarding personal effects of decedents, and working closely with all agencies concerned with the decedent's death.

Under general supervision, the Deputy Coroner investigate circumstances pertaining to the death of a human being, determine the identification of the deceased, collect and preserve evidence, collect records, notify the next of kin, safeguard personal effects of decedents, work closely with all agencies concerned with the decedent’s death and prepare and submit reports on the death to the Coroner.

THE ORGANIZATION

Incorporated in 1927, Menlo Park is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council is the City's five-member governing body whose members are elected by district to four-year overlapping terms in general municipal elections. THE POSITION

The Human Resources Manager is a key management position at the City. This individual plans, manages, and oversees the daily functions, operations, and activities of Human Resources, working collaboratively with the Administrative Services Director and management staff across the City. It is essential that this position is responsive to all customers and takes a proactive approach to building relationships throughout the organization, recognizing the value and unique contributions made by each and every employee. This individual serves as the main point of contact on employee relations matters and leads labor relations for the City’s five unions (general employees, supervisors and mid-management, police officers, police sergeants, and temporary employees), along with the confidential and unrepresented management groups. This position leads highly-complex projects; conducts a variety of organizational and operational studies and investigations; and prepares and presents staff reports, policies, and other correspondence for the City Council and all employees. The Human Resources Manager leads a staff of five, comprised of three Management Analysts and two Human Resources Technicians, to accomplish a wide variety of daily tasks, policy and labor agreement administration, and process improvements, and is responsible for interpreting and complying with the various regulatory requirements from Federal, State, and local agencies.

Step 2:  Written Examination: Applicants for the Deputy Sheriff Trainee have three options for meeting the written examination requirement:

1) POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB): This exam must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, be passed with a minimum T-Score of 48 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. The areas covered by the PELLETB test include spelling, vocabulary, clarity, reading and CLOZE (use contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words). Step 3:  Physical Agility Examination – Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB): This exam must be passed with a minimum score of 384 and be dated within twelve (12) months of the date of application. The events for the WSTB typically include:

• 99-yard obstacle course
• 32-foot body drag (165 lbs.)
• 6-foot chain link fence climb
• 6-foot solid wall climb
• 500-yard sprint
• 1.5-mile run - This is a pass/fail test held independently of the WSTB scoring, and it must be completed in 14 minutes or less.

NOTE: PELLETB test and WSTB results from other training organizations or law enforcement agencies will be accepted so long as they meet California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements.

Qualifications

Education: A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 60 college units from an accredited or approved institution.
 
Skill/Ability to: Work collaboratively with others to solve problems; read and comprehend legal documents, law enforcement manuals, and court decisions; read standard street and highway maps; follow instructions; function effectively under stress; demonstrate leadership and control in volatile, rapidly changing environments; maintain impartiality, transparency and make accurate observations; perform repeated strenuous physical exertion; write complete and accurate reports and correspondence.; communicate clearly and respectfully with all types of people, both orally and in writing; lead by personal example by interacting professionally and compassionately with community members; meet State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) medical, physical, and psychological standards for law enforcement.

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a Class C California driver's license or equivalent (both classifications).

Deputy Sheriff Trainee: Eligibility for State of California P.O.S.T. law enforcement academy and field officer training OR successful graduation from State of California P.O.S.T. law enforcement academy and eligibility for field officer training.

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age per P.O.S.T and AB-89 Peace Officer minimum qualifications.
• Refrain from using tobacco products at any time for employees hired by the County after October 1, 2004.
• Must meet California POST medical, psychological, and background standards.
• Pass a pre-employment polygraph test.

Open. Anyone may apply. Responses to the supplemental questions and copies of required test scores must be submitted in addition to the regular employment application form. A resume will not be accepted as a substitute for the required employment application and supplemental questionnaire.
 
The examination/selection process will consist of the steps detailed below:
 

Step 1:  Application Submission: All applicants are required to submit an online application to be considered. Responses to the supplemental questions and copies of required test scores (PELLETB and WSTB) must be submitted in addition to the regular employment application form. Applications submitted without the required attachments will be rejected.

Step 2:  Written/ Physical Agility Examination: Applicants for the Deputy Sheriff Trainee have three options for meeting the written examination requirement – (1) submittal of a valid and passing T-Score on the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) exam dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application OR (2) possession of a Basic Police Academy certification meeting POST requirements dated within one year of application will be accepted in lieu of PELLETB scores OR (3) possession of an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university AND submittal of a valid and passing Physical Agiity Test WSTB score dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application.

Step 3:  Application Appraisal (weight: 100%): Applicants who meet the qualifications for the position will be placed on the eligible list for a period of six months.

Oral Interview: After placement on the eligible list, qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an in-person panel interview with the Sheriff’s Office Professional Standards Bureau.

The Belmont Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for part-time Building Attendants. Building Attendants provide operational supervision of facilities during the absence of full-time staff.

Building Attendant I - This is the entry level class in the Building Attendant series.  Incumbents in this class work under close supervision.  As experience is gained, incumbents may be granted more independence of action under established guidelines.

Building Attendant II - This is the journey level class in the Building Attendant series. Incumbents are expected to work independently in the absence of close supervision.
