The Essentials:

Senior Library Assistant

• Two years of experience performing paraprofessional or technical duties in a library setting equivalent to a Library Assistant II or Library Technician in the City of Mountain View.
• Education equivalent to an associate of arts degree.

Bonus Points:

• May need to possess a valid California Class C Driver License as required by the position.
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.
• Bi-lingual skills in Spanish, Chinese or Russian.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Part-Time Librarian I in Adult Services with energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection, assisting community members with their information needs, and expanding the Library's community engagement and outreach activities. The Adult Services Librarian works under the direction of the Supervising Librarian and other management staff in a team-oriented and forward-thinking environment. The position requires a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.

The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Librarian I – Part-Time – Adult Services vacancies at the Sunnyvale Main Library and the Lakewood Branch Library, expected to open in 2026.

What You’ll Do

The Librarian I/II performs a variety of professional librarian duties in the activities of the library including reference, cataloging, interlibrary loans, collection development, programming and outreach for children's or adult services; and other related work as required. The current vacancy may be filled at either level based on experience. Depending upon class level and assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

• Advise and assist library patrons; demonstrate the use of on-line library catalogs, databases and other user aids; refer patrons to other appropriate agencies if appropriate.
• Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services in such areas as children, adult, and others using various themes and technologies; recommend program and procedure changes.
• Perform outreach to the community, community organizations, and schools within established design and framework.
• Serve on materials selection committee for the library; select and deselect materials for assigned area; evaluate and remove materials from the collection.
• Serve at a reference desk; research and respond to difficult or technical reference questions.
• Attend and represent the library at professional meetings as required.
• Supervise and train assigned staff.
• Compile library activity reports and statistics related to assignment.
• Participate in department meetings and continuing education programs as appropriate.
• Respond to citizen complaints and requests.
• Design and implement special ongoing programs, services and events.

DESCRIPTION:

The Department:

The Santa Clara City Library is a department of the City of Santa Clara. The Santa Clara City Library operates three facilities, a virtual branch through a website, and a bookmobile. The Library provides a collection of virtual and physical books and resources, services and programs, public internet access, adult literacy and English as Second Language classes for the Santa Clara community. Services and programs are free and open to all.

The Position:

The Santa Clara City Library is seeking an enthusiastic and community-oriented Librarian with a strong public service commitment at the Mission Branch Library. This Librarian will provide library service, information, and programming for all ages, and may be responsible of the branch in-lieu of more senior staff. Constant contact and collaboration with patrons of all ages, including those with diverse backgrounds and abilities, are part of the daily duties of this position.  

This is a limited-term appointment of 30-40 hours/week for up to 6 months. As an as-needed employee, this is an "at-will" position and there is no guarantee of hours. Hours are limited to 999 in a fiscal year or 960 hours in a fiscal year for retired CalPERS annuitants.

THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City is looking for a dynamic, energetic, team oriented full-time (40-hours per week) Library Services Supervisor to manage, direct and coordinate a work area of the Youth Services and Community Engagement Division.  This individual will also work closely with the Library Division Manager to plan and deliver library programs for youth, coordinate the activities of the Library Makerspace, create the weekly customer service schedule, supervise staff, assist with marketing projects and other duties as assigned. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball, or basketball official. On game days, youth referees will be partnered with experienced officials that will provide training and mentorship. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm.

Official’s shirt, whistle, and training resources are provided. All training is provided by the Silicon Valley Sports Officials Association. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction.

Flag Football and Volleyball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY AUGUST 1

• Training - Mid-August – September
• League games begin the last week of September – second week of November

Basketball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY SEPTEMBER 15

• Training - Mid-September - November
• League Games begin the first week of December – third week of March

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Attendance at all training sessions
• Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of assigned sport program.
