A Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintaining contact with all units on assignment and maintaining status and location of police field units.

The Department

The Parks and Recreation Department is the third largest department in the City and is organized by program area, with each program administered by a supervisor, coordinator, or specialist. The Parks and Recreation Department is composed of a Director and 22 full-time management positions. The department is comprised of the Recreation, Parks, and Building Maintenance divisions. The Parks and Recreation Department mission is to provide opportunities for physical, cultural and social well being; protect and enhance the physical environment; and ensure the effective and efficient use of public facilities and open space.

The Building Maintenance Division maintains 32 facilities totaling more than 563,000 square feet and over 275 acres of park land. The division provides janitorial, preventative maintenance services, and necessary building and related equipment repairs to all of the City's facilities, including interior and exterior work. The division also performs a variety of tasks, which include moving furniture, set-ups, and many other miscellaneous tasks as required. 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used in performing custodial repair and maintenance; occupational hazards and safety practices and procedures related to the work; and techniques for dealing with the public, City staff, and representatives of contractors in an effective manner. The ideal Building Maintenance Custodian will also have the ability to maintain proper standards of cleanliness in assigned areas; follow written and verbal instructions; maintain basic records; and use materials, tools, and equipment safely and effectively form physical labor, including periodic heavy labor.

The Position

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):

• Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; shampoos and cares for carpets and rugs.
• Dusts and polishes woodwork, furniture, fixtures and equipment; wash windows, walls and other fixtures.
• Empties and cleans trash containers and wastebaskets; picks up paper and other debris.
• Cleans rest rooms and maintain supplies.
• Locks and unlocks doors, as necessary, provides for other forms of building security.
• Sets up rooms for meetings and other special events.
• May deliver materials and supplies to and from City locations.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:

Experience: One year of janitorial experience 

Training: Equivalent to graduation from high school.

Licenses/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record, which must be maintained as a condition of employment.

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2025.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. What You’ll Do

This is position will perform professional engineering work in the design, investigation, and construction of public works and related projects; to act as project manager in assigned capital projects; and to do related work as required.

Assistant Engineer - This is the journey level class in the professional engineering series not requiring registration. Positions in this class are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Junior Engineer. Incumbents of this class perform the moderately difficult professional engineering work. Assistant Engineers are normally considered to be on a continuing training status and as assigned responsibilities and breadth of knowledge increase with experience and registration is received, may reasonably expect their positions to be reassigned to the next higher class of Associate Engineer. The Assistant Engineer position receives general supervision from higher level professional engineers and may exercise technical or functional supervision over technical engineering staff.

Associate Engineer - This is the journey level class within the professional engineering series and highly encourages professional engineering license registration. Employees within this class are distinguished from the Assistant Engineer by the greater complexity of the assignments received and by the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate. Incumbents are expected to complete complex engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting general policies, and determining work assignments. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in the class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Assistant Engineer, or when filled from the outside, require prior advanced technical or professional engineering work experience. How to qualify

Education: Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university AND

Experience: Four (4) years of experience managing a section with oversight of contract negotiation, administration, operation, or compliance within a large organization, all of which includes experience supervising professionals.
