The San Bruno Police Department

In addition to graduation from high school, the following are required:

• Must currently be employed as a full time paid, sworn police officer for at least two years, or have been employed for at least 24 months as a full time paid sworn police officer in a civilian governmental jurisdiction prior to application; or

The Position 

The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for Public Safety Dispatchers. The San Bruno Police Department has a long-standing tradition of small-town service with big-city dedication to public safety.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.   

Essential Duties 

• Receives and transmits emergency telephone and radio traffic.   

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs. 

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records. 

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality. 

• Performs collateral duties including a variety of related clerical tasks: assisting in preparation of work schedules; training and evaluating performance of new employees; conducting training sessions; assisting in fingerprinting and jail operations, which may include searching prisoners; and is accountable for handling cash, bond, and check transactions.  

• Plans, organizes, and directs dispatching and related activities on an assigned shift. This may include preparing schedules and prioritizing work; observing work performed by Dispatcher I employees to ensure compliance with standards; approving time off; conducting employee evaluations; and providing effective recommendations on personnel matters. 

• Prepares and maintains training and procedure manuals.  As required, prepares special reports, and undertakes projects for Management Staff.  

• May act as Records/Dispatcher Supervisor in their absence. 

• Maintains liaison with other Department Divisions, City Departments, and other law enforcement and emergency response agencies. 

• Maintains various C.A.D and Record Management Files.

About The Department
The Department of Public Works plans, designs, constructs, operates and maintains facilities and equipment that are safe and accessible to the clients of County agencies, the general public, and County employees. The Department advises the Board of Supervisors on all public works issues, including rates and charges for services that are fair to both the users and service providers. Public Works has a budget of approximately $300 million and is comprised of over 300 employees in five divisions: Administrative Services, Airports, Engineering and Resource Protection, Facility and Capital Projects, and Road Services. The Position
Utility Workers perform a variety of manual tasks such as building and grounds maintenance, minor equipment repair, and transportation of materials, and supplies in a locked facility.
 
As part of their duties, Utilities Workers assist the skilled trade workers including painters, carpenters, and engineers. Other duties include, but are not limited to: operating and maintaining equipment or hand tools used in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, and facilities; assembling, maintaining, and repairing equipment and furniture; providing complete custodial services to areas such as medical examination rooms, public restrooms, and lobbies; utilizing the assistance of and instructing incarcerated individuals, clients, or other staff to perform work; ordering and receiving supplies, tools, and equipment; delivering supplies to appropriate areas; digging holes, cleaning-out gutters or storm drains, and disposing of debris; operating a car, van, or light delivery vehicle to transport materials; operating and maintaining power tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment; and performing related duties as assigned.

• Operate and maintain power tools, hand tools, and specialized equipment.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The Utility Worker position may be assigned to one of multiple sections within the Department.  At this time, up to three different sections of the Facilities and Capital Projects Division are seeking qualified applicants.  More information on the various Divisions and sections of the Department is available at:  https://www.smcgov.org/publicworks/our-organization. 

The Building Services section provides janitorial services and a variety of building services for more than 70 County facilities, with over 4 million in total square footage. Core activities of the section include interior office maintenance, exterior office maintenance, receipt and delivery of supplies, room set-up and office configuration, and parking control. If hired into the Building Services section, additional duties may be:

• Provide complete custodial services and support to the custodial staff.
• Provide support and services to our parking structures and parking enforcement which may include providing custodial services and issuing parking citations.
• Maintain and clean all outdoor premises which may include pressure washing, window washing, operating a sweeper, etc. 

The Facilities Maintenance & Operations Redwood City section is responsible for the operation, maintenance, installation and repair of machinery and equipment in County operated buildings. This includes HVAC systems, boilers, lighting systems, refrigeration, generators, water treatment, and emergency power systems. It also includes crafts services such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and lock smithing services required to maintain County facilities. If hired into the Facilities Maintenance & Operations (FM&O) section, additional skills needed, and duties may include: 

• Identify weeds from plants.
• Work independently.
• Dig and set sign and fence posts.
• Attached signs to wood and/or metal posts.

Construction Services provides competitive professional crafts services beyond the scope of routine maintenance provided by the Facilities Operations and Maintenance section, and contracts with the County and Cities to provide carpentry, graffiti abatement, and lighting district services. Trades represented include electrical, plumbing, carpentry and painting.  If hired into the Construction Services section, additional duties may be:

• Assist trades with painting, carpentry, light electrical, and clean-up of work site.
• Empty trash at offices and vacuum floors.
• Dig trenches or post holes on various projects.
• Handle small moving jobs for other departments.
• Knowledge of how to use hand and power tools.

Qualifications

Utility Worker I ($28.35 - $35.45/Hourly) is the entry or trainee level class in this series. Initially, under close supervision, incumbents perform the more routine duties while receiving on-the-job instruction and gaining practical experience. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines. Incumbents may advance to the higher level after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

Utility Worker II ($29.90 - $37.38/Hourly) is the experienced journey level class in this series. Under general supervision, incumbents independently perform the full range of duties. All the positions are characterized by the presence of fairly clear guidelines from which to make decisions and the availability of supervision in non-routine circumstances. Incumbents should demonstrate a thorough knowledge of operations and procedures and the ability to independently accomplish day-to-day tasks under normal conditions and to instruct others.

Education and Experience:

• Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is: One year of experience providing building and facility maintenance and minor equipment repair.

Knowledge of:

• Methods, materials, operations, tools, and practices used in moving, loading, arranging, and transporting materials, records, and supplies.
• Principles and techniques used in basic custodial services and minor equipment repair.
• Fixtures, building hardware, and equipment.
• Safety regulations, precautions, and practices.
• Methods, practices and equipment used in the receipt, storage, handling and ordering of materials and equipment.
• Basic arithmetic.
   

Skill/Ability to:

• Follow safety practices.
• Follow oral and written instructions.

Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%) which may include a performance exam. THE POSITION

The City of San Mateo is seeking a Per Diem Human Resources Technician providing a wide variety of technical human resource work in a variety of program areas including benefit administration; recruitment and selection; compensation; human resources information systems database analysis and report writing, and to do related work as required. This position receives general supervision from the HR Director or Senior HR Analysts.

EXAMPLE DUTIES

• Prepare and maintain personnel records.
• Write, edit and prepare digital and print communications materials.
• Assist in the recruitment process by preparing and distributing job announcements, composing, and placing ads, composing and recording announcements for the job hotline, updating and monitoring recruitment information on the City’s web site, screening applications, and answering inquiries from applicants.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provides logistical support to all five of the City’s Fire stations and departments by delivering essential supplies and materials to maintain operational readiness.
• Picks up, sorts, and delivers interdepartmental and USPS mail, packages, and materials to City departments and external entities; processes outgoing mail, meters postage, and maintains departmental records of postage use.
• Assists in maintaining and retrieving City records from storage, ensuring timely delivery to appropriate departments.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated or standing position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; lift from the ground and carry 60 pounds; move several boxes via hand truck or cart. Travel to different sites and locations; must maintain safe driving record; maintain a clean and neat appearance.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. Position Duties  

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently seeking to fill one (1) Principal Engineer/Architect position in the City Facilities and Architectural Services (CFAS) Division. The Principal Engineer/Architect will support the Library Department (LD) in leading the coordination for the Library Facilities and Customer Experience Planning. This individual will play a key leadership role in driving critical infrastructure initiatives, including supporting the implementation of the California State Library Building Forward Infrastructure Grant projects and managing capital and facilities planning processes in collaboration with the LD and consultants. This individual will act as a leader, ensuring timely and effective project execution, and delivering results that meet organizational and state funding objectives.  

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Principal Engineer/Architect will require the ability to extensively collaborate across the LD, the DPW, Planning, Building and Code Enforcement (PBCE) and other contractors/vendors, while maintaining adherence to budgets, timelines, and plans. Outstanding leadership, a high degree of accountability, and the ability to establish an excellent working relationship with all stakeholders are required to be successful in this position.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the design and construction of major public works projects, in partnership with the Library Department.  

• Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, architects, technicians, and inspectors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and consistent services. 

• Oversee engineering/architectural or other technical research; review, analyze, and prepare recommendations to Senior and Executive staff regarding project and/or program scope or objectives. 

• Direct and coordinate the preparation of cost estimates and project and/or program budgets; monitor budgets and schedules for performance. 

• Consult with Senior and Executive staff, contractors, other departments, and consultants to plan, design, and construct major engineering/architectural and/or other technical projects. 

• Direct and coordinate the creation, planning, and management of capital budgets and staffing plans to successfully deliver capital projects. 

• Oversee the planning and execution of the procurements of design consultants and construction contracts. 

• Partner with the department’s other executive staff to lead transformation, training, and other process improvement efforts in the City’s capital improvement program. 

• Prepare technical reports and correspondence as required.

The Human Resources Administrator (Classification & Compensation) reports to the Director, Human Resources and is responsible for administering the District’s classification and compensation categorization system including performing highly confidential and professional level analytical work and advanced data analysis. This position makes recommendations based on studies and market data for professional-level administrative positions within the San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), Peninsula Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Associate Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or directly related field.
