The City of Pacifica's Public Works Department is recruiting for a Building Maintenance Specialist. This is a full-time position with benefits and a compensation schedule range of $6529- $7,755 per month. This position works a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off. This position is included in a bargaining unit under Teamsters MISC Local No. 856.

DEFINITION

Under general supervision, to perform skilled carpentry, plumbing, mechanical and electrical work involving rough and finished construction, installation, and repair work

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the skilled level class in the building maintenance series.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receive general supervision from higher-level staff.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

• Operates woodworking machinery such as sanders, planers, and power saws in the construction of cabinets, shelves, stairways, and other wooden articles or structures;
• Hangs doors and installs wooden sashes;
• Lays finished flooring;
• Instels, remodels, repairs and maintains electric, HVAC, wiring and plumbing systems, furniture, roofs, and other general repairds to buildings;
• Installs wall board;
• Prepares walls for plastering and refinishing;
• Maintains and services carpentry equipment and tools;
• Repairs small motors, heaters, boilers, and broken water lines; may do occasional general public works construction and maintenance work.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of

• Materials and methods used in both rough and finished carpentry and most other areas of the construction field;
• Plumbing maintenance, installation, and finishing

 

Skill/Ability to

• Prepare rough sketches of work and estimates of materials and labor;
• Read blueprints and work according to plans and specifications;
• Carry out oral and written directions;
• Use and operate mechanical tools; ;
• Work with others.

 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way of qualifying is:

Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience performing public works building maintenance duties

Substitution: Completion of an accredited apprenticeship in the construction field or may substitute for two years.

Training: Graduation from high school and

LICENSE

Ability to drive and possess a valid California driver’s license.  May be required to qualify for and obtain a Class A or Class B driver’s license and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Transportation regulations.

Description

The Department of Public Works is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Wastewater Collection Supervisor.
 
The Wastewater Collection Supervisor serves as first-line working supervisor, having responsibility for overseeing a crew of Wastewater Collection Workers in the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer facilities of the ten County-owned sewer maintenance and sanitation districts. The Supervisor will coordinate, direct, and participate in the activities of the crew and administrative staff; utilize the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for scheduling work and indicating work that has been completed; operate a variety of light construction equipment and wastewater collection system maintenance equipment; and perform related duties as assigned.
 
The ideal candidate for this position will have at least two years of experience leading or supervising a crew of workers and laborers performing sanitary sewer maintenance work.
   
 The ideal candidate will also have the following:

• Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with practices, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of sanitary sewer facilities 
• Experience in conducting sanitary sewer system inspections (sewer laterals and mainlines) and preparing related reports
• Ability to organize office work, manage day-to-day tasks, and interpret and implement instructions, policies, and procedures
• Knowledge and experience with computerized maintenance management systems
• Familiarity with GIS
• Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures and the ability to champion and inspire employee safety
• Strong computer skills and aptitude for learning new technologies
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.  
• Ability to recognize and evaluate operational issues and problems and recommend and implement efficiency and productivity improvements

Examples Of Duties

 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Plan, organize, coordinate, direct and participate in the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer systems.
• Supervise, train, evaluate and instruct subordinate personnel.
• Investigate, respond to, and resolve customer complaints and prepare reports of findings and actions taken.
• Perform field inspections associated with sewer district projects or sewer inspection permits.
• Read and interpret engineering and construction plans and specifications.
• Review crew’s completed work assignments, such as sanitary sewer overflow (SSO) reports, work order and service request documents, CCTV inspection reports, etc., to ensure information required is complete and accurate. May enter details into California Integrated Water Quality System (CIWQS).
• Administer County and Department safety programs and policies by ensuring employees' compliance with safety practices and procedures.
• Prepare performance evaluations and address performance issues with crew members.
• Participate in an "on-call" rotation and be available to assist for work in emergencies outside of normal working hours.
• Perform related duties as assigned. 

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a Class B California driver license with both air brake and tank endorsement; AND
• Possession of a Grade III Collection System Maintenance Certification through the California Water Environment Association’s (CWEA) Technical Certification Program.

 
Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to qualify is:

• Four years of experience in road maintenance and construction work, including two years of experience with sanitary sewer collection and water distribution systems.

Knowledge of:

• Supervisory principles and practices, including work planning, scheduling, employee training and evaluation
• Practices, procedures, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of sanitary sewer and storm drain systems
• Safety practices relating to public works projects
• Basic arithmetic
• Volume, weights, and measures
• The proper use of hand tools including shovels, rakes, hoes, etc.
• The proper use of power tools and light equipment including power saws, drills, air powered tools, portable and stationary pumps, generators, compressors, vibratory rollers, motorized tampers, etc.

The Skywalker Fire Brigade Fire Chief (FC) position will supervise, lead, and train the Skywalker Fire Brigade (Department). This is a management position for 9 employees that staffs one private fire station and has the opportunity to build and direct a motivated staff of firefighters. The Fire Chief will oversee three duty Captains and their projects, providing guidance and leadership for the organization. The Fire Chief will oversee daily schedules with regard to standard prevention activities, training, and special events. Oversee fire prevention inspections, lead vegetation management projects including pile burning, shaded fuel breaks, and interact with the property insurance agent and facilities manager for future projects. The Chief will represent the Skywalker Fire Brigade during county-wide meetings for Operations and Training. Skywalker Fire employees provide an extraordinary level of customer service and hospitality to Skywalker Properties' clientele. While this role operates within a Brigade fire department, the position itself is mostly comprised of prevention and training. The Position 

The Senior Transportation Planner under general direction, organizes, reviews, and participates in transportation planning work; supervises the work of professional and technical transportation planning personnel, projects, and other activities; and performs other related work as required 

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Supervises professional and technical staff, including prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, training staff, and supporting hiring decisions in consultation with the Engineering Manager, Deputy Director, and Department Head. 

• Represents the City and department in communications and interactions, including coordination, briefings, and presentations, with other City departments, City Commissions and City Council, government agencies, local industries, businesses, community groups, and other stakeholders interested in regional and local transportation, transit, traffic, and parking issues. 

• Plans, coordinates, formulates, and implements, in coordination with other City departments, goals, objectives, policies and priorities; and makes recommendations for changes to codes, plans and policies, as it relates to transportation planning and parking management.

• Participates in and provides technical expertise in transportation demand management and traffic forecasting including the formulation of a City-wide traffic model and the maintenance and update thereof. 

• Manages administration of the City’s parking permit programs, oversees the collection, control, and reconciliation of parking revenues, assists in the preparation and administration of the parking program operating budget, monitors expenses, and prudently allocates resources to support parking program operations and objectives. 

• Assists, contributes and manages the planning, design, and construction of capital projects including preparation of purchase requisitions, requests for proposals, development of the scope of work, professional service agreements and coordination with other City departments as appropriate. 

• Reviews planning applications and building permits in relation to transportation and parking related issues, including review of traffic impact analyses, vehicle miles traveled (VMT) analyses, and other related transportation studies. 

• Attend in-person meetings, site visits, and stakeholder engagements, often with minimal notice; respond promptly to urgent requests requiring physical presence at various locations throughout the region or state; transport necessary materials, documents, and equipment for meetings, presentations, or fieldwork. 

• Supports the review, update, maintenance of transportation-related impact fees. 

• Supports the drafting of submittals for grant funding from various local, state, and federal funding sources.

The Department

GENERAL INFO 

Under general supervision, the Recreation Leader I/II provides essential support to recreation programs and services by performing custodial tasks, event setup and teardown, program support, and minor maintenance duties at various facilities, including parks and community centers. This temporary, parttime position requires working up to 20 hours per week. The role involves ensuring the facilities are clean, safe, and operational while delivering excellent customer service. Performs other duties as assigned.  
 

UNIVERSAL POSITION DUTIES (Illustrative purposes only)

• Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment. 

• Assist in organizing and supervising recreational programs in any one or more of the following areas: children, adults, senior citizens, and participants with special needs at playgrounds, community centers, and other recreational areas. 

• Open, close, and secure facilities, including locking gates and setting alarms. 

• Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment according to event/program requirements. 

• Perform light maintenance and cleaning tasks to ensure facility safety and upkeep. 

• Enforce policies, maintain discipline, and provide customer service to patrons. 

• Monitor and report facility issues and potential hazards. 

• Assist with special events and activities as needed. 

• Respond to and resolve patron inquiries and complaints. 

• Participate in safety training and emergency procedures. 

• Monitor facility rentals and provide customer service as needed. 

• Lift and move, routinely and regularly, up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lifting and/or moving over 60 pounds. Duties also include repetitive pushing; pulling; crawling; climbing; and prolonged periods of standing, lifting above the shoulders, working off a ladder, manual dexterity, and maintaining good vision and hearing.

CAMP COUNSELOR LEAD (Illustrative purposes only) 

• Oversee and guide program staff in their daily duties, ensuring high standards of supervision, engagement, and participant safety. 
• Assist in planning, organizing, and scheduling program activities to create a balanced and enjoyable experience.
• Address behavioral issues and manage group dynamics and foster a positive environment for participants and staff.
• Enforce safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and monitor the physical and emotional well-being of all participants. 
• Serve as a liaison between camp counselors/program staff, families, and City Staff, addressing concerns and maintaining effective communication. 
• Oversee staff tasks, support logistical operations, and ensure adherence to camp policies, health, and safety regulations.
• Model positive behavior, establish rapport with families, and maintain accurate program records. 
• Mediate participant disputes, assist camp counselors/program staff with behavior management, and provide ongoing support and assistance to staff, participants, and volunteers. 
• Communicate program updates and recommend improvements for materials and equipment.
• Ensure familiarity with and readiness for all emergency procedures and other tasks as directed by Supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
 

Education and Experience 
 

• Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
• Two years of customer service or service in the recreation industry experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities 
 

• Facility operations, customer service, basic event/program management, and safety practices.
• Ability to use custodial and operational equipment, communicate effectively, and work independently.

• Ability to obtain a current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

FACILITY ATTENDANT LEAD (Illustrative purposes only)

• Greet patrons, and provide information on programs, rentals, schedules, rules, and policies.
• Organize, inventory, and maintain facility materials and equipment.

• Handle office tasks including mail distribution, shipments, and deliveries.
• Support office inventory management for supplies and equipment.
• Assist facility attendants and recreation programs as needed.
