The Department of Planning and Development is currently recruiting for one Senior Planner vacancy:

This Senior Planner will play a crucial role in reviewing complex professional-level tasks related to land use and planning laws, zoning, housing, discretionary entitlements with associated report writing for consideration by the County Zoning Administrator and/or Planning Commission, and the review of building permits and environmental analysis under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Senior Planner will also serve as the lead on assigned projects, which may include overseeing a number of programs (examples include: County General Plan & Housing Element, Surface Mining and Reclamation Act, Santa Clara Valley Ag Plan, and Habitat Plan) and works independently, assuming responsibility for more complex projects (such as Stanford master planning), and must be resourceful and responsive to specialized assignments from Executive Management or the Board of Supervisors. The Senior Planner may also be responsible for reviewing development and parcel maps/subdivision proposals, as well as building plans, and permits. The County will be embarking upon a comprehensive General Plan Update, and other various vision plans and may be expected to oversee and manage these efforts. A Senior Planner with areas of expertise related to long-range/comprehensive planning and/or major project development processing experience, coupled with strong CEQA experience is desired. 

In addition to meeting the employment standards for a Senior Planner, candidates must possess in-depth knowledge and working experience in two (2) or more of the following areas:

• Preparing advanced California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents (e.g., Initial Studies, Mitigated Negative Declarations, Environmental Impact Reports).
• Experience in complex medium- to large-scale development entitlement projects such as campus planning, industrial, commercial, housing, agricultural housing or processing developments, or similar projects requiring advanced CEQA processing, staff report writing, data management and analysis, public outreach and public hearings.
• Experience in the management of CEQA and technical consultants, including meeting coordination, reviewing work products, and contracting/billing. Experience in managing consultants to ensure the project is completed within the approved timeline and budget with the proper deliverable is required.

This would include preparation of professional staff reports of summarized data, conclusions and recommendations.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. This entry-level classification in the Construction Inspector series reports to a Senior Civil Engineer through a Construction Coordinator in the Construction Inspection Section of the Public Works Engineering Division. Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards

Sufficient training, education and experience to demonstrate possession of the required technical and project management knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills and abilities is typically obtained through a combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree in information systems, computer science or related field and four (4) years of responsible experience developing, designing, and/or maintaining major components of a comprehensive information system including evaluation, analysis and input to the software modules of an Enterprise Resource Planning System or other application system. (Additional applicable experience with applications and systems support, design, and maintenance substitutes for college on a year for year basis.) Incumbents must demonstrate substantial experience in an SAP environment, and/or Electronic Documents Management System, and/or Operations system (such as Trapeze, BDT, ACS) or Construction and CMP solutions.

A VTA employee designated as a "Business Process Owner" and/or "Super User" with four (4) years of experience in that capacity, in addition to performing and leading others in system upgrades and demonstrated technical coursework in SAP or systems used at VTA, meets the minimum qualifications for this classification. Experience with transit/transportation-related applications is desirable.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Plan, lead, and implement recreational activities for children 4-17 (primarily 5-12) years of age in recreational programs. Supervise program participants in indoors and outdoors settings

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Plan, implement and lead age appropriate activities for children which may include: arts and crafts, dance, drama, games, sports, songleading, storytelling, field trips and special events
• Assist in setting up and taking down of equipment
• Supervise program participants indoors and outdoors
• Attend staff meetings and training sessions
• Assist Camp Director and/or Program Specialist in program development, scheduling special events and activities
• Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by the Camp Director and/or Program Specialist and the Recreation Supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 15 years of age, 16 preferred
• Must have special skills in art, sports, science, theater, music and dance
• Must be able to effectively lead groups and provide an enjoyable experience for young campers
• Must have good organizational skills and reliably complete tasks in a timely manner
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
• Must be able to establish and maintain positive and productive relations with others
• Must be able to work in changing indoor and outdoor climates
• Knowledge of recreational principles and practices
• Paid or volunteer experience in a camp or recreational setting for school age children

REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT

• Must be able to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations or information with tact, discretion and significant awareness of confidentiality
• Must effectively communicate with adults and children from a variety of cultural backgrounds
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR, First Aid, & AED from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and TB test are required
• Must submit verification of legal right to work in the United States as a condition of employment
